Video Lags When I play a video the image freezes...

I could hear the sound, but the image freezes. After playing for awhile, the image catches up with the sound then freezes again. Is it because of my video card...? I'm not a computer expert so I don't know...

What kind of processor and video card do you have? If it's older than 4 years then possibly it's the reason but usually it's codecs and the players you use.
I myself use Media Player Classic with CCCP. Plays most files, handles subtittles, no lags (software related), and all sort of goodness.
Improperly encoded videos could also lag, you'll notice it always lag at that specific time.
