I'm pretty sure a lot of students here have gotten into both colleges.

All UC's have the same essays... it's mainly your gpa, sat's, and all that good stuff that will get you in.
Don't know about Stanford though.

what's your gpa and sat score if you don't mind me asking?

my gpa unweighted is a 3.9 on a 4.0 scale and i only took the act with writing and got a 33 on that since uc now accepts act with writing

i don't have mine but a strong personal essay definitely helps to get in a u.c. (i'm in berkeley by the way) what is your g.p.a? sat and act scores? i can tell you my gpa was high 4.0 but i scored fairly really low on both sat and act (~900 for sat and 23 for act, yeah really low) but my personal essay was really good, thus it helped me get in. so definitely write a strong essay.

I got to Berkeley and I have mine somewhere if you really need it. I dont think my essay was that great... I wrote it 2 days before the APPs were due and didn't have anyone read it >_O.

Tips:
- You shouldn't procrastinate, do it week in advanced and get teachers and friends to proof-read it.
- You get 1000 words for 3 essays. You can divide them any way you want, but the easiest was is 200, 200, and 600 for the open-ended one.
- Write with sincerity, they can totally tell if you are bullshitting. If you have a sob story, you can write about it, but don't feel pressured to do so if you can't comfortably write it. Sincerity and honesty goes straight to the heart and moves it.
- There's no form, write how you want to write. Don't be boring, show the schools that you're more than just the average student and that you're unique.
- Don't list out your achievements, they already know most of them since they should already be somewhere in your application. Give them a glimps of who you are.
- If you lack in other areas (gpa, tests, extra curriculars) this is your chance to prove to them that you deserve to go to that school. This can push you over the line into being admitted.
- Likewise, if your scores are high and everything is good, don't stress too much because they look at applications to weed out people before they read the essays.

i got into berk and i think my personal essay helped me out a bit. (didn't apply to stanford)
some tips:
-have professors and tutors and stuff read it over!
don't be afraid to step out of the box. colleges aren't look for the well rounded student. they're looking for unique individuals, so think of something that makes you, you.
-although the big overall concept of your essay is very important, remember to look over grammer and punctuation!
