well its hasnt happened to me..and hopefully it wont in the future but my family meembers had said its happened to them a few times...

but heard that it you have someone sleep on the same spot you sleep on for a few days then the ghost or whatever goes away because its not you that it keeps in doing that to...then later you can try and sleep on your spot again and it wont happen anymore...
thats what i heard..

Okay first of all: yeah. it's real. you're not crazy...and it feels more real than reality : X
...and to clarify things, you're like half-separated from your physical body. I mean think of it: you can SEE the room around you, yet your eyes are closed cuz you're sleeping.

I used to get this everyday of 8th grade...
7 times a night..
I thought I was going mad...but unlike your situation, it was during the night instead of WAKING UP to it, It'd be more like my body fell asleep before my mind did...

For me though, it wasnt paralysis... I'd be like
moving around freely, but my body would still be in the same position
FIRST TIME it happened though, my chest was stuck to the bed.

Never happens anymore... If it does, I make it stop cuz I get freaked out XD;;
If I ever start floating up, first I freak out...then I rush back to my bed, wake, and make sure my body is like not falling asleep.. like i walk to the bathroom...
perhaps eat something... and i walk back to my bed and sleep.

...but since it's happening when you WAKE...
that's a little different;
before you sleep, your body kinda numbs itself so you don't end up acting out your dream or sleepwalking...
...and like... when you wake... you gotta wait for it to swish back.

...or you can choose to go back to sleep until your body wakes.
just kinda tell yourself to go back... AND... think of your TOES...especially your big-toes.
I hope this kinda helps. I've never tried the toes one... but supposedly it should help.
or if you're Christian, pray to God.

i think it happened to me about 2-3 times this past year.
maybe it's because my sleeping pattern has been so crazy lately... haha.
a lot of people have experienced it, so i'm not that scared anymore.
i tried screaming, but it didn't work. my throat made this weird noise though..
i just felt very very heavy... and warm.

This happened to me before too T_____T
IT WAS SO SCARY
it was around 3 am.. when i "woke up"
i couldn't see anything.. and it felt like my arm was being electrocuted
i thought my hand fell into the socket at the time and it felt like my brain was being fried~ I couldn't scream or move or do anything
so i thought i would wake up retarded... i was really scared that there was something in my room when i woke up
and i was no where near an electrical socket

T____T SO SCARY
only happened once but I thought a ghost did it at the time.. I remember hearing abt it somewhere.. it's called kanashibari in japanese I think?
which means tied down/tied metal or something @@;;

this happened to me once (the same semester when i was taking psychology too, so i didn't really panic). the reason i got it was because someone knocked on my dorm room really hard and suddenly and i guess my mind woke up abruptly before my body/muscles did. i've never really gotten it since, but maybe if you use one of those alarm clocks that wakes you up gradually it may reduce sleep paralysis? cuz it gives your body time to adjust to waking up, and its more natural.

I'm not sure if this happened to me, but it seems familiar to what I experienced .
It lasted about like 5 seconds for me . I think my eyes were closed at the time but it seemed
like they were open because, of course I see what I usually wake up to. But then I couldn't
get up . I was trying to move my hand, I somewhat lifted it but while I was lifting I was
shaking so much . Then there was black and white lights flashing. I was going to cry
or scream. but before that I guess I woke up . But it could've been just a nightmare ?
with no story to it =) hahahah .

Thanks mom.

I'm afraid to go to bed.

Just push your tummy out if your in such a state, like bouncing it off. Should go away instantly.

Worked for me tho cool.gif

QUOTE (hairbalL @ Jul 18 2006, 12:40 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I heard people say to put a knife under your matress and it will stop, no idea why, something about being more aware or something.

lol thats freaky...

usually your body is supposed to be parallysed while you sleep
i learned about it in psychology. your brain paralyses your body so that you dont move while you sleep because of the dangers of you acting while dreaming. although sometimes i'll have a dream like a dog biting me or something and i'll wake up to my finger nails dug into where the dog bit me in my dream

um..
since i dont know if anyone mentioned it but physiologically..
this happens because of your REM. (Rapid Eye Movement) When you are at your REM state, your body automatically stops moving (you don't want to be rolling off somewhere would you? =3=) However sleep paralysis happens when your brain awakes from your REM state, but your body hasn't realized it, and stays still. Hence you are 'paralysed' Your brain gets confused, and from this 'fear', hallucinations or your greatest 'fears' appear onto you. (Seriously theres been cases where some people saw Darth Vadar. lolll)

Btw these occur from stress, lack of sleep and the position you sleep in.

Anyone whose never got it... man x_x; you are lucky. Its an extremely scary experience, especialyl when you are a kid. What's scary is not the 'hallucinations' that you see, but the feeling in your chest. It feels like the floor is sucking you to hell. ^^;;;; not good.

i get 가위눌림 at times too.
it used to be worse, very very bad when i was young.
but now everytime it happens i konw how to fix it so im not that bothered anymore. (and when i do get it, i just go NOT AGAIN =_= and twitch my fingers)

(the very simple way in fixing sleep paralysis, IF it is a physiolocal problem: is by changing the position that you sleep in. Sleep paralysis occurs mostly or everytime when you sleep on your back. The best way and most comfortable way is to sleep on your left side in a fetus position...........IF it is a psychological problem, you may need to fix your daily schedule and get a good sleeping routine and do some sports or hobbies to relieve stress...)

(the hard way is you can take pills that relax your muscles or sleeping pills from keeping awake.)

oh and edit//
i forgot to add,
IF YOU DOOOOOOOOOO get sleep paralysis, and you want to get out of it as quickly as you can (believe me, you will x_x) the most sensitive parts of your body that will move first, is your fingers. if they start moving, the rest of your body will detect these messages and awake too)

and...
when i was young i thought i could speak to ghosts because i always got 가위눌어 =3= apparently not hahaha.

I posted in another thread like this but, yeah basically I experienced sleep paralysis once. It was really horrible and I was panicking on the inside. I remember I was having a bad nightmare and I was partly conscious so I told myself to wake up. So my dream dissolved like the feeling I was emerging up from underwater but, then it went all black and I was stuck in "between".

I just remember freaking out because I couldn't wake up so I tried to calm myself down and try to move my fingers or open my eyelids. But, they felt like a million pounds and everything felt so heavy. I think this went on only for a few minutes but it felt like eternity before I woke up.
