After 6 months (ever since my first period on mid-July), I have finally gotten my period. Yay.

Anyways, the question that I wanted to ask you guys (girls actually) if getting cramps, PMS during missed periods is normal? Because near that time, I usually get bad cramps, feel nauseous (a little bit), dizzy, weak, grumpy, and I even black-outed (seriously, I opened my eyes and everything was dark and blurry) once for about 10 minutes since I felt very uncomfortable and my stomach hurt badly.

So yeah, I was wondering if getting symptoms are normal on missed periods.

^ Those symptoms seem a little intense. You should see a doctor.

i deal with the blacking out thing all the time. its nothing serious. i asked my doctor and she said its just cuz i dont get enough oxygen and blood flow to my brain when i stand up or get up after lying down or something. she told me to drink more water? lol.

so, I've been tutoring this girl that is my mom's friend's daughter. we've known each other for quite sometime and I help her with studying her SATs a lot the past months since I am not working. I guess she thinks I was trust worthy enough to tell me. she told me that around the lips of her vagina, it itches? and it hurts when she pees. at first, I thought it was a bladder infection if not, my second guess would be yeast infection. I told her to go to her doctors, and she says she doesnt really wanna tell her mom because she has a boyfriend and her mom would automatically assume its her bfs fault.

so I drove her to the doctor and they confirmed that she has a bladder infection and prescribed her some antibiotics. the following week, I went to her house and ask her how she feels during our session, and she says it still itches and also hurts when she pees. I thought the antibiotics doesn't work so I took her to the doctor again. I dont know what she said in there with her doctor, but apparently, the doctor prescribed her yeast infection med. but it doesnt seem to work.

my only suggestion now for her is to go to a gyno and check things out. because obviously, her doctor just prescribes whatever she tells her whats wrong.(ie: yeast infection med). that annoys the *^&*^ outta me consider I am a health science major. I don't think her and her bf had sex, probably just messing around(touching, etc).

my question is, is there a way that I can convince her to go to a gyno? I mean, I told her not to be scared and if shes not comfortable with a male doctor, we'll find a female doctor for her. she has this mind set that they will stick something in her and she will lose her virginity or something and her parents are gonna find out. Im not going to guarantee that the doctor will not suggest tests like pap smear, but ehh..I dont know what else to say to her..but she obviously needs to see one.

P.S: she's 15, i think almost 16...o_O..

^ I don't think you can really do anything about it unless she's willing to go herself. You were nice enough to take her to the doctor two times already and you're only her tutor. If something serious is happening then she could ask her mom to take her to a gyno even if she's worried about her mom thinking her boyfriend and her did something.

I'm really interested in getting the patch, but I can't go to my family doctor to prescribe it for me in fear of my parents knowing that I'm sexually active. Where else would I go to in order to get it prescribed? Planned Parenthood? Would they have to ask me if I have insurance or something? What if I just pay it in full? =\ Not that I find condoms annoying, its just that I don't have one (nor my bf) at the right time. Suckkkkks. sad.gif

your best bet is planned parenthood. i just made an appointment to get birth control pills and the consultation with the doctor is $55 and its $25 a month for pills. I'm not sure how much the patch would cost tho.

Do you have to pay up front or how does it work? I just made an account and put in a request for an appointment and I'm going to find the place tomorrow to see how far it is..

I would take the pill, but I tend to forget to take my own medicine (I'm sick right now sad.gif) so I figure that the patch would be more effective. Also, do I have to come every month in order to refill my birth control? I'm totally new at this, but I've been thinking about getting the patch for some time, and I'd finally be relieved to figure out when my period is going to come! I don't keep track as to when I get my period so I'm all over the place about this. sad.gif

i'm not sure if this is found to be true, but didn't some women died because of blood clot from the patch? i once watched it on the news saying how the patch causes blood clots which leads to death. is this true?

^ This is true. I personally wouldn't recommend the patch, but I've never used actually used it. I had a roommate who had been using it for about a year, and she didn't have any issues with it. At Planned Parenthood (or any gyno), you have to make an appointment for a pap smear and a birth control consult. (You won't need a pap smear if you've gotten one recently.) At the consult, the gyno will give you a recommendation for a birth control, and then you will come to an agreement about the best birth control brand for you. She'll give you a prescription for 12 months worth of birth control. You can buy however many you want (up to 12) within the year, but keep in mind that the clinic may not have many in stock. Some brands are more popular than others. They will ask you for insurance which you are welcome to use, or you can say you don't and pay in cash instead.

Aw, too bad I live in Seattle. sad.gif Thanks for the help though!

After hearing about the whole blood clot thing, I'm a little bit skeptical. I would take the pill, if I remembered to take it, but I have really bad memory and I know I'll forget. dry.gif With the patch, at least I know that I'll have to change it once a week, which shouldn't be too bad.

The patch and the birth control pill increase the chances of getting blood clots but it is one of the more rare side effects. If you start taking one of these contraceptive methods and start to feel localized pain (it seems the most common area is the legs) , then talk to your doctor.

^i believe with the patch, you can get blood clots even easier than the pill.
it was in the newspaper a few days ago...i THINK that women who have been using the patch have been experiencing this more often, versus women who are on the pill. i think this only because the ortho evra patch has been in and out of the news lately, but ive never heard much on people who are on birth control pills.

obviously its best to ask an actual doctor.

anyway the patch is once a week, but there is also the contraceptive shot where its once every 2 months... for those who are forgetful

like i mentioned early my appointment is on friday but i'm thinking about getting the kind where you only get your period like 4 times a year. is that safe? anyone here know anything about that. getting your period every month is a pain. 4 times a year sounds pretty good to me but i'm worried about the side effect.

i KNOW!! this is asked before.
Where can i get birth control pill when i'm under 18? because i'm 17.
And how much do they usually cost?
What are the different kinds of birth control pill?
Also, at that planned parenthood, do you need to be 18 or older to go there for pap smear and pills?
can you please PM me about it? because i will forget to check back on this. also, this is pretty important before something serious happens.

Pill. It's called Seasonale or Seasonique depending where you're from. You take active pills for three months before a break instead of three weeks.
