Hello!
I got accepted to UCI and am very excited. I'm transferring from a community college.
So i was wondering about the food there. If you get the meal plan, is it worth it?
or is it better to just buy/cook your own food? I can't really cook, but I'm getting better. LoL

Where are you gonna be living? I think it's only really worth getting if you're going to be dorming, since you'll basically be living on campus and will have to eat all your meals there anyway. Otherwise, it's probably better to just cook yourself, unless you're into eating alone in the dining halls, hahah. Congrats on your acceptance, btw! Hope you enjoy your time at UCI biggrin.gif

I'll be living on campus... either in arroya vista or campus village. LoL alone in the dining halls? you mean people don't really go there to eat? hahaah
thanks. I look forward to going there.

I think they meant "alone" as in going by yourself there.

A vast majority of the people with meal plans are freshmen, so as a transfer student/non-freshman/not living in the dorms, you're going to have trouble finding people to eat with you. Without a meal plan, the only way they can get in is by paying, unless you use one of your guest swipes on them.

Has anyone here ever taken Philosophy 5 with Schwab or Chicano/Latino Studies 61 (For now instructor says staff). I'm thinking about dropping one but I don't know yet. I've heard mixed things about both classes.

Hello! Was wondering if anyone here is in the UCI CHP? I got in, but I'm still waiting on decisions from UCSD and UCLA. Initially, UCI CHP wasn't a good enough contender in my mind if I happened to get into SD or LA, but I was doing some random browsing on collegeconfidential forums, and came upon a topic that makes it seem like the UCI CHP's college and academic experience is almost equivalent, if not greater than, that of SD and LA's. This has got me seriously wondering where I might decide to go if I get normal acceptances to SD or LA. FYI, I didn't receive UCI Regent's though. I think if I did, the decision would be even more in UCI's favor, but as it is right now, I'm just going on CHP's perks. Thanks for any insight!

Hi smile.gif

I just recently got my acceptance letter from UCI and i was just wondering if irvine has a pharmacy program or school I got accepted into UCSD too but i'm leaning towards UCI more. Thing is, some people tell me irvine does have pharmacy and some tell me they don't. Thanks in advance!

^ Yes, UCI has a pharmacy program. (Pharmaceutical Sciences B.S)

http://www.cohs.uci.edu/pharmsci/pharm_und..._programs.shtml

Congrats!

kayla I don't know if it matters, but I had Prof. Schwab as a lecturer for fall quarter for Humcore (he lectured for Plato's Symposium and Aristotle's Ethics.. basically philosophy). I actually didn't really understand him because of his slight accent at first, but I liked his lectures. His online lecture notes are reaaaally long, but its really in-depth and informative compared to the other lecturers i had for humcore.

Maybe you could go to the lectures for both? and see which one you like better? D: Idk =[

For category 5 in the breadth requirements Mathematics and Symbolic Systems does anyone know what grade you need to pass your classes with or is there even a requirement? Is it like writing where we have to pass with a C or better?

So I'm new to this site and I would put this in a new topic but...I kinda don't know how to start one lol XD

I found out a few days ago that I got into UCI as a Freshman under my first choice major which I'm happy about.^^ It's always been on the top of my list of schools to go to.

But I'm starting to worry about what it will be like there. I know the school is predominately Asian which I have no problem with at all, but people are always telling me: "You're not Asian. They won't like you and won't be your friend. You'll be a loner."

Personally I don't think that that's true because when I went to this summer program at UC Davis most of the people I hung out with were Asian and even til this very day we still talk and meet up with each other.

So since you guys have first hand experience, are the people that go to UCI pretty accepting to befriending people of an ethnicity different from their own?

plug_in_baby - I've seen plenty of non-Asians & Asians get along, even to the point where one Asian is closer friends with a non-Asian than the other Asian down the hall, laugh.gif

Really, it just depends on your personality; we just all need to keep an open mind and we'll have a good time wink.gif

Congrats and hope you choose to become an anteater! smile.gif

You honestly have nothing to worry about. Some of my closest friends at UCI aren't Asian and I'm planning to room with them next year. It really is about personality and how you click with the person.

Well according to the Bio Sci office, you have to fill out this survey thing on EEE and then they'll try to accommodate you. But mostly they just said wait and see when grades come out, because people who failed Chem 1B will be dropped and then there will be open spots.

There is nothing much they can do. With all the budget cuts and all, UCI has been cutting the number of open classes. *sigh* I'm in a similar situation too. I'm a Bio Sci major and I need to finish my Chem 1 series my first year because it's to monitor the progression of the freshmen in the program. I'll get academic probation if I don't finish it by my first year. sleep.gif

I totally agree with this. One of the things I really like about UCI is how pretty much everyone I meet is very cool and friendly, Asian or not. plug_in_baby, I'm sure you'll definitely meet some great people at UCI!
