So I'm going to UCI
I've been there so many times for visiting, program training [red cross] and etc. that I'm getting bored of it.
I'm planning to dorm my first year and then commute later on. One reason why I don't like UCI is because its so damn close...and I'll be seeing a lot of the same people over again =[
Anyways, my major is biochem.
Anyone with that major here?

I really like Middle Earth. It houses less people so it's a smaller, more tight-knit community. It has more community-based activities and events. Mesa, however, houses a lot more people and is physically a lot bigger, so it's more dead. Plus, they don't have as many community-based activities. Another thing that doesn't seem to be a big deal but is, is dining. Mesa ONLY has Mesa Commons, which seems to serve worse-quality food (even Mesa residents agree). Middle Earth has two dining halls- Pippin and Brandywine. The food there is better in my opinion, and there are more options. Brandywine also offers take-out lunches on weekdays which is a nice plus.

and i'm confused about housing as well, i've never visited the campus so it's kinda hard to choose..
what's the difference between Arroyo Vista and Mesa Court/Middle Earth?
is it just that Arroyo Vista doesn't have dining?
also, they told us to choose "FYEP" for housing if you're going in undecided/undeclared..
do i have to choose a theme?...can i just....not? lol
ALSO! do you really need a car? cause they said you don't but i heard from EVERYONE else that you do.

Yes, you can request specific roommates on the online housing preference form. Be VERY VERY CAREFUL to put the exact same info as your friend does or else you probably won't get that person.
Also there have been cases where two people would put each other down and also put all the same preferences and NOT get each other. So it's not 100% guaranteed
Oh, and you said you wanted to skateboard/scooter to class.. this year they started a policy where you can't bike or skateboard on Ring Road or else you might get a citation. It's really lame and a lot of students have been trying to protest but to no avail, it seems. It's okay really, because the Irvine campus is really small. It doesn't take more than 15 minutes to get to a class for me.

Hi future anteater!
(and fellow suju fan. ^^)
Arroyo Vista is not right on campus.
You have to take a shuttle or drive to campus.
You can walk too, but I'm not sure how long that will take...
And yes, it also doesn't have dining.
BUT...it doesn't really matter, because you can dine at the dining halls in Mesa or Middle Earth, no matter where you live as long as you have a meal plan.
As for picking themes...
I don't know how it is for AV, but for Middle Earth and Mesa, you rank the themes/interests according to the ones you like best.
It helps them decide which hall to put you in, I think...
You don't really need a car.
Of course, it's more convenient, but you don't really need one.
Just make friends who do have a car. lol

No, bathroooms are NOT co-ed. ^^
There are doors on the bathroom stalls (I think that's what you're asking, right?).
The toilets are basically something you would see in a public restroom...except only used by you and your suitemates.
Also, they're cleaned daily, during the weekdays.

really??!! Me too!! I've seen the mesa suites and they were BEAUTIFUL!!! seriously! especially the outside where all the grass is trimmed really neat and stuff. also, its not so bad on the inside as well. But, one question, on average how many people can live in one mesa suite? This was really bothering me because i heard people say that up to 50 peeps live in one suite?!!

yep. the new student center is done i think. they tore down an ics building i think and they're building a newer one. the lecture hall there was old and crappy anyways. the building next to the construction site is new though, opened last quarter. the lecture halls there are nice.
there's plenty of other races at uci. maybe you just don't notice them? [shrugs]
