Inside the box, our transmission couples the simplicity and efficiency of a manual with the smarts and sophistication of an automatic. The Tesla Roadster has only two forward gears and either one will work for most of your driving. Unlike a manual transmission, the car will not stall if you have it in the wrong gear. Plus it puts you in control of the shifting to fine-tune your driving experience or to achieve the upper limits of acceleration and top speed. And because there is no clutch, you can quickly and easily start from a stop or shift gears on the freeway.

EDIT: oops. Says it goes reverse by powering the reverse direction of motor.

If there are only two gears... what's the point of "shifting" gears? Just make it a full automatic.

LOL this car will be priced in the supercar range.

"Signature One Hundred reservations can be made with a payment of $100,000 and is fully refundable up to and including the day of delivery. Anticipated delivery for the Signature One Hundred Collector‘s Edition Tesla Roadsters is Summer 2007."

100k even before it's out? lol

interior is very simple and very clean.

I'ma guess the parking is just like a manual drive car, just put it in 1st and put the e-brake on.

kinda looks like a saleen and a rx-8 had a influence on this car

All stick shifts don't have a slot for park, you just leave it in 1st.

too bad it only goes 250 miles per charge, i would have to trailer to the track. but then again if you can afford a $100k car you could probably afford a trailer laugh.gif

If you could find an AC110~220V outlet, you might be able to charge this anywhere you can find an outlet. If I had this car, I'd use someone elses electricity laugh.gif

Just curious but now that we're on the tranny subject. Would anyone mind trying to explain to me who this new Nissan Maxima does that's so special. I think it has something to do with the gearing or the changes or something like that?

Hit the driving sweet spot with a virtual "gearless" transmission—the only one in its class—that always delivers the right amount of power to the wheels. Need power to pass? CVT holds the engine at optimal rpm for a rush of linear acceleration. Cruising on the highway? CVT drops the rpm low to maximize fuel economy and reduce noise. And without conventional fixed gears, there's no shift shock, just the smoothest driving experience available
