I asked my advisor if I could take another one and he looked at me funny and said it would be really intense. He said because I'm an incoming freshman, I should take fewer classes and that 18 units was too much to handle at first. I was like oh-okay! lol, so I am plan to take four classes:
University Studies2
Writing 39A
Econ20A
--I plan on taking a chinese course, but I need to wait for my placement results. If I don't take it the first quarter, I plan on replacing it with a Psych class.
Glad to know you guys are going to Irvine too!

anyway I'm in CHP so I enrolled yesterday. I'm an idiot and I thought I could enroll in any discussion I wanted, not realizing the discussions correspond to certain lectures -__- so now I have an 8AM class (I was trying to avoiiiiiid anything before 9)
andd Irvine wasn't cool enough to provide those cool timetables for us to visualize our schedules, so I made my own hahah

I think I'm taking 2, because that's what was recommended at Academic Advising. But I feel like that's too few. Tentatively, I'm going to take HumCore and Intro to American Gov. Maybe I'll also take a math class or Soc Sci 3A.
even tho ure only taking 2 classes, its worth the units of 3 classes. ure humcore discussion is worth 4 and ure humcore lecture is also worth 4. usually discussions arent worth any units but humcore is pretty work intensive so they doubled the units. oh and if you add socsci3a try ure hardest NOT to get wrigley!!!! good luck wit humcore, i loved that class!
btw im on my sister's username.

I'm planning to take:
- Humcore 1A
- Either between Psychology P9 (Depending on the class being full by the time my window opens and I'm pretty sure it will since it's a popular course and there's not that many spots available as of now
I would love to stick with those two classes (12 units), but I'm afraid I'll fall short on units later on (I may be wrong). It seems like most people are taking three courses as incoming freshman this fall. I don't want to feel like I'm cheating myself, but then I've heard that humcore is challenging.
Is anyone else taking the seminar for humcore? I know it isn't required and it's worth no units, but I've heard that it may help you get questions answered that you couldn't ask during a lecture.
Zot...zot...zot...

GODDDDD SO DO I
I was a total choir lover in high school and I wish I could take choir at UCI. But it's 7PM-9:50PM and I bet I'd be too tired to go at that time. plus once I move out and live in apartment, I won't want to commute to Irvine just to take choir.. as much as I love it. bah. I guess I'll just take... yoga or some dance class starting winter quarter =]

I'm debating between Writing39B & HumCor...Someone help! I dunno what to choose
HumCore has A LOT more reading and writing, so prepared to spend a lot of time on this class. To me, HumCore seems a lot more fulfilling academically because of all the topics that will be covered.
When I went to SPOP, a counselor said that Writing39 is very straightforward, you work on developing paragraphs, essays, personal writing style, etc. I guess it's up to you what you prefer to learn about. A big thing to consider is that HumCore fulfills a lot of breadth requirements (categories I, IV, and VII-A)
Here's the syllabus for HumCore 2006-2007. It has the list of books and also the lesson plan for every week.
