Do I/Should I send my 1st semester senior year grades to USC?
even if they haven't asked for it?

lol it's cause i have pretty good grades this year, so maybe if i send it,it might help me. ><

They actually do ask for them.. haha.
There should be a link in the application status check website for your mid-year grades.

I was wondering what kind of stuff I should write about in my college essay.
So far my counsler told me to write about extra curricular activities, and why you want to go there.
What else do I need to write about?
Thank youuuuuuu (:

For Common Application, what exactly is the student counselor recommendation form (didn't find one on the common app site)? Is it the first secondary report that we send in? Or is the cumulative midyear and secondary school report? Because I know on those forms, there are counselor evaluations of the student.

Please help me. I'm freaking out and apparently those colleges won't even consider my application until everything has been sent in.

I'm SO freaking confused about the whole financial aid business.

I was staring at the CSS profile website going HUH for like an hour sleep.gif;;

My parents JUST got their 2007 tax thingys so I was going to update it on the CSS profile but then it's all confusing.. if we want to update and resend it to colleges (are we even supposed to do that?) then do we have to pay the fee all over again? wtheck!! I'm so freakin confused. >_<

A lot of schools just ask the general question..
1. the most challenging obstacle you had and life, and how you went to overcome it
2. who you are

Basically write something that will prove that you are a good candidate to join the school, or that you bring diversity...
say something about yourself that will prove to them that you are someone they don't want to pass up on.

you should call TEMPLE and ask them where to go... they won't be like this person isn't reading everything we sent to him/her.. etc. just call... before it's too late. i am sure they will help you figure it out.

You MIGHT get accepted and you MIGHT NOT.
you're just applying for it. I am sure the letter you got was just a generic one that was automatically
sent to everyone with a high GPA or something of the like.

Keep in mind, you are competing with a lot of people on the same stage as you are.

you ARE suppose to UPDATE and send it to the school...
if you don't then.. you won't get your FAFSA (unless you have the funds to pay for tuition)
if you are confused, talk to your advisor/guidance counselor..
it's pretty self-explanatory. I didn't get any help from my older siblings and worked my way through it.
if you have any questions that your guidance counselor cannot answer, you and her can call up the school to check up on it
also.... Public Libraries (if you live in a large city) should have workshops that helps students fill that stuff out.

MY BIGGEST ADVICE:
if you are unsure of ANYTHING, just call the school(s).

Thanks, but I was asking about CSS Profile, I got FAFSA down but CSS Profile is confusing.

I already turned in both FAFSA & CSS Profile because of deadlines, but I'm wondering on how to update my CSS Profile without paying for everything all over again.

This was pulled directly from the CSS FAQ section:

QUOTE
Q: How can I make changes or corrections to my application once I have submitted it?

A: Once you have submitted your application, you cannot change any of the data you have provided for the colleges and programs you selected. If you need to change any information, print out a copy of your online PROFILE Acknowledgment that includes all the information provided on your PROFILE Application and use the printed, paper version of the Acknowledgment to make corrections. Then mail copies directly to the colleges and programs to which you are applying. Be sure to keep a copy for your records.

To print your Acknowledgment, go to the PROFILE Home Page, click on "Check Status of Application," then click on "Acknowledgment."

If you send your PROFILE information to additional colleges and programs through the 'Add Colleges to Submitted Application' process you will have the opportunity to update your application responses. Your updated data will only be reported to the added colleges or programs.

Hope that helped.

cos during the process of taking the ACT, they ask you what college to send the scores to, so does that mean, the college will get it?
and btw, i don't know who to give out letter of recommendations too?
i don't really think my teachers from High School cos i took a year out after graduating =.= (long story)
i was thinking my Manager at work, but thats just one, the college I'm applying requires 3...
any suggestions?

thanks!

I don't know if this belongs here but I don't want to make a new topic x_x

I'm filling out my FAFSA now and am I supposed to fill out the information about my parents? It's optional so ...should I? o_o
And I don't understand the tax thingy >.< It asks if I completed my IRS tax form for 2007. Am I supposed to answer not going to file? x_x I don't have a job or anything sooooo?? x_x And it also asks like..what income tax return did I file or will I file for 2007. And I honesty don't know x_x. Am I suppose to say the same file as my parents?

I'm sorry I'm just soooo lost x_x

^ I have a job, but I earned so little I don't need to file anything. You put don't need to file/not going to file for those.
And for your parents' info, you really should put it, the more info they know, the better they can help you.

How hard are the SATs???
Would taking those SAT courses help you do better in the SAT??
And what's ACT?? who would need to take it?

Hey you guys! Don't know if this is the right place to ask...
Do you think any uni will accept a GPA of around 2.5 to 3?
I'm studying in a polytechnic so the GPA system is kind of different from highschool as our GPA is based solely on the grades of our curricular modules. No other ways to raise it except to get better grades after each semester. I'm pursuing a diploma in optometry now.. but I ain't that interested in it so I was hoping to major in Korean Studies using this dip.. Wondering if my chances are good with such a LOW GPA..

Also, is it better to pursue Korean studies in Korea itself or other countries?

I hope this is a right place to ask this.
But how many recommendations do colleges required?
Because I just found out that you can only get it from one teacher in my school and then my friend said something about colleges requiring 2?
*confused*

And I'm clueless about the recommendation process.
Is it something you end in along with your college application?

Uhh this is kind of a weird question, I think.

So on my passport (my legal name) is my Chinese name. But at school, I use my English name as my first name (which is not on my passport) and my Chinese as my middle name.
So on my diploma, it would say my English name, my middle name (Chinese name), and my last name.
On the applications, should I be writing my English name, Chinese name, and last name? Or just my Chinese name as on my passport?
Ughhhhh...I'm so angry that my dad didn't add my English name onto my passport, and now he says he can't cuz that'll totally screw up the information on my green card and social security. -_______________-"

alicimoo: I think you have to put your Chinese name. It seems like your English name isn't "official" since passports and social security stuff are official government thingers. So on your applications you should put your Chinese name.

heartmonster: Not all colleges require recommendations. Usually only private schools do. All the private schools I applied to required one from a teacher and one from a counselor. Check out your school websites to see what requirements they have or email the schools. And yes it is something you send in with your application, although it's in a separate envelope because usually whomever writes the recommendation will send it in for you. But they should arrive at the college at around the same time.

moodycaddy: The SAT isn't that hard. It's stuff you've already learned usually by sophomore or junior year, that's why people say it's best to take it at the end of junior year. Not all SAT courses help you do better, a lot of it you can learn from just using SAT review books. ACT is like the SAT, except it also includes science instead of just math, critical reading, and writing. The way they test is also different. Anyone can take either of them and some people take both, it's just that the SAT is more popular and more accepted, although colleges are accepting ACT more now too. I think SAT tests your ability to do well and ACT tests what you've already learned (not sure). But some people do better on one than the other. SAT is also out of 2400 whereas ACT is out of 32.

mayz: There are schools which accept 2.5-3.0. Like state schools do, you just have to score higher on SAT. You should also make it up with other things like extracurricular activities. I would think that it is best to study in Korea; but it might be a little weird. So I would study in your home country, but study abroad in Korea for a year or so or get a master's there. Not really sure.

And I don't want to be called by my Chinese name. xD

Maybe I should ask my guidance counselor about this..=/
