I have a random question, but I want some opinions. On the College Board site, I never realized that when I registered, I forgot to put a hyphen in between the two parts of my first name. Unfortunately, my legal name has the hyphen in it. My SAT scores have already been sent, so I was wondering if that lack of hyphen would present a problem with my college applications and profiles?

my counselor at school.. highly encourages us and pushes us to use the commonapp. but she doesn't even know about the "school forms" /invite section. so whenever i ask her a question about it, shes totally clueless as to what i'm talking about >,>;; and she gets angry and i get frustrated bcause i'm trying to tell her what it is and shes just not getting it.

talk about complications.

anyways, what recommendation letters are the best ? i've been told core curriculum teachers, but then my aunt says it doesn't matter who you get it from, it matters how good they write ? which is it ?

depends on what you're aiming for. If you're applying to an art school, then get your art teachers to do it; and if you're trying to be an engineer, then math/sci teachers. but no matter what, make sure you have a good relationship with your teachers that you do request it from. Some teachers are honest enough to tell you that they won't write one for you, but some aren't and will write nasty stuff about you and get you rejected.

and usually colleges won't accept letter from p.e. teachers b/c p.e. isn't a core curriculum, but if your teacher is your coach, then it's fine.

Just think about how a college admissions person would look at it. If they're getting a letter from your teacher saying how you're a genius at biology and will invent the cure for cancer, but then they see you're trying to apply for an English major, it's kinda irrelevant...

Help! I want to apply to UBC Commerce and Arts faculty....

I just filled out the application online and I'm stuck on this part.. I don't get what it's asking me for. What kind of "extra details" are they asking for? Could i just leave it blank?

"Application Comments
If you would like to add any extra detail about the application you are about to submit, please do so in the space below (maximum 100 words)."

ALSO.. do universities look at only TERM 1 MARKS? Or TERM 1 and HALF OF TERM 2?

Thanks in advance sweatingbullets.gif

well when you tell collegeboard.com to send your scores, they send ALL of your scores, not just December Test that you took

so if they're gonna check anyway, might as well put November one in before u get busted sad.gif

PE, Health, and computer graphing (I took computer applications) doesn't go into your UC because they're not UC approved, at least my computer applications wasn't. But check with your Computer graphing class and ask ur teacher if it is a UC approved class. For my school, computer Applications wasn't UC approved, but Computer

hm, then wouldn't nonuc approved courses go under the
coursework OTHER THAN a-g section?

For the UC app, where do we put classes we took at a CC? For some reason the "College Level" option isn't showing up in the Honors Level dropdown for me, so I don't know where to put it. Maybe it's just my school that makes it like that? Not sure.
Here's a screencap......click
Help please?

Hi, this is what you do. I had the same problem too, but unfortunately, I can't give you caps since I just turned in my application.

In the section where you add the schools you attended (i.e .your high school), you must put in the college you took the class at. This includes the amount of years, the # of grades you got (i.e if its a summer class, its likely 1 grade). Then, once you add the classes you take at the picture you posted, you can put in your class plus CL.

Hope that made sense,.

AHHH thanks so much! That fixed my problem perfectly.

Also, another question....did you guys put anything specific for descriptions of awards? I'm kind of just making stuff up here for now, lol. I looked on my school's website for some info...but is there anything specific the UC people will look for? Something short and to the point, or maybe a detailed description? (well, as detailed as it can get with 160 characters..) I think I'm worrying over the little things but it doesn't hurt to ask right? >_o

For SAT scores, you send them into your college about 2 weeks before the application is due. I'm not sure about the other stuff, because I'm not applying to UCs.

if i'm taking a december SAT II, does anyone know if i send the temporary SAT scores now and send them again after the scores come out in december? or should I just mark the december recipients and so that they can directly get sent after the scores come out? how about my ACT...if i'm taking it in december, do i mark the recipients for december test and then send the temporary scores that i have right now? sorry, it might sound a bit confusing

edit: this is for the uc schools btw

you know for UCs how they only give you a 1000 word limit for your personal statements? and you know how the end of your personal statement, they give you a chance to talk about your grades or SAT scores if you did bad or whatever? so does the 1000 word limit ONLY go towards the two prompts and the last part you can write as much or does the 1000 limit go for all 3 essays?

um for the UC and cal state apps, there's this part that asks for your CA SSID number.
what if i put my school ID number instead of the 10 digit number they want?
should i call them to let them know? or does it not really matter?

it has to be your student ID...your school should have supplied it to you

Actually, it's not the same as your school ID number. I thought also thought it was, but I asked an adviser and she said it's alright to leave it blank because CA doesn't even give this out to the students.. I left mine blank (I already submitted my app).
