Every time I mention it to anyone they have no clue what I am talking about and look at me like I am crazy. The first few times I got it I thought I was being possessed or something. It's so scary. It feels kind of like there is a massive weight on you. You can't like move, talk, breath or anything. I might say it is related to being overtired. One night when I was sick it happened to me countless times and it got so bad that I don't think I ever actually slept that night. It's really hard to fall asleep after it happens because you are such a ball of stress. I am just glad that other people know what it is!

lala-rainbow - Oh, I think I've heard of that third eye half opened thing too. ): If that's the case, I want it closeedddd.

I've had this happen to me a few times before and it's such a horrible experience. >_<
It feels so awful being "awake", but not being able to move, especially when you start to envision scary stuff happening. D;
The times that it happened to me, I always felt/saw a scary person/thing in my presence moving towards me and no matter how much I try to move or scream, I just couldn't.

ANYWAYS , I told my parents about this loL ~ & my dad told me about how when he was in
Vietnam , he suddenly woke up & couldn`t move , & his eyes were open . Then on the ceiling ,
right above , he saw a man that was staring at him & smiling , & then man kept dropping on him
from the ceiling again & again .

I`m so scared right now , like , I don`t even wanna go to sleep tonight . T____T"

google says that sleep paralysis usually occurs when you're under alot of stress.
it's true for me at least.
Every time it happens, I always tell myself that I'm going to get up, walk around and wake up.
but it never happens. lol. I get too sleepy and it's too hard to move.

ooh some people say that when you undergo sleep paralysis, you're getting possessed by a spirit. creepy, huh? but I don't believe it.

i would rather believe i'm under stress than say a ghost is on top of me, just 'cos that sounds better, haha.
i'm amaze a lot of ppl has experience this. i got this one time in my life and i hope it stays that way,
'cos boy was it a scary HORRIBLE, wordless, unmovable experience.
though i read its due to stress, etc, i'm amaze 'cos this happened to me when i was, hmm, 10, now i'm 20,
and i would say i was in more stress now than back then when i was a kid.

ever since then, i sleep on my side, and if i caught myself sleeping on my back, i turn to my side as quickly as i can.
BUT one thing i know is forsure, anyone who do get it, YOU SHOULD PRAY.
that was the first thing i did (i don't go to church but i am a believer of God and Christ).
and as scary as it happened, when i did pray, the ghost (it was a little caucasian girl, yes i remember, but she didn't look scary, thank God!)
she looked to my left and looked terrify because i prayed and BOOM, i woke up.

This happened to me too when I was younger. I think I was 12 years old at the time? But yeah, I woke up from a bad dream and found myself paralyzed. Idk, I just went back to bed and woke up fine in the morning. The was the only time it ever happened to me.

Ah I still have it after hmm 6 some years.
Overtime it has gotten a lot less scary. In the beginning I had night terrors and had to sleep with the closets closed, door opened and light near me.It helped to just bear with it to see the end or what happens. After that, it's been very mild. These days, I just get paralyzed with no hallucinations.

It happened to me several times...it usually happens when I am completely tired which was during exam period...

I couldn't move and my eyes were getting really heavy, while all I could hear was a very high pitched noise - I couldn't make out what it was. I knew that if I fell asleep then it my ears would hurt even more. So I would try to move my fingers/toes - whatever part of my body, as long as it kept me awake. Then I would try to keep moving my eyes around and think of random thoughts to stay awake. After a while I would break free from it and just get off my head ASAP lol.

But yeah, its scary stuff alright >_<!!!

Ohh.. I get this once in awhile... like once every few months. Usually, I get it if I'm super super overly tired that week or something and I sleep, and I get that thing. One time, I fell asleep in the car with my uncle in the front while my mom went out to get some food, and I got it, but when she came back, I woke up. So I found out you have to actually stimulate your brain to wake up. Although if you're in bed and sleeping, it's kinda hard. All you can do is just calm down, and slowly wake yourself up.

woah! this never happened to me before, but my mom said that it happened to her too, but she called it, "ma de (in vietnamese)" meaning "ghost on top of you." i was sleeping with her that time when it happened. she felt suffocated, couldn't move, her eyes were close, felt like something is on top of her, and she felt like someone was lifting up the blanket next to her feet. she trying to use her finger to wake me up, but i didn't lol. so she start saying the prayers. i think it was 5 mins later it stop. she got scared and ran in her room. btw: it was in my room.

we learned about sleep in med school recently... it's technical but i remember learning that sleep paralysis is a symptom of narcolepsy... when you suddenly lose muscle tone while awake.
hallucinations before falling asleep is also a symptom, and it's believed narcolepsy is linked to a compound called orexin released from your hypothalamus.

also, seeing weird things when you wake up is nothing to be scared of...
when you sleep parts of your brain associated with emotional, altogether termed the limbic system, are highly active. on the other hand, the parts of your brain that are associated with reasoning (frontal cortex) are suppressed. this is why dreams tend to be highly emotional and scary at times, without making much sense. also, your visual system is active so you "see" dreams, but don't hear, smell or experience other senses when you're dreaming

I've read a lot on it. I've experienced it once in my life, and my dad has too. Most people experience it once or twice in their life so it's normal. It also happens to some people many times, or can occur really often. They say when you wake up and it happens, try wiggling your toes or jaw first.

Ahh this happens to me ALL the time :/
Sometimes multiple times in one day.
Especially, when I'm exhausted.
It's so bad now that I have dreams about being "stuck" as I call it.
I always try and calm myself down and breathe slowly.
Then I try and concentrate on moving a part of my body, normally my hand/fingers.
I've noticed jerking my head is the easiest way to wake up.
It takes me a few tries though.
My dad has severe sleep disorders and my mom gets it too so I think it's hereditary.

It's pretty normal though, but it can be a sign of other sleep disorders.
Also, the sites I've read say the feeling of there being "demonic" presence is a common
side effect.
Luckily, I never have those.
O.o One time I watched half a Spongebob episode while I was stuck.
It was crazy b/c when I called my friend and described the episode to her I was exactly right.
I've had enough sadness to last me for awhile.
It's nothin' but sunshine and smiles from here(:

That used to happen to me.
Just try not to panic and the first thing you should do is try to move your fingers.

This sort of thing is something only lucid dreamers experience. It's somewhat common, but if it's repetitive, I don't think that's good o_O. It IS something that goes away eventually, but I forgot how to make that happen.

The thing you need to keep reminding yourself is to stay calm and know that it's just a phase. Sleep paralysis is in no way life threatening, although if your mind doesn't know that, it will think you are in danger, thus having a form of adrenaline rush. So keep calm!!!

Source: I studied dreams and lucid dreams for a year.
