That's strange, my battery doesn't die that fast :/
I didn't charge mine the first time I bought it too, I just turned it on straight away and my battery has been fine, so I don't think that's the problem :S

Just get a new battery? I think they sell extra batteries in some stores, so you can just replace it instead of buying a new DS. That way, you wont have to go through so much trouble.

Are you serious? NO WONDER. I didn't know you're supposed to charge it before you turn it on... How gay. I have to buy a new battery now? I knew it was kind of weird how the battery runs out so fast.
I got my DS for free. I worked at a game store and my boss gave me one plus a game. Har.

I don't know if my advice will help, but did you check how high your backlight settings were on? 'Cause the higher it is, the faster the battery will drain out.

Red light means that you have 30% of your battery left.
Also, 5 hours isn't bad, depending on your playing conditions.
If you play with sound, it will use up more battery (volume matters too).
And like someone else mentioned, the brighter you set your screen (check backlight), the more battery it will use.

I really like Prof Layton. It's a fun point and touch mystery puzzle game. There are a lot of sub-plots which I'm not far enough to have completed yet...But I've been playing this for a bit and I finally caught the stupid cat just now hahaha
I wonder how many puzzles there are because I've only completed 25 :S
