Hi guys!

I'm just wondering, what makes you motivated in school? or like.. what makes you want to go to university, and graduate?

I'm asking this question out of my curiosity. Somebody asked me this question before, and I was like.. i don't know.. to make my parents happy? or for a foundation of my future career?

So, what actually makes you motivated to go to university, and also to graduate from it?

I'm motivated to go to university because I have to pay for it myself so I don't want to waste my money lol. But that's only a small part of the reason. I'm mostly motivated because I like that there's freedom to do what you want and learn what you want there. I love that there's so much flexibility, get to meet tons of people and experience things and basically have the freedom to be without much responsibility before you enter the work force (yes I'm a nerd lol).

I'm motivated to graduate because I'm excited to be teacher abroad and get to travel and learn tons of languages ^^

Guilt pretty much motivates me to go to school. I don't think I could take the disappointment of my family if I don't succeed. Especially my grandma, she's sooo happy that her grandson is going to be a nurse...I'd die if i let her down!

Knowing that I have a higher education and also the fact that I can get a job I really love and want to do that I couldn't do before.

umm.. this is hard... i would have to say....YOU! haha it's all fun for me. I don't like to stress out too much but I gain motivation very fast, and that's by listening to my parents' constant complaining.

I pay for my school, so money and time push me to do as well as I could in school. Also, some adults think I do better than I actually do and they spray their words to every other adult - it really is annoying and it seems like if I don't do well on something, not only I disappoint my family but the other adults as well (I have no idea why in the world they would care anyways).

I felt like going to college wasn't really an option - it was more of a filial requirement. Now, I feel like I have to graduate because I'm only a semester away.

But what keeps me motivated to go to class and make the grades? Might as well learn something while you're there so it won't be a complete waste of time. If you have a degree, you better be able to show something for it than just a stupid slip of paper.

I get motivated by thinking that I want to meet smarter people in the future and can have some kind of intelligent conversation with instead of some idiotic jokes that somepeople make. lol, well honestly, I think going to college can help enhance you in your future career instead of being a bum in the street.

Mostly filial duty and for myself. Perhaps, a bit of fear?

All of my relatives in Seoul live a rather lavish life(in spite of earning it by all they could muster with determination and strong work ethics) and my parents had the the opportunity to have their share of a better quality of life by remaining in their respective country, but decided to make a gamble with hopes that more opportunities would be presented to them and their soon to be born children across the waters. Instead, they found themselves being dealt a bad hand, and there are times where they feel resentment towards their decision to come to this country. Their degrees from prestigious universities and all they worked towards went down the drain as a result of some major risk taking and delusions of the grand old American dream.

We're more in the middle of the socioeconomical ladder, but my parents have had struggles and are still working their fingers to the bone to allow us to have a higher education and to support other miscellaneous costs of our extracurricular activities. They've basically sacrificed everything including their own personal lives, for the sake of my brother and I, so it motivates me to give everything that I have in order for their sacrifices to be worthwhile.

As for personal reasons, seeing that I'm competitive by nature, I like to be on top of things. Also, in addition to that, with the dwindling state of the economy, I'm determined to at least have career stability. Just one less thing to worry about.

sitting in class with pretty girls, hanging out with friends....and doing late night projects and getting frustrated together, sharing jokes and laughing, knowing you've bonded like no other when the sun comes up, and acing that project when all is said and done.

also, i enjoy learning new things. who doesnt?! some things are so freakin cool!

and finally...knowing i have a better chance at finding a job than not having gone to college at all smile.gif
