uhm, I have a question. o_o;

Is it okay to shower oftenly when you have your period? I mean, my mom told me that it's not good if you shower too much when you have your period. But I just can't handle it. It smells horrible... even if I change my pad. Plus, I shower almost everyday, so. Do you think that I should shower less more often or shower more than often?

My mum says you can't wash your hair frequently when on the period. That's if you tilt you her downwards or something (looking down). The blood would rush to your head or something. ( doesn't make sense, i know) She could be talking about something else. I forgot. But I'm pretty sure its about rags. lols <3

For girls on birth control pills-

What age did you start?
Where did you go (local clinic, planned parenthood, etc)?
Do your parents know?
Are you sexually active?
Did you get any side effects?
How much does it cost?

I want to start on them pretty soon but I only have access to planned parenthood. I'm esp wondering about the costs (w/o health insurance) and brands. If there were already threads or posts on this, a link would be really helpful. Thanks smile.gif

I started when I was 18 years old. I went to the Planned Parenthood in my city and my parents does not know. Even if they did, I doubt they would care since we're not entirely close. I am sexually active since I have a lovely boyfriend. I have not had any side effects from the pills that I'm on yet and it didn't cost a thing.

I believe that with Planned Parenthood if you make less than $1000 a month, you are eligible for free birth control pills. But you should probably check out their website for more information.

Did she provide a reason ? I don't see how showering could be bad..blink.gif

She told me that I can't shower oftenly when I have my period because, well, when you shower when you have your period, you'd obviously wash your place because of the smell. But after you come out from the water, you have to dry off the water in your place. And most of us won't clean the water off with a towel because the blood would obviously stain on the towel. So you'll just come out without drying if off, and what happens is that you get inflammations. You get inflammations because you don't dry off the water in your place. That's why showering is not good when you have your period on. So my mom told me to shower when my blood decreases down. Some people purposely don't shower or take a bath until their period ends because of inflammations.

So basically, you'll just have to keep on changing your pad about 2/3 times a day or more. You'll just have to tolerate with the smell for a little bit. crazy.gif

When you're on your period, it would actually be healthier to shower down there more to wash away the blood and to get rid of bacteria and stuff.
My mom wants me to shower 3 times a day when I'm on my period...>_>

lol...I just use toilet paper to dry that area

My mom says if you wash your hair when you're on your period, you'll get really bad/dark eye bags that don't go away haha but it's not true at all. I do get eye bags sometimes but not because of showering laugh.gif it's because I have trouble sleeping comfortably when I'm on my period so I never sleep the night through

True. I can't get a good sleep at nights when I have my period. :/ I wake up about one or two times to go to the bathroom to check if it leaked or not. And if I look at the time, it's only 12 P.M. or 6 A.M. in the midnight and I can't sleep back. T_T It sucks, really. When it leaks, I just throw my underwear in the laundries and crawl back to bed to sleep, LOL. My mom always complains about that it's hard to get off the blood in my underwear when she does laundries, so when I when I wake up early I'd do laundries myself. I get really tired the next morning... I told my mom that I can't sleep at nights, and she told me not to worry about it so much and try to put my mind down for while. I tried not to worry so much about the leakages, but it doesn't work as easy as it sounds. It's been already like 2 years since I've had my period and I still don't know how to use the pad properly, Can't you BELIEVE it? -0-;

Plus, I use night pads for both day and night because it leaks through my pants (nearly) all the time. So I don't wear any light colored pants. I don't really wear skirts, whether I'm on period or not, but I don't think I'd want to wear skirts when I'm on my period. I heard your skirt sticks on your pad alot...? Plus what if your blood leaks down your legs... o_o;

^try tampons! they are so much better. no leak, no mess. the only hard part i guess is getting used to it.

but if not, i would try tighter panties or really tight shorts to help the pad stay in one place!

Er, help here?

I've been having my period for like almost two weeks now. tears.gif I don't get it at all.

At first it was just some blood, then none, then some again. And then when I thought it was gone, it came again. That was on the 18th. My period started around the 15th.

I still bleed and it bothers me. The longest I've had my period was around 7 days, and on the last three days the flow was really light.

Has this happened to anyone before?

It sounds like your panties are loose so the pad shifts around a lot. I've had that happen too =/ What I do is I wear control briefs (looks something like this: http://www.bellaforma.com.au/shop/product_...mp;imageid=1117). I don't really like the control part so I usually fold it down. But the good thing about control briefs is that the entire thing is pretty stiff so it doesn't shift when I'm walking or sleeping. Alternatively, you could wear tighter pants to sleep (ie: bicycle shorts?)

Is this the first time it's happened? Are you under stress/dieting/eating differently? If yes, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I've had this happen once before. It was when I first moved away to university (1st year). It wasn't exactly a period...there was a bit of blood (similar to maybe the very last days of a period) but there wasn't enough blood to be wearing anything thicker than a light day pad. It lasted for about 2 weeks for me and then my cycle returned to normal.

If you haven't changed your habits/if it's happened before/if it lasts any longer, I would suggest you see your doctor about it. Also, are you sexually active? You might want to see your doctor if you are, just to be safe.

Those actually look pretty helpful! I do wear tight panties, but that still doesn't help from the leaking. ._. I think it's just the pad I'm using. I use a Kotex brand Free Soft and Always. It says that it holds heavy blood, but it doesn't really work. -0-; Pretty cheap pads. I buy them because they're cheap, LOL. They're about $17-24 in US dollars. I wear a baggy, black pants when I sleep. It's hard for it to leak because it's very baggy. XD Plus, even if it leaks, it doesn't show because it's black. But a problem happens when it dries...

My hair gets oily after 2 days, and yeah, you do feel dirty. :x I think it's because of the shampoo I use. It sucks. oh, there's quite alot of people here with the username 'kisstherain' actually. But I chose this username because I like the song. <3

yeah that used to happen to me too because i wore panties that weren't fit enough and the type of pad i was wearing didn't hold my leak when i was on heavy. so when you're on heavy you should wear the Always Overnight with Flexi wings. It really help.

beside.. when it leak it's so hard to wash off the blood. grrr

Not really. Sexually active, yes.

The flow was steady on the first few days, then heavy, then now it's a moderate flow, where I still need pads. ;__;

... I'm confused. I see you guys posting about periods, and see that you complain about having to change your pad two to three times a DAY. And complaining about smell.

Well, you're supposed to change it every two to four hours (because bacteria can form and make you smell). It says so on the packaging.

Why don't you guys change often? That's the problem. That's why you leak everywhere! It's not obvious? ...

You should be changing at least six or so times a day, and you should get up one or two times at night to change so you won't leak while you sleep.

You guys don't think that sitting in the same pad for over four hours is gross?

Do you girls ever experience just one of your breasts getting enlarged and looking swollen during or before your period?
My left breast is noticeably fuller than my right and it's also hard. I've never experienced this before and I'm a bit freaked out.
I'm guessing it's because I'm about to start my period, but my period is irregular most of the time so I don't keep
track of it. I usually know I'm about to start my cycle because I'll start bleeding a little bit a few days before, but so far
I haven't been bleeding at all. So my question is, is it normal for one of your breasts to be fuller and hard? It can't be anything serious right?

I was thinking the same thing actually. XD I can't stand wearing a pad for more than two or three hours, not including sleep time (obviously) or when for some reason I really don't have access to a bathroom for a very long time.

Need some.. advice
I usually have VERY regular periods.. like 28-29 days like i can estimate the hour it'll come..
my last period was March 22nd and for some reason ive skipped this month..
i had some like.. "brownish" discharge for about 2-3 days during the time that i should have had my period in april.. and thought that my period would come but it didnt..
Ive traveled ALOT this last month.. [like.. in one week i was on about 6 plane rides] back and forth from the states to Korea...
and its finals month.. so i guess my sleeping schedule is really off along with my meal schedule...
are those reasons that could delay my period or.. make me "skip" a month? i mean ive had my period for like 6 years.. and this kind of thing doesnt really happen to me.. so im kind of worried that im like sick.. or something..

in terms of sexual activity.. my boyfriend and I are in a long distance relaitnship. we dont have sex [although we do "fool around" :/ but never like. unclothed] .. and i havent seen him since.. december/jan... so im guessing pregnancy is out of the question since ive had like 3 periods regularly since ive last seen him.

dno.. what could be the cause of my skipped period... and question.. if i did "skip" this month.. will my period come like.. when its "supposed" to come next month? [e.g. like.. 8 weeks from March 22nd - when i had my last period?]
sorry for all these questions.. im just kind of freaking out wondering what could be the... problem.. and i know i shouldnt even think about this but even thinking about pregnancy which i KNOW is impossible.. but just scary to think about...

bleh.
thanks in advance.
