I've been pretty intimidated at the fact that my friends are doing more than what I'm tryinig to do to get into college (or something), and I don't know if I'm doing enough to have what it takes to get into a college.

So far, I've done:
-Key club (freshman year)
-Korean club (sophmore year)
-Team read (freshman & sophmore year)- it's a program where you go to elementary schools and help 3rd graders on their reading.
-Japanese club (sophmore year)
-Mock Trial (sophmore year)

I also have done:
-Volunteer work at Sea Mar Health center (pretty much play with old people)- spent last summer doing that
-participated in the Chinese Drill Team- did that last summer also.

I am thinking of joining more clubs (and actually staying in them longer also, haha), and sticking with Mock Trial for the rest of high school, and doing drill team next summer also.

As for classes, my high school does not offer a lot of AP classes, but they do have AP LA, and some other AP classes, but they are limited. I'm not sure if I should give it a shot and take on some AP classes, or stick to what I have now.

As for SATs, what books are actually helpful? I don't think I'll want to take any SAT prep classes (other than the fact that they're really expensive, and I heard they aren't that useful) so I'll study on my own. Recommendations?

keep committing more to the clubs you feel really comfortable in. and try your best to get A LEADERSHIP position in one of those clubs

i'm going to be a junior too, and i haven't joined any clubs AT ALL. except i've down like 100 hours of community service at my local library.

dannggg, now i wonder if i'm screwed.

anyway, i think you shuold just keep doing what you're doing... you can't go back and join more clubs now. just don't go overboard. decent grades should cover all the ground you left untrampled anyway...

if you don't think you're ready for AP classes, then you're not.
if you aren't reccomended to go into it, then that's even more of a reason not to.
it's A LOT of pressure and a lot of work, and kids who are in 'regulars' or 'normal' classes before and bump up to AP get lower scores because they're not used to the work.

but then again, that depends on the instructor and how your school does AP courses.
i'll be your misfit prince

^--- Yeah I was thinking about that. I don't want to strees myself out too much, but everyone says that your junior year is important, and they look at that the most, so I just want to do enough so that I can be proud to say that i've accomplished so and so.

Although my high school does offer some AP classes, I don't think they're efficient enough for me to actually take the test in the spring and hopefully pass with a 3 or 4. But then again, I don't know who the teacher is going to be for that, so I'm pretty skeptical. I just don't want my transcript to be seen 'average' without having any honors/AP/IB classes or just courses that aren't challenging me enough.

I have around 200+ (I think) hours of community service already, but I don't think thats enough. What do you think?

I'm am upcoming Junior too, and so far, I've only just begun getting involved in clubs.

I think you should start becoming really commited to ONE or TWO of the clubs, that way, you'll show that you have responsibility and that you have leadership skills (become officer or something). Don't join a bunch of clubs, just because you'll be able to have a long list of activities, you won't be able to get involved much in them.
