It could be that you've a weak body. You should try eating regularly and exercise. That really does help. Oh yeah, sleeping on your side is also a way to avoid it, but even then, sleep paralysis can still occur. But it's actually unhealthy for your body to sleep on the sides.

Laugh? Scream? Whisper? That's so freaky. I'm getting a bit scared, now >:'(. Reading the other posts is creeping me out even more.. It's worse than watching a scary movie.. ahh.

I had this when I was younger (I haven't had it for a lonng time). It was indeed very scary. The suffocation is horrible.. It usually didn't last that long (maybe a few seconds?). I guess that my case wasn't too severe because it was mainly the suffocation that bothered me (I don't remember anything else but the suffocation, actually). I just kept trying to force the oxygen into my lungs, and I was able to breath after a few tries.

so each night i'm actually scared that this black thing or something,
might pop out to me and suffocate me. i'ev never got it before.
is it possible to never get it in your life?
or maybe i did. but like this girl was calling my name.
for like 5 seconds btu then it went away haha

I've had it before and recently too. If you wake up before it fully kicks in, I think you can try to stop it. I woke up right when I started feeling suffocated and paralyzed. I felt it build up. But if you concentrate very hard on trying to move a part of your body it will work. Ignore the black figure and screaming voices.

You know.. i've gotten this on all the sides I've slept on. Lol.

i've had it for almost 10 years now. NO joke. it started when i was in 2nd grade and now im going into 12th. i've gotten use to it and now its just a big hassle because you're so tired when you get, that when you actually get out of paralysis you want to go back to sleep because youre so tired and when you go back to sleep it happens again (a horrible cycle). i get it when im really tired but my mind is still working..if that makes sense. like youre eyes are heavy but your mind is still awake. it sucks. i wish there was a cure

Sleeping on your side does not help.
I've had sleep paralysis on my side.

Scientifically speaking, sleep paralysis is nothing more than hysteria caused by your body not fully exiting REM before your mind.
So your mind is awake but neck down is paralyzed because well, if u moved like your eyes do during your REM cycle, you'd break alot of bones.

The thing that helped me is to sleep more. LACK OF SLEEP causes it, so does narcolepsy. so if you have narcolepsy, go get it checked out.

And even though all this scientific crap makes sense, the one thing that REALLY helped me was to spray holy water in my room and pray. I know that sounds wierd but i'm pretty sure the false feeling of security earned by such spiritual acts prohibits your mind from doing mini cooper to you when you are sleeping.
hope that helps =]

when this happens to me, it feels like i'm awake because i can see everything--even this creepy shadow. it has only happened twice to me, but it seems like every time i get it, that shadow comes closer sad.gif

last time i got it, i was so scared that it'll happen again when i close my eyes... so i just didn't sleep.

I use to have gahwee dreams a lot. I don't have them now, but yeah. When I used to have them my body would ache-- I mean I could see everything going on and it's actually really happening as I see it in my gahwee dream but not be able to move at all. My brother used to be by my side at all times when I took a nap or something so he could wake me up.
The one time that really scared me was when before I went to sleep in my room (my brother and mom decided to sleep next to me--this was when I was in 5th or 6th grade), I closed the door and pulled the blanket over real tight so I could feel safe. Well, I had that gahwee dream, and saw the door that I closed being opened and a black figure coming over to my side and pull off the blanket. When I woke up, the door was actually open and the blanket that was covering me was on the floor. Basically after that day, if I had another gahwee dream, I would start to sing hymns or start praying really loudly in my head and I just stopped having those gahwee dreams.

hmm..the adults told me it's because the ghost push your body down and wouldn't let you move...that scared the crab out of me...but i dont belive that anymore ever since i saw a spychologist on the Tv said that while you're sleeping, your brain is still working ..and so they have to lock your body down in case you have a bad dream or whatever.. like you see those people who are sleep walkers..their body just didn't do a good job on locking their body down when they're sleeping...and so they just do whatever they do and see in their dreams...in some worse cases, some people just woke up and kill the body next to them...because they might had a dream being attacked by some body and they couldn't control themselves and so they just woke up and kill the person laying next to them...scary stuff huh?!! luckily i'm not in any of those situation..

so when you wake up but you couldn't move is because u wake up too fast and your body didn't have enough time to unlock itself yet...and so there's no such thing as ghosts..no worries about ghosts...hahah

HOLY THAT HAPPENED TO ME. except i didnt kill my mom. i punched her in the stomach.

another time .. i kicked her in the stomach

then i punched her again mellow.gif tears.gif

It's scary. It happened to me twice. & the completely scary/odd thing about it, was I experienced the first in July of 2006 ; & the second time in July of 2007 around the same time -- 5:23 am. It scares the living ^*$%*(%$( out of me:( the first time I experienced it; I couldn't sleep in my own room for about a whole 7 months. I tried screaming and such when I saw a "demon". :/ Freaky stuff. I shouldn't have watched that Emily Rose movie... ph34r.gif

The second time it happened to me, I was like screw it :]. In the end, I'll still
have a family who loves me, a boyfriend who loves me, and my mind isn't
gonna play some dumb game with me.. (even though I did see like a
dark scary figure looking at me....)

um yeah chill out people, i talked ot my doctor about it. it's nothing to do with ghost bugging you or anything...something to do with your spine and how you're sleeping or something forgot
the way to get out of it is to move you toes. yes your toes are able to move when in this. i used to get it alot, wiggle your toes uncontrolablly and you will get out of it. and you can also get it when sleeping on your side. i kinda know when im about to get it cause this weird woosy feeling overcomes me.
so yeah

did u change beds recently? the reason ur getting it is cuz ur waking up too early so your body isn't ready to move yet
try a comfy-er bed? maybe drink some warm milk before you sleep
