i have a few questions(:
hope someone can answer them.
you can give your thoughts and opinions.
(im a junior by the way)
01. what sat reasoning score is pretty decent to be able to get into uci? what is the minimum sat reasoning score to not get rejected automatically?
02. do colleges look at 12thgrade grades? i heard that 12thgrade grades dont come out on the transcript.
03. what gpa is pretty decent to be able to get into uci? what is the minimum gpa to not get rejected automatically?

1) never taken the new SATs so no clue
2) colleges look at all your grades, including 12th
3) i guess a 3.60 is pretty decent to get into UCI... lets just say the higher the better. i suppose you would need at least a 3.00 to not be rejected automatically..
sorry i dont think i was much help ^^;;

1. I don't mean to offend, but it seems to me that a lot of people who got into UCI didn't get extremely high SAT scores. A lot of the people I talked to got 1600s-1800s or had friends who got those scores. No one can answer your specific questions though.. partly because the new SAT is still so new
2. yes. many students end up getting letters second semester of senior year warning them that they could get their admission retracted for getting Ds and Fs. usually they warn students that if they don't make it up, they can't attend the school.
3. you can't isolate GPA from everything else. anything above a 3.0 is fair game.
..you've asked very black-and-white questions that can't be answered accurately. don't forget that GPA, extracurriculars, essays, SAT scores, all play very important roles. ALSO, it also depends on what kind of person happens to analyze YOUR app. and it also depends on the rest of the applicants and where they fall on the scale.

1. I'd agree with what vc1188 posted, but if you look at the other two categories' scores on CollegeBoard, I'm pretty sure they're both over 600. So I'd say maybe >600?
2. Second semester senior year isn't THAT important, I guess, since acceptance letters are already mailed out. If you get D's or F's though, the school can take back your admittance since they DO check on your grades.
3. Look on CollegeBoard. They give averages/percentages.

I have a feww more though. ^^
These are more personal ones.
01. Im a junior now but I currently have a D/F in Chemistry. (hardest teacher ever) Since its now first semester, ill have to wait until im a senior to re-take this class, but the final report cards dont come out until February
But the problem is that applications to UCI are due on November. Would the college know that I am retaking the class? Is this D/F okay. Im getting low hopes on this because this happened last year too and i dont think colleges like it whether or not im retaking this class or not.
02. I checked on collegeboard and they said UCI looks at GPA alot., and they gave percentages of the applicants and where they stood on GPA: like 45% had a 3.75+ and such.
Im wondering if they look at each GPA every semester or they get an average of all the GPA's from 9-12th grade.
03. Are AP classes important & are they a must take? If so, is it okay to start doing AP classes in 12th.

01. They're obviously going to know that you're retaking it if you take it first semester of senior year. Because you enter in the classes you're taking first semester of senior year..
02. Er, average of 9th-12th grade GPA.
03. It helps I guess. I only took two AP classes (Spanish and U.S. Government) and I got in and also selected for Campuswide Honors Program. I ended up not even taking the Spanish AP test, and I got a 3 on the Gov. test hah.
why are you freaking out so much?

if possible, can you try to earn a "C" in your class or is the semester already over? And yes the college will notice that your retaking the class or not...........your GPA is calculated based on your 10-11th grade however they do look at your freshman and first senior semester grades but those are not calculated into the GPA. AP Classes are not important, they only earn you college credits(if u pass), it doesn't matter if you have 0

- you enter your nonweighted overall GPA when you're filling out the applications.
- i didn't take any AP classes. they're just there to get breadth requirements out of the way (but only if you score above a certain score). APs are just an easy way of getting units so you can register for classes earlier.
but really, don't worry too much O_O

1. Is it possible to double major AND minor in something? I know I should already know this but I'm confused =A=;; How much longer does it take to graduate? I've heard about one year, but I'm not sure.
2. Are you allowed to buy textbooks for classes you aren't taking? ^^; I want to work on some independent study because there's not enough time for me to take all the classes I'd like to haha..
3. How much extra does it cost if you want to take summer courses? Are these like normal classes or are they like "summer intensive programs"?
4. Do you have any problems connecting to the internet on campus with your laptop?
5. Do you go home over the weekend or do you stay on campus? I've heard UCI is largely a commuter school so most people go home for the weekend, but I was wondering if there's any people who stay on campus haha.
6. Is there anything you regret about going to UCI?
7. Does one dorm really have better food than the other, or is that just what people say? haha kind of irrelevant sorry
Thanks again for your responses and sorry for so many questions! .__.;;

1. As long as you get accepted into the major, you're okay to double major. Minors aren't really anything "official". It'll just show up on your diploma (I think?) when you graduate. I'm pretty sure you can double major and have a minor. I've heard of some double majors taking five years to get both degrees, but it really just depends on the person and how many units they take at once or if they take summer school or not.
2. You can buy whatever you want at the bookstore, but the books are pretty expensive.
3. It costs $1000+ to take summer school at UCI, taking summer classes at a community college would be a lot cheaper. There are two types of summer programs at UCI - 6 week courses or 10 week courses. If you take the 6 week courses, you can take two quarters worth of classes since there are two sessions (Summer Session 1 and Summer Session 2). Those, obviously, cover material at a faster pace than the 10 week courses. So if you don't want that then you can take the 10 week course (only one session is offered).
4. You shouldn't have a program connecting to UCI's wifi if you registered your IP address with them.
5. Parking lots at the dorms are SO empty on weekends. My hall had an average of 20/75(?) people that stayed over the weekends.
6. I have no idea. haha.
7. People say Middle Earth has better food because of Brandywine. I like their salads.

1. yes. when you graduate depends on what majors and minor you're doing and how related they are. also depends on if the majors/minors are in the same school. if they are, you won't have to take twice the school req's. you can still graduate in four years if you stay for summer sessions
2. you can buy whatever you want. it's the bookstore.
3. see t1ffiexp's post hah
4. no.
5. People from Norcal obviously don't go home every weekend. Socal students definitely go home on weekends. first year at least. by second year, less people go home as often.
6. not really. sometimes I wish I chose Davis simply cuz it's closer to home, but there isn't anything I don't like about UCI that makes me regret choosing it
7. from my experience, yes. I've eaten at Mesa Commons maybe 4-5 times, and every time, I found that the food wasn't as good as Pippin's. a few of my Mesa friends said the same thing. it's not a big deal though. everything is still good enough to eat

I went to look at Newport Bluffs, Newport North, and Baypointe with my friend, and I learned that it's pointless to really look until about two months before you plan on moving in. A lot of the Irvine Company apartments have a 30-day-notice policy, so they often don't even know when they'll have vacant apartments. It's a good idea to start touring just to get a feel for which ones you like though.
I'm still waiting for the EAP decisions, so all planning is at a standstill
ANYWAY! when is vendor fair coming?? I remember it came around Valentine's Day last year

That's what I was thinking, even when looking at rental-living.com, their available is either now or sometime in the near future. I guess I just worry too much over useless things. Or maybe I'm just trying not to study for midterms.
I don't think the vendor fair is coming this week.. did we get the Anteater Weekly email yet? I usually just skim over and delete those. =X Anyway, I hope it doesn't come anytime too soon, I've been spending too much lately. haha

Newport Bluffs was like.... HOLYCRAPSUPERNICE. definitely not within a reasonable price range for students or parents.
Newport North was the "worst" of the three I checked out. It resembles the apartments on/near campus (Stanford, Cornell, Columbia, etc.).. around the same price range. I like the location though, seems like it'd be quieter. Can't say much about the apartments themselves cuz they showed us the model apt, which is always nicer and cleaner

I don't know about other programs, but for HKU, the limit is 9. seems like for more popular schools/locations (i.e. Japan, London, etc.) a lot more people go.
Some programs require letters of recommendation, but for my program, it was just the application and a short 2-3 page essay. No interview.
