Well there was a girl out at night, then one guy just snatched her, brought her down the swamp to r*pe her..then cut her stomach open. She died, and no one couldn't find who was the killer. My aunt's friend was actually the first to drive down there to check it out with her colleage friends. They saw her; she looked at them, and started running after the car, screaming help. Her stomach was still open when she ran. Her body looks solid I guess? Not transparent. She and her friends got really freaked out, so she turned the car around and sped out of there. Second person confirm the same story, but I'm not sure if it's true. Well, anyways, I'm not going there after hearing that story. lol UCI is fine, cuz my other aunt graduated there recently. Just don't go near the swamp OR go out at night

Uh, are you serious? You're ruling out a college because of a ghost story?

Even if the story about the murder were true, things like that happen everywhere. There have probably been fatal car accidents on almost every freeway and many of the intersections you've driven through.

Besides, if that area bothers you that much, dorm in Middle earth and take Harvard instead of Campus...

Hey! I'm in CHP, so if you have questions, feel free to ask me.
I'll try to keep it short and simple:

1. The perks:
- FIRST to register for classes. This is a HUGE advantage, since freshmen often can't get into the classes they need.
- 4 YEAR guaranteed housing. Other students only get two year guaranteed housing. So for your 3rd and 4th years, you have the option of staying in the on-campus apartments.

2. Required honors courses: you have to take these courses in order to stay in CHP
- Humanities Core H1A-B-C (TOTALLY worth it, in my opinion. fulfills a bunch of general ed. requirements)
- Social Sciences Core H1E-F-G (....not worth it. haha try to get it waived if you can)
- Science Core H90 (Bio/Chem/Physics/Earth Systems Science)

3. Thesis: in order to graduate with honors, you have to write a thesis your final year. This means you have to find a professor who will be your advisor and you have almost the whole school year to complete it.

Here's the official website. Check out the GPA requirements for staying in CHP and more detailed information. http://www.honors.uci.edu/

My advice is that you should definitely do it, even if it's just for a year or two. If you decline the offer now, it's much more difficult to apply and get in later on. You can leave the program at any time if you so choose.

i was wondering if anybody could help my friend out. he has trouble with what classes to take, because most of them are full already. what should he do since his upper division classes are full, and he's only able to sign up for 1, but he still needs 2 more? the wait list has at least 13 or so people

Tell him to waitlist right now and then attend the class even though he is not officially in it. He should also e-mail or talk to the professor and TA's to see what he can do.
I've been added to a class after being 52 on the waitlist, so he definitely has a chance.

Anyone living in International Village in AV next year? I'm gonna live there, I'm really excited! ^^ Anyone live there right now?

I'm living there next year! YAAAAAY!!!!! I've done social events with them but.. I've never seen them come over sad.gif

Where do you live now?

Why's Prado haunted?

For CHP, do you have to take all those core classes? I really want to do CHP but I didn't get in. I'm a civil engineering major btw so it wouldn't make sense for me to take all those core classes. I realllllly want to be in CHP :x

Aaah yayyy!!
I live in Middle Earth now, in Balin. Where do you live?
I'm excited that the AV houses are much smaller than the dorms... Like around 30 people instead of 80. I hope that means it's easier to bond with everyone.
I am studying abroad in Korea for 2 semesters!
Read about it here (WordPress) or here (Tumblr).

Ohh.
I actually totally regret not living in ME or MC my freshman year. sad.gif
It's actually better to bond IMO.
I live in AV right now and it's alright. smile.gif

i just got accepted to uci, and i really want to go there
but i have financial problem ph34r.gif
anyone have any thing to say about financial aid?
my problem is that my family contribution is estimated to be very high (fafsa says so), and my family is not paying for it, so i have to pay for that plus my own too.

^

How high is it?

Mine was pretty high last year too & I have to pay for everything on my own as well!
The estimation of tuition is $23000 but you really don't use that much...
You just have to take out a bunch of loans!

My family contribution each year is supposed to be about 10,600 dollars.
Does UCI have good financial aid?

Mine was higher than that hahaha.
I think UCI has pretty good financial aid.
I'm gonna in pretty deep debt by the time I'm done but it's definitely been worth it.
I got ~$8000 from Cal Grants and took out the rest in loans.
I actually took out more than I needed.

I have a I think 6% interest rate which is pretty high I think but ehhh what can I do?
I took out all subsidized and unsubsidized loans which is a mistake on my part (it's better to take out subsidized).
I don't have a job yet but I'm looking for what (it's pretty difficult without a car).

It depends on what you do but for me, it does not add up to $23,000 a year like the estimation is (it's only a rough estimation but $23,000 will guarantee you for everything you might need money for).

It's about $3,000 a quarter x 3 = $12,000
Rent is $400 ~ $500 x 10 = $4,000 ~ $5,000

The rest is spending money on necessities, books, & food.
Depending on where you live freshman year (I definitely recommend living on-campus in the freshman dorms.. the experience I totally am jealous of since I live on-campus in Arroyo Vista)
For freshman dorms, you have to pay for food with a meal plan that goes anywhere from I think $400~$1000 a quarter, I might be lying though.
I spend about $100~$200 a month for food without the meal plan.

Yes you have to go to orientation, it is mandatory and it really is a fun experience IMO.
There's at least 10 different ones you can go to~
There are alternatives but it's all pretty much the same thing.
