Play this game and you may die in seven days.
Square Enix is bucking its trend of Final Fantasy remakes to bring an original horror title, Nanashi no Game ("The Game With No Name") to Nintendo DS.
The gameplay looks to take a page from previous DS adventure games such as Hotel Dusk: Room 215, and even plays the same way, with the DS tilted sideways.
But here's the twist: Nanashi introduces the idea of a cursed game, a la The Ring, that not only affects the in-game characters, but the player as well. You'll also get to experience the game within the game (in the form of a retro RPG), and get haunted messages via an interface that looks just like the Nintendo DS' front end.
The game is set for release on July 3rd in Japan. No announcements of a release outside Japan, yet.
I'm all for more graphic adventure games on the DS -- I loved both Trace Memory and Hotel Dusk -- and I'm still hoping that all the classic LucasArts games -- anything from Maniac Mansion to the Monkey Island series -- will someday appear on the DS. In their absence, this looks really interesting.

its gonna be hard to emulate a MMORPG for DS though
especially consider there is so much lag on wifi already
and offline MMO is kinda meh

but it's supposed to NOT be an MMO; supposed to be 1player, an i think it'll have the option of multiplayer through wifi.
it's supposed to release in Korea soon, but I don't know about the US..

Not to get technical but MMORPG stands for Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game, therefore what you said is an oxymoron.
If it was offline it would just be a RPG, which is totally doable.
Just to add, I think the MapleStory on DS will be targeting offline play, but also including some WiFi feature. It is hard to keep an online community (like the PC version) because I don't think the DS cartridge allows extra memory (ie. expansions and patches).
I'm not even a MapleStory fan (have never played it) but if it came to DS I'd definitely try it out.

um.. diablo II was MMO but still had offline elements... im just saying that playing by yourself isnt fun..
MMO =/= online only

MMO =/= online only
Being a MMO with offline elements does not make it an offline MMO. Likewise, being an offline game with online elements does not make it a MMO.
No one said MMOs needed to be online ONLY, however if anything takes place offline it should affect what happens online. Which is to say, the game is still online.
When what goes on offline is completely detached to what happens online, then it is really its own game (such as an offline adaptation of a game).
You simply cannot have a MMO without the general game taking place in an online, multi-playered community (hence the name). MMOs are built around the community and interaction between players.
I'll use your example. If you isolated the offline experience of Diablo II and called it a game (as if the online portion never existed) the game is just a regular RPG game.
You would not be calling it an offline MMO, because nothing about it is multi-playered or online.
