I think it depends on which classes you're registering for. From what i've heard, registering for writing classes will be quite difficult in the later SPOPs.
On the analytical writing placement exam's website, it says that even if you are taking an exam in May, you still have to take the placement exam. It just gives you a better chance of fullfilling the writing requirement. But you missed it, so i'm not sure where you take the writing exam =(
You can read more about it here: http://www.ucop.edu/sas/awpe/faq.html, scroll down to the second question.
I signed up for spop on august 8th too

heys~ i`m going to be an incoming freshman next year and i have a QUESTION about
the housing application.... ><'
my friend and i want to dorm together, so we already requested for each other in the application.
but we`re confused on whether or not we need to answer EVERY SINGLE question with the same
answer? because there was a question that asked :
7. Please indicate your sleep habits:
Please select a response.
- Early to rise, early to bed - Early to rise, late to bed
- Late to rise, early to bed - Late to rise, late to bed
we have slightly different answers and we were both wondering if we have to put down the same thing?
because what if we don`t get roomed together but i didn`t put my own preference... ? (i hope that makes
sense, this is the only question we would answer differently.)
anyways, thank you ahead of time for the help.
my friend called the housing and they said try to match up your answer as much as possible to the person you want to dorm in with so me and my roommate wrote the EXACT same thing

I'm supposed to... but I also took the Calc BC AP test in May. So I'm kinda unsure about it. Does anyone know if I can cancel placement tests like a week before the date I sign up for?

I did not pass the UC Analytical Writing Placement Examination.
Still waiting for my AP English scores...
So I decided that I am going to take a English 101 class @ a community college.
I got level english 101 on the placement exam @ community college.
So if I take the english 101 @ a cc, does that mean I won't have to take the extra class that I would take if I did not pass the UCAWPE? Also, does that mean I won't have to take english 101 in college?!?!
Is taking the english class at a UC better? (maybe they have better teachers?)
I am confused.... Please help!

1. Score 3 or higher on the College Board Advanced Placement Examination in English (Language or Literature); or
2. Score 5 or higher on the International Baccalaureate Higher Level Examination in English (Language A only), or score 6 or higher on the IB Standard Level Examination in English (Language A only); or
3. Score 680 or higher on the Writing section of the SAT Reasoning Test, or score 30 or higher on the ACT Combined English/Writing test; or
4. Prior to enrolling in the University, complete with a grade of C or better a transferable college course in English composition worth four quarter or three semester units. (Once a student enrolls at a UC campus, courses from institutions other than UC may not be used to satisfy the Entry Level Writing Requirement.) Students who meet the University's basic requirements for minimal transfer eligibility, which include two transferable college courses in English composition, satisfy the Entry Level Writing Requirement; or
5. Achieve a passing score on the UC Analytical Writing Placement Examination (previously called the Subject A Examination).
Those students who have not met the requirement before entrance must satisfy the requirement before the beginning of their fourth quarter at UCI. Students who have not satisfied the requirement by that time will be ineligible to enroll for a fourth quarter.
Students enrolled in Essentials of Academic Writing (Humanities 20A-B-C-D) must enroll in Fundamentals of Composition with Computer Lab (Writing 39AP and Lab) immediately after they are authorized to do so by the Academic English/English as a Second Language Program. Students with a score of 2, 3, or 4 from the UC Analytical Writing Placement Examination are also required to enroll in Writing 39AP with Computer Lab.
The UC Entry Level Writing requirement may be met after admission by one of the following options:
1. Passing the UC Analytical Writing Placement Examination given in mid-May (and on subsequent dates) to all entering freshmen admitted for fall quarter, 2008 (see Placement Testing). Transfer students who have not satisfied the UC Entry Level Writing requirement should contact the UCI Composition Program Office, 420 Humanities Instructional Building; telephone (949) 824-6717.
2. Enrolling in sections of the Humanities Core Course designated "S/A." (NOTE: Students held for UC Entry Level Writing and enrolled in the Humanities Core must enroll in a S/A section of the Core Course during their first quarter. Successful completion of the writing component of these sections of this course with a letter grade of C or better will satisfy the requirement. Students who do not receive a letter grade of C or better in Humanities 1A S/A in fall quarter and who continue to be held for UC Entry Level Writing must enroll in Humanities 1B S/A during the winter quarter and satisfy the requirement by earning a letter grade of C or better.)
3. Taking Writing 37, 39A, or 39AP with Computer Lab and receiving a letter grade of C or better in that course.
The Pass/Not Pass grade option may not be used to satisfy the UC Entry Level Writing requirement.
Students enrolled at UCI may take only UCI courses in satisfaction of the UC Entry Level Writing requirement. Continuing UCI students may not take summer courses at another institution to satisfy this requirement.
Even if you're not officially enrolled at UCI until fall 09, you are only allowed to take the lower division writing classes at UCI unless you are a transfer student. And your question about UC professors being better ... it's the luck of the draw. There are some very awesome professors at CCs too.

btw Does anybody know what the readings are for Humanities Core 1A-B-C?
Somebody told me that the texts change every 3 years and that we're on the last year of the cycle?

Just take the ones that the website tells you to take for now. If you ever need a class that requires a placement test, like math, you can always take one later.

Yup, this is the last year of the Thinking, Making, Doing cycle. I'm too lazy to put up a full list of the books, but you can find them here: https://eee.uci.edu/programs/humcore/Student/index.html
Just click the tabs at the top that say Fall, Winter & Spring. It should be right there (:
I'm most likely selling the Humcore Writers Guide & the Humcore Reader, second editions. Gotta pick them up from a friend first ^^

eye8yourc00kies haha Woo is cute huh <3 Darnn SPOP 1? You can add a bunch of people on facebook (if you have one) and then find people going to SPOP 1. That's what I'm doing and friending a bunch of random people and talking to them : ) You should try it! haha I guess I'll see you on campus in September ; )

& I agree, friending people on FB that are in the same SPOP as you is a VERY good way of meeting them before hand. Two girls I got to know online ended up in my same SPOP, and even the same dorm I stayed in for SPOP (: Just get active on the UCI Class of 2013 group and you'll be meeting people in no time ^^~

LOL!
I went to visit UCI today with my friend, and it was so huge.
We didn't even go everywhere, the campus is like a wide, green open circle.
Hopefully I will be able to find the registration and not get lost :/ for orientation.
See you guys there :]
