Lacrosse?

I always wanted to play a sport in school. My life wish ever since I could remember was to be athletic.
First off, Let me tell you a little bit about myself.
I'm fifteen, and I'm a girly girl. I'm a typical Korean girl who just goes to school and blah does her work. But one thing I suck at is just..sports and stuff. I dont' usually like gym and my mile times are pretty awful. =l
I guess I never really had a strong motivation to like practice or work out.

With more time on my hands in the summer to think random thoughts, I really regret not playing any sports since I was younger. I still feel that I'm still young and maybe I could play a sport in high school.

I've never played lacrosse before. I don't even know like basic rules, I don't know how to use the equipment and stuff. Some of my friends play and it just seems like such a cool sport.

so my question is:

For a girly girl like me, and someone who has never really played a team sport before, do you think I have a shot at making a team at high school? Do you think that if a friend or so helped me out in the summer that I have a chance at this sport? Is it too hard?
(oh yeah, that was definitely more than 1 question. my bad) sweatingbullets.gif

Its not like I'm expecting this sport to be EASY and i never really overlook anything. I'm really determined to start a sport since I've always wanted to be a part of the sports team but I don't know. Maybe i lack confidence because I'm not athletic.

So what do you think?

I'm basically looking for comments about lacrosse, or any advice...etc etc
thanks`

what grade are you going to? i started lax last year (ninth grade) and i made the jv team, but i also went to a camp to help me out. if a friend helped you out, you could have a chance of making the team but i would also recommend some clinics and camps. if you want to make the team, it also depends on how many people play lax at your school and how good your school's lax team is. yeah, lax is kinda hard to get used to but it's really fun! smile.gif and just to help you out, i'll give you the positions on a lax team so that way you can know which position you want and you should practice more.

attack: low attack and a-wing. people who play attack are the ones who make the goal. low attack cannot go past the restraining line on the opposing team. a-wing players can go both ways.

midfield: a-wing, d-wing, and center. d-wing is just like a-wing but you want to defend more than you shoot. center is the player who starts the game with a draw. you run both ways through out the game.

defense: low defense and d-wing. low defense can't go past the restraining line on the opposing team. you are basically trying to block the shooter from making a goal.

here's an illustration i drew out for my friend but it came in handy here too. smile.gif

if there aren't a lot of goalies, then that's an easy way to get on the team. wink.gif

if youre not athletic, then you should start running. dont worry though, if you play low attack or low defense you dont have to run as much. you should consider running though cause this girl on varsity made the team because she was good at running. i wasn't athletic when i tried out and i'm still not to this day. laugh.gif

a reminder though, lax is a tough sport and youre going to have to be dedicated. once you buy your stick and ball, try throwing the ball against the wall and catching it, it helps you out a lot! you still have plenty of time to practice though, i'm guessing your lax season doesn't start until feb-march? anyway, if you need anymore help PM me or talk to me on AIM at G is for GRACEEEE. smile.gif

Where do u live? If you live somewhere in California or other places where lacrosse isn't really popular it shouldn't be too hard to join the team. I got into my school's jv team a couple months after I first learned that there was a sport called lacrosse. So, if lacrosse isn't too popular in your area, as long as you start practicing now with your friends you should be able to make it by springtime. I hope you enjoy this sport once you try it, because it's ALOT of fun

Lacrosse is more of a North East American sport. MD, PA, NY, VA. These are where most lacrosse players are produced from in America. If you don't have stamina then you really shouldn't play this game. Midfielders do run more than attack and defense, but attack and defense still need to have a large amount of stamina. If you're joining a low comp. team then it'd be good for you to start out as a midfielder, see which you like better, defending or attacking, and if you like the midfield position, stay there. Probably the most important thing is passing/catching/ground balls. Take your stick, a ball, and keep throwing it against a wall and catching it. then pratice ground balls over and over, once you get the basics then build upon your strengths.

i was going to play lacrosse at my school freshman year, btw i live in michigan but i decided to play softball since i've been playing that since middle school.

i think you'll have chance to make it if your going to be in 9th becuase at my school most girls didnt even know how to play, or even hold a lacrosse stick. and basically all of them made it. sports in highschool are more important when your on jv or varsity. so thats when they basically make cuts.

whenever i see the lacrosse players, they always run A LOT during their practices. anyways i would say just try out for it smile.gif you might make it.. who knows. good luck if your giong to try out smile.gif
