I am doing ED to Cornell University too. I am trying to improve my essays and just do the best I can. When is everyone sending in their apps?
I know that at my school about 30 people apply to Cornell under ED. I am really worried because my school is really competitive (it is an exam school and one of the specialized high schools in New York, ranked 20 in the nation >.>) Oyyy! Lets hope all of us Soompiers get in ^^;;
I saw in an earlier post that Cornell looks at each applicant separately, but from other colleges that have talked to the students in my school, they compare you to those in your school/ around your area.

And to everyone else who was confused about the activities in the Common App (lalalaaa, I believe?), I talked to my school counselor today (he's read applications for schools like Brown), and he said it would be best to use the limited space given in the online application itself, UNLESS your extracurricular record is STELLAR (and when he says stellar, he means CRAZILY FANTASTIC), because admissions officers would really rather read less - and still get the gist of it - than more, considering the number of applications they have to go through and all.

OH, EXCEPT THE ACTIVITIES THING. So are you guys planning to attach anything or write stuff in the Additional Info box? This is driving me crazy.
I need to START writing my personal essay! and then finish up my supplement essays
Wondering if I will make it in time...
And OKay...scratch the 200 applying to Cornell thing...people gave me the wrong info, but it still feels like 200 are applying. @_@

I think only using the limited space they provide would be impossible. Yes they do give you 150 words to talk about what? ONE activity? How much can you fit there? Seriously, they don't even let you put down the NAME of the activity you do. So...I think I might need to attach something. Now that you remind me that the admissions officers don't like to read a lot, I'll remember to maybe cut down on what I say about the activities.
I feel like I'm over analyzing too much.

I think I remember reading on the UC app instructions that I should add that class under my 2nd semester JR YEAR list of courses.
Am I remembering correctly?

I'm actually kind of glad that I should use only the limited space available for the activities. Yeah, I'm a little lazy....haha...

Question...someone please help me?
I'm submitting one of my applications tonight.
It's Common App & I'm trying to attach the essay.
IS IT SUPPOSED TO BE DOUBLE SPACED?
I went on a bunch of college sites & half the people said double, the other half said single.
And some others said 1.5 spaced.

I feel like I'm over analyzing too much.
You're supposed to name the activity first in that space, followed by what you do/did briefly. I guess the thing is that unless you've participated in an extremely rare extracurricular activity, they'll know what it is and probably what participating entails without needing you to provide too much detail, especially since admissions officers specialize in reading applications from a particular area. The counselor and teacher references are also supposed to reflect extracurricular activity, and I've always suspected they take that more into account than anything you say about your activities. But by all means go ahead if you really feel you can't express what you've done enough in the space they've given, I can see why you have your qualms about it.

I know! No one in my school is applying ED there (they're ED-ing to schools like Yale and Stanford, so yay) as far as I know, but the regular d acceptance rate for my school is about 59%, so here's hoping for ED! Yeah, I immediately thought "Oh thank goodness" to myself when I heard him say that. I'm up to my ears studying for the A-levels as it is! All the best to all of us
