MY TIPS:
1) Get a Buddha statue in your room, or whatever god you believe in. (ever since I got this, it hasn't been happening to me)
2) Sleep on your side.
3) Cover yourself with a blanket when you sleep, and don't even bother to open your eyes when you feel the "presence". Just think to yourself "lalalalala I'm going to move my body now", or something silly like that. Hey it helped me xD As long as I don't see anything, I'm fine x_x

there's two different kinds of scissor locks. the first is the "non-scary" one where you just feel the lock in the body and the awareness in the mind and it goes away after a while. the second one is a bit more spiritually/religiously/whatever related because the person sees ghosts/demons/etc. to my knowledge, the first one is more rare and the second is more common.
this is an example of the first kind.
one of my friends told me about her scissor lock experience during our finals week. during the month of may (AP testing) and june (SAT and finals testings), her and her twin were soo tired all the time cuz they slept only a few hours every night bcuz of studying. during the last week of school (finals week), she fell asleep while studying for her finals when she got a scissor lock. she said her body was "sleeping" so her eyes were closed and everything but her face was facing her twin sister and so she could see her sister studying in front of her. in her mind she called out to her sister to ask her for help and right at that moment (when she called out to her sister), her sister looked right at her. if the twin that had the scissor lock was fully "awake", they would've made eye contact. according to the twin sister (not the one who had the scissor lock but the other one), she was studying when she suddenly wanted to know what her sister was doing so she looked at her and thought "omg she's sleeping again". it was at that second the twin (with the scissor lock) called out to her in her mind for help.
i dont think the coincidence in the twin (with the scissor lock) calling out to her sister and the other twin looking right at her can be stated as something related to "evil" or whatever you wanna call it. but if you want to think it that way then you're free to do that.
another really short story of my friend's friend scissor lock experience is that him and his church were coming back down from the mountains from a church retreat. those of you who go to retreats know that on the last day, you BARELY sleep -__-. he was soo tired from their last night at retreat (since they play games and stuff until morning) that he tried to sleep in the car. but every time he almost fell asleep, he would get a scissor lock. after the scissor lock ended, he would try to sleep again, and right before he fell asleep, he would get another scissor lock. it was consecutive for about 5 or 6 locks until it finally stopped.
now THESE are stories that totally FREAKK ME OUT. (scissor lock type #2!)
someone else mentioned this before in this thread but i'll just say it anyway. when my friend got a scissor lock, she felt the pressure on her chest (usually people say a ghost is sitting on you or pushing you down or something like that). this is usually the first sign of getting a scissor lock. and of course her eyes were closed but yet open (it's closed physically but she can still see her room and stuff). and in her room, around her, were a bunch of ghosts jumping and running around and looking and laughing at her as if they were making fun of her. she also said she saw a creature/man/whatever you wanna call it/thing that looked like the boss of the group of demons/ghosts/whatever. since she is christian, she believes it was satan. but being a christian myself, i personally dont think satan would do anything like that himself since he can always just make his slaves do it (the ghosts/demons/whatever). but then againn, he might since he's a thing that enjoys watching other people in pain.
another one of my friends gets these scissor locks really really often. she gets it almost everyday. and like iAM_Vindicated, she gets really used to it and stopped finding it out of the ordinary. she is also christian and says the lord's prayer (for those of you who don't know it's just a poem type thing that almost all christians memorize) to get out of it. it worked for her for a very very long time and one time she just started saying the lord's prayer automatically when she got the scissor lock but that time it was different. her eyes weren't "open" so she couldnt see around her during her lock, but her ears were very alert. she said she heard a voice right next to her ear (so it felt like someone was whispering to her) speaking the lord's prayer backwards at the same time as she was saying it frontwards.
i also know a few people who can "feel it coming". so before they sleep, they can tell if theyre going to be locked that night or not. my friend and my other friend's pastor does this. when my friend feels it, she sleeps with her bible next to her and when my other friend's pastor feels it, she asks her husband to pray for her before she goes to "sleep."
anyways this is really long and i only told stories! -___-
i'll stop with the stories now.
as i know it, people who are religiously weak get scissor locks a lot. but i dont think it's 100% true because as i mentioned just before this, my friend's pastor gets scissor locks really often but she is in no way religiously weak. but althought it's not 100% true, i'm almost positive that it is true for way more than half the time. my dad for example, wasn't a christian until he got married to my mom (when he was 27). he told me he got scissor locks every single day but he never got it again after he started going to church. as christians, we believe that god is the most powerful being and we can say that satan lost his game against god over my dad hahaha. i also have a friend who has another friend, let's just call her kathy or something. so kathy was a on-and-off church-goer. sometimes she wouldn't miss a service for 2 years and sometimes she wouldnt go to any service for 2 years. during one of her hiatus years, she started getting scissor locks really really often. and since she also knows a lot about it, she got scared and started going to church again. the scissor locks stopped THE DAY she started going back to church. (and satan loses again. HA) as i hear from other people around me that know her, she hasn't stopped going to church for a really long while now.
most religious people do things such as reciting the lord's prayer, praying, singing christian songs, reciting bible verses, etc to get out of the scissor locks.
for those of you who are other religious and believe in other gods, you can sing your religious songs if you want, or you can pray to your god, or recite "sentences" (iono what to call it..) from your own religion's "holy book" (iono what to call this either..). the philosophy that you are asking for help or leaning to another being besides the demons that are torturing you and believing that your god is greater than the demons that are torturing you will make them go away because they can feel hopeless with your belief in whatever you're believing in.
someone else also mentioned the "sleeping on your side" thing before but i wanted to add something to it. from what i know, sleeping on your side does in fact help prevent scissor locks. this is because usually when people get scissor locks, they feel the pressure on their chest. if you sleep on your side, it's "harder" for the ghost to "push you down".
and here's a trick that my friend told me (if you're non-religious then this might work for you!) but i personally don't know if it actually works because i havent experienced a lock yet. buttt she said that once you're in a lock, all you have to focus on is moving a PART of your body even if its the SLIGHTEST movement. once you get that to work, every other part of your body will release soon afterwards. so you can work on moveing your toe or your tongue or your fingers. the pinky finger is what she recommended to me so you can try that out if you want. so basically try to move a little bit in a small part of your body rather than trying to move your whole arm or your whole leg or your whole upper body at once.
sorryyy this is so long, i bet only like 2 people read the whole thing but i hope whatever part you read gave you info you needed =/
edit--
i just read DaHee's comment about the demon staring at her friend. and my friend experienced the same thing! except it wasn't right in front of his face (that's way scarier

I first experienced it at the end of 9th grade, like 5 months ago;
Actually, it didn't happen for a while (like a few weeks) Stupid highschool stres..
I can't move my body, but after a while (like a few seconds), it comes back to normal..
I can control my breathing pace, but can't close my mouth..
During that time when I'm aparalyzed, my mind is racing with all these voices..
I tried to remember some from last night.. "Call 911" (Isn't it a coincidence that today is 9/11?)
And something along the lines of "Why did you do this to me?"
For some reason, instead of actually waking up and telling my parents, I just go back to sleep..
Also, I never get it when I take naps in the daytime..
It's as if the 'demons' or whatever know that my family isn't just outside the room..
And it only happens when the entire room is dark (no hallway lights)
For me, it helps when I start praying to God, telling the evil spirits to go away..

not so scared/afraid anymore, and whoever mentioned to PRAY. ..forreal.
pray. shout out to god, buddha w/e you believe in and that mini cooper will go away.
btw i hate the sounds. there's sounds that would enter through my left ear like
white noise...bugs me more than the whole not being able to move thing.
