Anyway, I was wondering.. what the heck is Writing 37? O_O How come you're not taking Writing 39?

Nerdyyy: 17 is fine for a Bio Major - I'm guessing Bio 93, Chem 1A, Bio 2A, Writing 39[a/b] and a gen ed? It might be a bit of a stretch to have 4, almost 5 [2A isn't really much haha] classes your first quarter, but if you schedule out your time right, you should be fine (: I found that I had the most trouble with Chem [and still do ;_;] but it all depends on the person. Like I mentioned earlier, the writing class will most likely consist of 5 essays, depending on who your instructor is. From what I've heard from other people, it's usually constant essay writing, with editing, rough drafts, and all that before you turn in a paper. OH, and Writing 37 is for people who didn't fulfill the entry level writing requirements .. Intensive Writing, and it covers Writing 39A & 39B.
I'm planning on taking 19 units fall ... but really thinking of dropping Bio 194S because I don't really need it. Anyone have input on how 194S is? I've had some friends say it's easy, while others stress like no other on it. I'm also way over units LOL, gonna be senior standing soon. I'm looking into moving my lab from Tuesday to Thursday 1-5 too, but right now, all the labs are full ): Makes me sad, haha.

Anyways, for chem, it says a 10th edition textbook is required, but will it matter if I get the 9th edition instead?

Don't buy the Chem textbook! If you're using the same book we used last year, by Spencer and some other people, it's an online book. Where did you find out you use a 10th edition textbook? I checked the bookstore and books for fall aren't out yet o_o Generally, getting an older edition isn't too bad - it might just be hard to find the right pages for assigned reading.
x StaR Aww :/ Maybe you can try doing the add/drop card? People are bound to forget to pay their tuition, so spaces WILL open up, just check periodically. So scared for it though - I did horribly in the G-Chem series >_< I'm changing majors, so I ended up taking more units than I wanted :/

When I went to SPOP, Writing 39b was already full so I'm not taking a writing class during my first quarter. I won't take HumCore though, because I'm a bad writer haha. Also, the workload sounds stressful.

Oh, then yeah, buy it. Some of the previous students might have used it [07-08] so you might be able to find the 9th edition for cheap. Like I said earlier, older textbooks aren't necessarily worse - it just might not have the same pages / practice problems. Try looking for the international edition of your text book too, they're paperback and might not be printed on high quality paper, but it's usually MUCH cheaper. I found my $200 ochem book for $20 x: Supposedly they changed the textbooks for the 08-09 year cause the Chang one got really expensive ... but I guess the online textbooks didn't work too well [hated that thing ... stupid wileyplus haha]. Thanks for that link though :3 I can go buy my chem books!

By the way, I don't think there's any summer homework which is STRANGE. I don't know what books I'm supposed to get either. There's not a lot to do this summer =/

Forevernever, I'm also taking Bio1A and I was wondering what you've heard about it. I know bio majors aren't supposed to take it (I'm uu) but I've only been hearing bad things about it. I still don't know why I signed up for it lol
I want my housing info now!! Oh and also, do people tend to not get themes/halls/dorms that they asked for?

kayla.: Hmm, Bio 1A? Not sure about that, as I've only taken the Bio93-94 series, along with Bio 2B. I think I had mentioned Bio 2A earlier, which is a one unit class for Bio majors ... And you get housing information around Labor Day weekend. Norcal kids get it later [;_; this was annoying LOL] but if you have a Socal roommate, they might contact you on FB. I found that it's a hit and miss with housing - I got the choices I wanted [Mesa, Double, General Interest], but I also know people who got triples but requested doubles, Middle Earth but requested Mesa ... I think that they DO try to match you up as well as you can, but there's always the possibility of not getting it. Annoying, but that's what happens :/
Katie3856: I got an older version of the book, which didn't have the online practice and whatnot, but I didn't find it too problematic. It might have helped that I had used the same book for AP Bio, and I had the online practice stuff there [Biology, Campbell, 7th ed]. UCI's custom edition simply takes the chapters out of Biology, Campbell, 8th ed that you use, and puts it into a smaller version of the textbook. The iClicker was .. around $15~20, I believe. Don't quote me on that though. I can't really remember, sorry :/
chikashi: Haha no worries. I was super scared of Humcore at first too [omg, the stress from the first paper and not knowing what to expect!] but it turned out to be really fun. Maybe fun isn't the right word, but engaging and definitely broadens your views about things. I actually never went to Humcore lecture [BAD EXAMPLE, DON'T DO IT LOL] other than the first few weeks and random days here and there [had TTH 9:30-10:20]. Don't be like me, haha, because most of the instructors for discussion will take midterm & final questions from lecture, and lecture notes don't always have everything you need.
FOR ALL YOU FIRST YEARS: Check to see if people are selling your textbook here CLICK ME!!! There's a good chance that it's cheaper than online, and you don't have to wait for shipping! Just be sure to read all the rules (: Goodluck! And feel free to PM me if you need anything XD
