WANG LEEHOM <3- My favorite C-pop artist Homeboy
Jay Chou - First introduction to cpop, very talented young man. Sometimes his music can get a bit repetitive but always good to listen to.
Elva Hsiao - Lovely voice, I always feel surprised by her music.
Deserts Chang - Nice acoustic beats her music is very relaxing to listen to,
Ken Zhu - Nice to fall asleep to..
Fish Leong - Beautiful, powerful voice, I love her.
Cyndi Wang - I like her music beats and and of course, her voice.

蘇打錄 (sodagreen) - LOVE THEM. they are simply amazing~~ favorite song is 小情歌, but all their songs are wonderful. honestly, i think they are the only mainstream taiwanese band worth listening to.. (besides mayday)
盧廣仲 (crowd lu) - his songs are pretty good (i got to see him perform live and it was great!)

although i love the singers coming out from a million stars (yoga lin, aska yang, jam hsiao), their debut albums weren't that satisfying to me. =\ just my opinion though. i know plenty of people who love yoga lin's first album.

Thank goodness you mentioned my favorites; Mayday, Shin, and JJ Lin~~ Hmm.. I think 吴克群(Wu Ke Qun) and 李圣杰(Li Sheng Jie) deserves to be up there too.
I'm the kind of Soompi-er that lurks around your thread.

I'm currently addicted to Van Fan...
I love his album. It doesn't put me to sleep and isn't very poppy either.
My fav. tracks: Love Story & 放生

I can't find my old post, but my other favs:
Zhang Li Yin - "I Will" is an awesome album
Gary Cao- "Superwoman" song
David Tao - he's my fav. I haven't listened to him for a while... "Only friends", "Twenty Two", "Spring Wind" (i think that's feat. Tension)
Tension - " My Story" good album
Quincy Tan - 片尾曲 (very emotional)

GEM TANG (17 yr old with potential..def. can sing better than some other singers, composes and writes her own lyrics biggrin.gif)
EVA CHAN (her voice reminds me of Denise Ho, she's actually in the business for awhile now..writing lyrics/composing songs for other artists, but this time she's debuting as a singer smile.gif )

I think the problem with C-Pop is that the talent pool is relatively small compared to K-Pop and definitely J-Pop. Basically, 99% of the C-Pop singers come from HK and Taiwan, a total population of less than 30 million. South Korea itself has much bigger population that that. And C-Pop caters to a disportionately large audience of not only HK and Taiwan but also Mainland China. I think with a larger audience, a lot of the songs will get generic. K-Pop and J-Pop doesn't have that problem. There are so many talented singers in Mainland but due to the restrictive government, it's hard for them to get success out of Mainland. That's just my two cents.

I love JAY CHOU especially his voice!
He's multi-talented and so poetic.
People have said that he mumbles a lot
but I actually like it.
I get goose bumps reading his lyrics,
that's just shows how awesome he is! cool.gif

><'' i definitely disagree with some above mentioned BUT its all subjective so..=)

anyways i've come back with yet another few:
-Landy Wen: seriously I don't know why I didn't try her music until now, she's got such a beautiful voice and all the lovely heart warming (or breaking) hits from the late 90s on.
-BY2: Quality music for teens..they're 16 but very talented. **New group**
-Y2J: I would describe them as JS meet FIR plus a rock feel, normally i wouldn't go for that but their voices actually blend together so well...and the music isnt what typical rock is...i cant describe it but...just not all about the intruments and loudness but it's got a lot of passion. **New group**

I think Claire Guo/Guo Jing and Fan Fan/Fan Wei Qi are really good singers...
I really like their songs such as:
1. Claire Guo : Xia Yi Ge Tian Liang, Wo Bu Xiang Wang Ji Ni, and so on...
Her previous & latest album were great... rolleyes.gif
2. Fan Fan : Hei Bai Pei, Yi Ge Xing De Ju Li, Shi Fei Ti, Na Xie Hua Er, Wo Men Ji Nian Ri, Yi Ge Xiang Xia Tian, Yi Ge Xiang Qiu Tian, and so on...
I really like her the best... Her songs either she composed herself or not were AWESOME... biggrin.gif

Then there're Fish Leung and Elva Hsiao... They're really good singers too... wink.gif

For the males, I still think Lee Hom & Jay Zhou are the BEST one... hehehehe... cool.gif

You went there. =o

But ya, most of the famous ones come from Taiwan. If you consider it to be "Chinese" or not, that's up to you. Chinese music refers to music in Chinese. That's why we consider music from Singapore and Malaysia to be C-Pop as well when they're sung in Chinese.

You really wanna drag politics into this?

And while most of the Supergirl winners/contestants have produced garbage music with equally garbage voices, Jane Zhang is one of the most talented singers I've heard in a very long time.
