i was talking to one of my friends frm school the other day and i asked her what she had been over the summer. unlike me, she has been completely stressing abt colleges and stuff while ive basically been sitting on my bum 24/7. so far, ive:

been studying for my last SAT I and II's in the fall
been visiting the colleges that im most likely to apply to
written my college essay (but im probably gonna change it or js write another one)

are we supposed to be looking for or applying for scholarships/financial aid yet? is anyone filling out college applications alrdy? i feel so out of it because i have no idea where im supposed to be right now and my mom was like freaking out on me so i was js wondering what ur current status is concerning ur college plans.. sweatingbullets.gif

i also have no idea what college i really want to go to because i have no idea what i wanna major in or what i wanna have as a career, and evrybody i know has this clear path of what they want to do.. blah.

well i've been takin some practice tests from time to time but i havent been like....sitting in my room 24/7 ^^" see....i started to look for scholarships since junior year and basically........a HUGE percentage of them are when we are seniors.....so i think u can worry about that later, like in the middle of senior yr or something. some of them are just like writing essays...but im too lazy to do that XD
i havent even thought about financial aid O_O

and for me.....well im applying to mostly UCs and thdy let u apply only in a certain time so i dont even have to worry about that til that comessss

You start signing up for financial aid as soon as you can when school starts. And sign up for FAFSA when January 1st, 2007 starts right away, because its first come first serve. And some schools might have pre-enrollment in the fall, and you can sign up then, but you HAVE to be sure you want to go to that school.

do most colleges take the highest SAT scores frm each section, or do they take the highest score frm one test sitting?
for example (js random #s):

SAT test #1:
CR: 590
MT: 550
WR: 520
total: 1660

SAT test #2:
CR: 570
MT: 580
WR: 570
total: 1720

would they js see that the score frm test #2 was higher and take that score, or would they add the highest frm each section (590 CR frm test #1, 580 MT frm test #2 and 570 WR frm test #2, which equals 1740)?

^ it depends on which college. you have to send all your scores anyways..the UCs take the highest from one sitting.....hwoever others take the highest from each section tho

Well like poopoo I haven't done any of my SAT and I'm in a chaotic mood cause I don't know whether I should really sit for SAT II or not. If I do sit for SAT II I won't have time because there are soo many of the test I want to take but have no time.

The reason for mines however is not because I have been procrastinating but rather on the fact that I only joined the american system last year and started in Junior.

However is it really true that you can send your SAT scores after application?

Another question I need to ask is... a college I want to go to says I have to do 4 years/credits of maths especially

Geometry, Algebra I, Algebra II, but I haven't done it because ... Juniors should have finished it and I already did a mixture of that when I was in England except for Algebra II I did join when I was in Junior because I was free from that period ... but I had difficulties with the teacher who spite me for no reason and so I quit the class with very disappointing grades...she gave me an F for a reason I cannot and will not accept.

She gave me an F because she said my pencil writing was too light and she couldn't read the answer when all the answers were correct.

And not to blow my own horn but I am an A student for Maths and that is my greatest down fall.

That is my only problem in my school grades...how do you advice that I should cover for it? Should I take SAT II maths ?

Please I'm begging someone to advice me T__T I dare not talk to my councellor about this because she too is prejudice against me just because I came back from England to an International School she thinks I'm the one who is stuck up...

PLEASE HELP ME.

Yeah, I think so. There's a SAT in October, November, and December for the rest of this year. I'm taking my last one in November. And yeah, I've been studying for it. Not really TOO hard though, because I guess I'm ok with my last score. It wasn't extremely high by any means, but yeah...I'm not too worried about it.

Other than studying for that this summer, I've thought about FAFSA/financial aid, but haven't actually done anything yet because I don't know a single thing about applying. I don't know where or when to start. I thought I heard something about applying AFTER you've been accepted?

But I've been looking at applications...doing what I can. I've already finished one because for that college I don't need to write an essay since I passed some requirements (YAYAYAYAYAYAYAY)...but I need to wait because I still need to take one more core class.

I'm currently working on one essay. It could be two, but right now I'm just focused on this one. For the other schools, they don't even have their applications for fall 2007 online yet. I've been emailing the admissions offices and asking them when they'll be online and stuff...most of them said that they wouldn't be online until about September. But one of them said that their's will be online in quote "TWO WEEKS!!!" (ahaha she sounded so excited) so I guess I'll be checking back and starting on that one soon also.

I doing all this early because I'm going to have a really busy senior year with full time dual enrollment (18 credits for each quarter) plus senior project and I really really really need to pay attention to my grades.

My GPA died a little last year. sad.gif

I've been obsessing over college too.. going to take last SAT II in October, another SAT I in November in time for Early decision.

Working on common app personal statement, Princeton supplement essays. I hope to get them done by end of August. I visited Princeton early July and loved it, so I'm going to apply Early Decision.

well...i'm mostly in the planning stages.
i've already written one essay and i'm just going to write a couple others so that i can get the best essays to submit.
as for the colleges, i made little information sheets with the school, location, average GPA and SAT scores, population, housing, and majors i'm interested in, and also study abroad opportunities.

i've visited pepperdine, USC, occidental, and some UC's this summer. but before this summer i did a small east coast tour to look at schools i'm interested in over there: boston university, columbia, brown, yale, NYU, and UPenn. i'm so torn about where to apply.

most applications are pretty generic and they ask for the same basic information, so filling out that part should be pretty easy.

ahh college. how fun.

^ i made all these tables/charts with info on the schools im planning to apply to too.. i felt like such a dork but now i know im not the only one =P not to say that that's a bad thing.

jw, do most ppl plan on doing applications online or by paper? ive hrd that for some colleges, you dont have to pay an application fee if you submit it electronically.. is that true?

^Hmmm...the online applications for the schools I'm applying to say that I have to pay a fee from like $40-$50. So I'm guessing you DO have to pay an application fee.

I plan on doing most of mine online. Except for one I think.

*edit* Oh...wait. I just realized that one of the online applications said that the fee will be waived.

Maybe it depends on the school?

^^ Yeah, it does. Case western waives the fee if it's an online app. Most schools don't, I think.
