All of the music on my laptop is taking a lot of space on my hard drive so I tried to use Windows Media Player to burn music onto blank CDs. Basically I've tried a whole bunch of different brands of blank CDs and none of them worked (meaning it would always say that it never recognized any of them). So, what I've decided to do is buy an external CD burner. Does anybody have any recommendations for a good CD burner?

if you want only a CD burner then get this Liteon for about $37. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16827131411
If you want a DVD burner that also does CDs, then this Liteon looks good for the money at $79. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16827106011
or get this Plextor for $99. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16827131362

Thanks so much for the recommendations! I was looking into something that did DVDs too.
Anybody else?

what laptop are you using? if you have firewire connections, it is pretty advisable to get yourself a firewire burner instead instead of a USB one as you will most probably get better burns and less lag time if your laptop is slower.
Point no 2, IMHO it'll be better for you to get an internal dvd writer along with a external 5.25" case, allows the versatility for you to switch when either the drive or the case conks out, and one day when you realise that you do not really need the dvd writer anymore, you may want to replace the internals of the case with a hard drive instead.
Another consideration that you can have is to get an external 2.5" hard disk. External DVD burners will require you to have an additional power plug and it's BIGG, the hard drive will not require an external power plug as long as your laptop is relatively new (end 04 and up) and a 80GB hard drive with a case will cost you about 90bucks thereabouts.
hope this helps.

Another options is to replace your laptop cd-burner with a slimline dvd-burner. The slimline dvd-burner for laptop are around 60 to 90 dollars. But it depends whether you laptop's cd-drive can be replaced or not. Tell us the make and model of your laptop. Alot of Dell laptop cd-rom is replaceable. Sometimes the only problem is the face plate.
There are also slimline external dvd-burner. Those tend to be a bit more expensive, but smaller.

^ I have an old IBM thinkpad... which they don't make anymore apparently lol. It was from 8th grade ahaha. Anyways, my solution... ended up buying a 2 GB memory stick, then I'd move files from my laptop to my mom's newer laptop (which had CD and DVD drives) then burned CDs off of there. Takes longer... but whatever.
THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR INPUT.
I wish I knew as much about computers and technology as you do!

NEC burner ($37) is rated highly among buyers, so you may want to look there.
