2. If your roommate does something that bothers you then tell him/her because he/she probably doesn't know that it's bothering you. If you let it go on you might just explode.
3. Try to study every day instead of study all at once the night before a midterm/final/whatever.
4. Go to office hours and talk to professors and TAs. Let them know that you care about getting a good grade in the class.
5. Turn off the computer and STAY OFF a few hours every day so that you can study some.
6. Just because your parents aren't there doesn't mean you should eat crap every day and gain 50 pounds.
7. Take naps between classes be it in your bed or on the lawn in front of your classroom.

-don't be afraid to talk to your profs. most of them are around to help, and really want to.
-attend class! don't think that your friends' notes will help you. trust me, once test day comes, you'll be so confused
-don't focus too much on studies. make an effort to go out and befriend people
-don't ever get your priorities mixed up, and even if you do, make sure you motivate yourself to pick yourself back up.
-stay open-minded. i'm not telling you to be all out liberal, but keep an open mind to other peoples' opinions. u'll learn alot!
-be nice & friendly, but don't let people walk all over you. keep your head up.
Sooo true!! I'm still a freshman and yeah I've been doing pertty much all this...cept making friends a bit more on the harder side though cuz I sit with diff ppl every single freakin day lol daannngg.
Yeah, DEFINITELY shouldn't focus too much on studies...unless you have all these freakin exams comming up like what I'm going through right now =___=;;
They're so evil that they pile up on you and sorta, well...force you to study
Making friends (or just get along or even better, GET ON THEIR GOOD SIDE) with the TA's is a huuuuggee benefit. I made friends with a TA for one of my astronomy classes and she's sooo nice to the extreme...to the point where she'd always e-mail me these internships and NASA opportunities and Astronomy researches for undergrads and such...soooo friggin awesome omg.
Going to your Professors and TA's office hours is really realy helpful too...sometimes you may think that you understand something with a bit of a doubt...that one lil doubt may be the one that prevents you from getting a better grade on your quiz or exam. Sooo yeah, go visit 'em and bug 'em (okaaayy, maybe not bug 'em..) with a bajillion amount of questions and like 99% of the time, they're always more than willing to help you. They're not allowed to get impatient on you anyway pwahahahha:D...annnndd sometimes, when you get onto a TA's really good side, they'd *maybe* give you hints on what might or will be on your next quiz or exam (no joke here!) but yeah....don't take that as an advantage =____=;;
NO SKIPPING CLASS!! *nods crazily*
No matter how boring some lectures may become, I'm pretty sure you'd rather go and not fail than vise-versa

Its okay to be afraid or nervous of speaking in public. It isn't so bad. Just practice a lot with a small audience such as your friends and family members. If you can't handle with public speaking, you can take a communication apprehension (sp?) class. I am sure your university offers it. So far, I haven't done a lot of public speaking unless you are in small classes such as in english, speech, or history. I am sure that in big lecture halls, there will be no public speaking unless you are asking a question.
I really hope that helps.

Hahahaha...well bullies isn't a prob at my Uni...but I guess it's prob cuz there are always lotsa people around so maybe that's why?
But really, if you were to walk with a group of people then you should be fine. Even walking by yourself should be fine too...don't worry too much about it.

Hahahah~! Thanks...
I unno. I just checked my assessment and I just realized I had 2 subjects this year that has public speaking as one part. One's worth 15%, the other subject is worth 10%. Hahahah. I'm so screwed.
Either I overcome this stupid fear of mine, or die. >.< Communication apprehension class. Okay. I'll go check. ^^,
As for the bullies part,
I don't think there'll be bullies in Uni. Because people in Uni worked their asses off to enter uni. Unless you're staying outside campus and there are bullies lurking near your block.
One thing: Make sure you don't walk alone. Freshies are easily taunted when they're alone. And make lotsa friends!

other than in the actual public speakin class, will there be a lot of instances where you're required to speak in front of the class or give a speech or whatnot?
or is it mostly just the professor standing up there lecturing, like in high school.

yeap it'll just be like any other lectures and maybe some discussion time in the arts classes (sociology, psychology, etc...)
another advice... don't mess around first year, the last thing you would want is a bad GPA
the better path to take is to get a high GPA and start to party steady the rest of the yearss LOL u'll still get fun, just not in bulk... you're really there for school neways!

^ yep presentations happens everyweek or everyday in a public speaking class. I'm am currently taking public speaking and I've learned to overcome my fears speaking publically. After spring break, we will act for 20 minutes in front of the whole class (that class is like a theatre, very big) dramatizing the play "A Raisin in the Sun". I think It's going to be fun working with different people coming from different ethnic background.

1. I don't have a laptop because I have a computer at home. I write my notes quickly and efficiently without a laptop. But, if you're a slow writer and unable to write quickly, then I'll recommend using a laptop. Professors breeze the lectures quickly, and it's quite in handy to have a laptop. But, I wouldn't recommend getting one since -__-; in my personal case, I wouldn't be able to concentrate in class & I'll be surfing through the web like crazy.
2. It's not harder. It really depends on the professor that you're taking it with though. In case with my college over at UCF, the honors' class is smaller & you are able to connect with the professors easily. My friends are in honors and they don't think it's such a big deal. It's the same thing, except for smaller amount of students. How do they work? Nothing really... They work just like any ordinary class you take. It's not like high school weighted gpa. =3 Everything goes by credits.

First semester has already passed- you should have learned from mistakes (if you made any) or if you were successful the first semester, you should know what you need to do to build upon that
You can only learn from yourself, not others..

I'm aiming for either newspaper or magazines (ie. seventeen, cover girl etc.) first.
