When does your cpu start taking damage? at what temperature.
AMD?
Intel?
Or are they the same for all brands.
More specifically: AMD Athlon X2 4400+

The exact range of recommended temperature should be different for each brand and model but they are generally within each other. Note the link below has people talking about idle temperature and busy temperature.

Nah, 44 C is fine.
Most CPUs can take 85C or higher... typically the computer will shut itself down and be okay though.
Just a bit of reference I often run my laptop at 70C.
The highest I have gotten a Pentium 4 was 99C when the heatsink fell off and I didn't notice >_<
(both of those computers are over 3 years old and run fine so its okay)

mine was 60-70 before and it was ok..
between 40-60 is absolutely fine.
above 60 ... u should check ur coolin system ... itz not rele bad for ur cpu ... but it does shorten the "lifetime" .... (sry ... dunno how to say it cuz i am not a native english speaker)

^yeah.. i had a bad bad sony vaio desktop case...
i bought a new case, moved down to basement... and i get 32 idle... 40-50 load. =)
