Now that I'm abroad, it doesn't happen.
Initially, I thought it was just cause of stress, etc.
But when I go back for a short trip, the same thing happens.
So I guess it's the problem with the room and me, not due to other factors. :x
Didn't read most of the posts (cause it's 33 pages. ^^; )
But the first time it happened to me, I was very very freaked out!
I saw something black coming out of me or "floating" around but it's like smoke or something, not something visible.
Managed to open my eyes but could not move my body or every scream.
I felt breathless at the same time. This was the only time that I could open my eyes.
The other times, my body just froze and I had to mentally "wake" or remind myself that this is not real.
After a while, it'll go away and I'll sleep elsewhere but my room.
It just always happens in the same room.
Not sure if this has been mentioned, but sometimes, I kinda know it's going to happen, I'll try to wake up or move my hands or legs before it.

But whatever it is always get ready to move your arm.
When this happens, I usually move my arm because it's the easiest to move.
& when it moves, my body instantly wakes up. :]
The first time this happened to me, I got really scared.
I remember I tried calling for my mom but my mouth couldn't move.

I don't know if mine is considered sleep paralysis.
But I tend to have a lot of nightmares, I rarely dream too.
But I can't wake up through the nightmares, I have to stay asleep until the end...
Like, but my mind is telling me that I need to get up.

I think part of it is psychological fear and I know the mask will prevent me from being able to see at night (I use to not be able to shut my eyes when it happens and see moving shadows all over my room).
Edit -- oh I sleep on my back now because my sleeping mask prevents me from getting scared. It's too comfortable of a position to give up.

It even happened to me when I was sleeping beside my mom. There was a blackout, and so it was dark, but I could see my mom, and I desperately wanted to wake her up because I thought someone was about to come into the room. Before I "woke up" or the paralysis, I had a dream, and the person I was expecting to come in was already going up the stairs holding a candle.

i tried opening my eyes, but my eye kept like closing and opening, like it couldn't keep open..but that's because i tried forcing myself to move... i was so scared.. i wanted to scream..i just wished that my mom or sister or dad could pass by and just shake me awake or something... but then..you just can't move! I don't think that's true. Well it doesn't apply to me anyway. >_<
I get this quite a lot because I have odd sleeping patterns and I've been lacking sleep lately. I used to be really freaked out but now I'm used to it (as strange as it sounds). To "move" again I usually concentrate really hard on moving one body part, if that doesn't work I "sing" in my head. Like when you have a song stuck in your head, I sing in my head and that usually "wakes" my body up.
