The objective of the game is to stack cups into a pyramid. the catch is.. you cant use ur hands to pick up the cup.. u hafta use this rubberband w/ 3 paperclips attached to it. So then each group of three would pick up the cup using the rubber band and run to the destination to put their cup down. Then, they run back and hand the rubberband to the next group so the next group can stack a cup. The kids seemed to enjoy it...
but i guess it really depends on the age group... these kids were 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders.

I dont know that much games that you could use 40 players.
how about cops 'n robbers? That was a fun game. few people picked to be cops and they run around trying to tag the "robbers".

Untangle the web -the game where you have to stand in a circle and hold hands with someone not next to you and then try to get untangled.
Cross the River- put down sheets of paper on the ground [10x10] and with a predrawn map that you have, you direct the kids to go across the river. if they step on a wrong "rock" they have to go to the back of the line. the trick is for the kids who go first to turn the paper a different way if it's one of the correct rocks [of course you don't tell them that though] it teaches teamwork and stuff.
If you need better and more elaborate directions on these games, feel free to PM me. I helped put together some stuff for my youthgroup and link crew. =]
