A witty, romantic, and very dangerous love story about chance meetings, instant attractions, and casual betrayals. CLOSER is director Mike Nichols' critically acclaimed look at four strangers - Julia Roberts, Jude Law, Natalie Portman and Clive Owen - with one thing in common: each other.

Closer is a 2004 film directed by Mike Nichols and written by Patrick Marber, who wrote the play of the same name upon which the film is based. It stars Julia Roberts, Clive Owen, Natalie Portman, and Jude Law in a story involving infidelity, intimacy and sacrifice. The film features many extracts from Mozart's opera Così fan tutte as incidental music. Also, the music of Irish folk singer Damien Rice is featured in the film, most notably the song, "The Blower's Daughter", whose lyrics drew many parallels with the themes present in the film.

--------------------------------------------------
Natalie Portman and Clive Owen both won Golden Globes and an Oscar nomination for their performance in this movie. I love every bit of it!

It is one of the most realistic movies around and since it was a play, the dialogue is beautiful! biggrin.gif

Jude Law and Julie Roberts's both had dissapointing performances but don't be put off by that. I find that their characters didn't fit much. However, Natalie Portman pulled off her character in style and I fell in love with Clive Owen and his character.

Here's the trailer

Did anyone else see this movie? Apparently it didn't do too well at the boxoffice but critics loved it.

Thanks Carol for the banner. Fleur rocks for making Owen look sexy!

I love this movie, one of my favorites of 2004. I saw it when it first came out and I've seen it several times on TV since then, and it never gets old.

The whole cast is amazing, but Portman and Owen certainly stick out the most~ they definitely deserved the Supporting Oscars for that year, it's a shame they didn't win.

Closer is a very raw and realistic film and that's why I love it.

This is a great film. I enjoyed it a lot. I love the scene where Jude Law pretends to be a woman while he is chatting with Clive Owen in that one sex chatroom. That scene was hilarious. I think I'm gonna go watch it now. tongue.gif

I don't usually enjoy movies where "sex" is the central topic, at a quite glance many may think Closer is about that but it really isnt.

I LOVE the quotes from the movie. Let me go and find them now.

MIGHT BE SPOILERS!!!!!

Dan: Didn't fancy my sandwiches?
Alice: Don't eat fish.
Dan: Why not?
Alice: Fish piss in the sea.
Dan: So do children.
Alice: Don't eat children either.

-----------------------------

Larry: Twenty years ago. How old were you?
Alice: Four.
Larry: Christ. When I was in flares, you were in nappies.
Alice: My nappies were flared.
-----------------------------------------

Dan: I fell in love with her, Alice.
Alice: Oh, as if you had no choice? There's a moment, there's always a moment, "I can do this, I can give into this, or I can resist it", and I don't know when your moment was, but I bet there was one.

(personally this line made me adore natalie portman's character and acting, props to her!)
-----------------------------

Dan: What's so great about the truth? Try lying for a change, it's the currency of the world.
-------------------------------------------

I would quote the ENTIRE movie because I love every bit of it, but I can't

pick out your favourite quote guys!

I think I've watched this movie WAYYY too many times.

Thanks Carol for the banner. Fleur rocks for making Owen look sexy!

closer is actually my favourite english speaking movies or at least it comes in the top 5. ANd the quotes are actually fantastic it's just so witty and british.

There's not alot of films like it which makes me like it a whole lot more. Also I think Natalie Portman was fantastic in it as well as clive owen. They were all fantastic. But like everyone else says they just stood out.

My friend went and saw this in the movies when it came out and she didn't like it. But I watched the DVD and I loved the movie. Clive is so hot, and so is Natalie..the whole cast is attractive.

This movie is so intriguing! I've seen it twice & was fixated both times.

& I love the theme song of this movie: 'The Blower's Daughter' by Damien Rice.

Oh yeah, and Clive Owen is really HOT blush.gif

Ditto. I'll take him over Jude Law anyday! I loved him in this flick.

hmm didn't enjoy this film at all although natalie portman was superb
Alice asked the Cheshire Cat `Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?'
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the Cat.
"I don't much care where--" said Alice.
"Then it doesn't matter which way you go,' said the Cat.

I rented Closer and was watching it with some guy friends. They wanted to leave to go tool shopping at SEARS during the beginning, but when the cybersex scene came on they all just magically wanted to "stay to watch the movie just a little longer" Hahaha those perverts.

But overall, the movie kind of bored me. But it wasn't that bad. The acting was good.
