Eh? I've had my new laptop with Windows Vista on it since April and it's worked perfectly fine on the school networks and dorm internet.

Can you post the particular problem here? Cause I came across no problems when using Vista on campus.

^ooh haha there's no problem, at least not yet..since i haven't used my laptop in the dorms yet. But on their freshmen handbook/"bringing a computer to campus" it says that the campus doesn't support window vista yet. So i didn't know whether that meant it wouldn't work or not but since you said it worked fine then i guess there's nothing to worry about :)

Lol okay. I was wondering if they said anything specific cause I was like "o_o I don't remember running into problems."
I'm actually really curious as to what the makers of the freshmen handbook was specifically referring too... maybe they don't know that it works correctly? *shrugs* ahahha

for those of you who got into UCI, may i ask what was your hs gpa&sat score?

i'll be a senior and i'm planning to apply to UCI, just want to see what my chances are because i think my gpa is only like 3.4 weighted T_T and 1900 SAT, planning to retake that. I also have over 250 hours of internship and community service, not sure if that'll help. gahh i'm soo nervous!!!

I'm sure you're fiiine smile.gif the 250 hours of internship/com service will definitely look good! However, standards for acceptance into a university changes from year to year (usually making it more difficult for each new year)...but the changes are not that dramatic!
I believe my own HS weighted gpa was 3.7 with an SAT score of around 1800 and i don't remember how many hours i contributed to com service, but I don't think it was anywhere close to yours!
Good luck, and maybe see you at UCI next year~

ain't he the cutest

Your 250 hours of internship/community service will only help if 1) it's been done at a prestigious place (i.e. hospital, law office, police station, adult day care, you get the gist of it?)

I'm going to be completely truthful because I think it's the answer you want... >_> (i hope)
-What's your UNweighted gpa? Because that's what you put onto the applications. They don't give a rat's tail about your weighted gpa. It sucks. :[ I know.

If you go to collegeboard.com and look up UCI's stats, take a look at the GPA there. +/- about .3-.4 and that's about the maximum they'll exceed. The general people they except are within .2 of the GPA.

My UNweight gpa was 3.33 and weighted it was 3.75(or.76? I forget). My SAT scores were another sad sight at a horrid 1800.
Most people who I talked to who got in had around 1900+ on their SAT scores OR 3.6 gpa unweighted, so I think I was one of the lucky ones who slid by with their essay and extra activities.

I had community hours of 150+
Was president/coordinator of 1 major prestigious national club for 3 years
Vice president of a smaller but helpful club (American Cancer Society) for 2 years
Did ROP courses, certified in CPR
Internship at a hospital
Was on a sport team for 4 consecutively.
... I think that's it. Can't remember anything else. Probably didn't do anything else... sleep.gif

My main essay showed my extreme passion for people (cause I was majoring in Sociology) and how much I wanted to help them; it also showed my lyrical and poetry skills.
My other 2 essays showed how the stuff I did (i.e. internship) changed my views (not life, because that seems too dramatic haha).

....I can't think of anything else but don't hesitate to ask.

My GPA was a 3.9 weighted. UNweighted it was maybe a 3.7+ (I didn't take many APs at all so the weighted and unweighted aren't that different)
My highest SAT I score was 2130
For community service, the only thing I did was three years of Key Club

Don't worry too much; definitely retake your SAT I, and work really hard your first semester of senior year

they probably just meant that if something were to go wrong with your computer, like if cisco clean access agent isn't installing properly or your internet connection isn't working or something, they wouldn't be able to give you tech support.

Hi guys! I was just wondering... What's the "Jumpstart" program at UC Irvine? Becuz i got an email saying that i can apply for a position and they'll give me workstudy money. It gives us job descriptions, but it's kind of vague. Can anyone elaborate on what we do exactly? cuz i'm kind of interested in taking this job. THNX!! biggrin.gif

^^^ Yah, I was wondering about that too. I read some of the pages and the basic idea I got was that it was a one-on-one partner tutoring program with little kids of low-income families. Tutoring not only in school, I think, but in other areas too. I think they require you to do a 10/12-hour minimum/week thing if you're a college student. But in terms of experience, I'd like very much to hear from anyone who's done it.

Are there other workstudy jobs besides Jumpstart?

i have a quick question, i heard there was no wireless internet in the dorms. So do i have to bring an ethernet cable or just a router? or do i need both?

routers are optional since you'll be directly connected with your ethernet, but you can set up a router for wireless connection in the dorms. so you need an ethernet cable but not the router unless you really want to bring one.

i think brisa is one of the older dorms (phase 2?). nubes/palo have three floors while brisa only has two. the rooms aren't much smaller than nubes/palo though i think. and it's a lot closer to campus too. smile.gif

Just wondering if anyone else has gotten their housing information yet. I'm still waiting on mine, but a friend of mine is staying in a Phase 3 single in Middle Earth, so I'm curious about everyone else's status, particularly because I'm so anxious.

You're supposed to receive it by Labor Day at the latest, but you know how the postal system works... well, it doesn't really work. Just hold on until at least Wednesday. If you don't get it by Wednesday, then start to panic.
