Alright, I'll admit... I was stupid lucky. Especially because I was stupid at the time. A couple years back I bought a used 2001 GSX-R750 (which makes more horsepower than most Honda's by the way
It was hauled via pickup truck to my house and I took it for a quick spin. I'm riding along and a cop pulls me over. She's a cute twenty-something blonde. I keep myself still, with my hands visible (I have cop friends that tell me they get jumpy when they can't see your hands). She runs through the usual questions, and I answer them politely with a smile (again, trying to keep myself non-threatening... besides, she's cute).
As I answer her questions, I soon realized there's a lot of things wrong here: 1) I left my wallet on the table, meaning no license on me. 2) No registration. 3) No insurance. 4) No safety inspection. 5) No helmet.
To my surprise, she scribbled some stuff on the paper.... smiled, and then crumpled it up. She just told me ride on back and get that stuff squared away before taking it out again. A wink and a smile later she heads back to her car and drives off.
As for not having a helmet.... yeah I was riding on my empty, deserted street (most of the folks were at work, since it was 1pm)... but still, it was very stupid of me. You never know what could happen out there.
