bo jackson

Bo Jackson didn't play for very long in the NFL because of his hip injury. But athletic ability wise, he was one of the best. Before his senior season at Auburn university, when he weighed 222 pounds, NFL scouts timed him in the 40 yard dash at 4.12 seconds. 4.12!!! Incredible. Blazing speed.
What's that phrase? "If he's even, he's leavin'"

There's no such thing as running a 40 yard dash at 4.12, the highest recorded by machine(not hand count) was Deion Sanders 4.29.
Best RB got to be Payton, Brown, Smith, Allen, Sander and Marshall.

That was from a Sports Illustrated article published before Bo Jackson's senior year at Auburn. I was blown away, because that was the fastest time I'd ever seen ("Rocket" Ishmael had a time of 4.19 seconds). And no, it wasn't an electronic timing, it was hand timed. But so what, it was by NFL scouts, whose job it is to know how fast prospective NFL draftees are, before their team spends millions of dollars on contracts and signing bonuses. And he was hand timed by scouts under 4.2 before.
You guys remember there was one game, Raiders vs. Seahawks, back when Brian Bosworth played LB for the Seahawks. Now Brian Bosworth was a workout warrior, running the 40 in 4.42 at 245 pounds at the NFL combine the year he was drafted. There was a play where Bo Jackson got to the sidelines on a sweep. There was a point where Bosworth was right behind Jackson hugging the sidelines, just out of his reach. But Jackson just turned on the jets and he made Bosworth look SLOW, like he ran a 5.2 or something. It was amazing. Even the commentator said "Oh Lord" as Jackson sped away. 4.12 does not seem like an exaggeration at all, if that's what you're saying. Why do you think there was all that hype when Jackson was at Auburn? So much hype, like he was the second coming of Jesus or something. It was because of his speed. If you saw that play, you wouldn't doubt that he ran a 4.12

Well, post-Bo Jackson, in the early 90s, there was this kick returner for the Pittsburgh Panthers who was on their track team that supposedly was clocked in the 40 yard dash at 4.09 seconds, hand timed I assume.

I was fortunate enough to see both Barry and Bo play and those are the top 2 in my book. Speed and power.
Actually Ricky Will wasn't bad to see either until he broke his arm haha.
