i was thinking of going to UCI this fall, and was wondering if there were any business related GE's or classes like finance, marketing, accounting. my major is business information management, so i know they have the basics for them. but are there classes where you can learn a little more than the basics if you get what i mean. sorry if i confused you guys w/my question.

there are lower division classes that are business related that cover your GEs. you will get more in depth as you go into upper division classes.

i saw that someone else had a posting for a room.
is it ok if i post too? unsure.gif

i have a master bedroom available in may. $750/month. PM me for more details haha
i dont want to sound like im advertising so i dont want to write too much.

i don't know about other classes...i know you can take stuff like econ. i took a management class last quarter as an elective. one GE class you might like to take isglobal entrepreneurship (international studies 189) ...i'm taking it this quarter. i've only been to one class but it seems quite interesting. the professors are "teaching us how to make money"...we're going to be writing a business plan as if we are going to open a business and present it. we're also going to learn how to evaluate companies to become better investors. i like the idea of the class because i'm getting some practical knowledge from it.

Has anyone been to the Freshia Market? I'm glad it's pretty close to where we are.

I found it on yelp: http://www.yelp.com/biz/freshia-market-tus...EQ/query:korean

I think it's an awesome gem happy.gif It's a Korean market. There are 3 korean food restaurants inside (I'm going to try the food there tomorrow). The prices are good. It looks like we can get soup+bbq beef for under $10.
One of the restaurants has black bean paste noodles (I've been wanting to try them since I saw Witch Yoo Hee).
The stuff (groceries) are pretty cheap (at least cheaper than the markets in LA)and there's a whole bunch of premade food we can buy (like side dishes and stuff).
I'm going to get kimbap tomorrow for lunch on Thursday happy.gif. Korean drama watching has really made me crave Korean food. biggrin.gif

OMG it's spring quarter already! it went by so fast!

so, they kick us out of the dorms on june 14th, but VDC does let us move in until june 20-something.
do i just take all my stuff home and bring it back??
i have a fridge and a lot of other things and i live 7+ hours away.... sad.gif

anyway, a lot of incoming freshmen are wondering about dorms..
~living in dorms is a lot of fun and you get to meet a lot people. BUT PEOPLE FORM CLIQUES QUICK!!! so be sure to get to know everyone during your first few weeks! it gets harder to make friends after that...
~im in a triple and i have 2 random roommates. but we all get along great and we hang out too. it's just important to respect each other and talk to each other!! it's probably not a good idea to bring our boyfriend over and make out in front of them (RUDE!) and over time you start to notice the small things too, like having their music on while you're studying, or talking on their phone really loudly while you're doing homework, slamming the doors, being dirty, their trash that never gets taken out, a small joke they make about you that was totally uncool, them turning on the lights at 7am which wakes you up when you dont have to get up til 10, the way their desk is messy even though it's not really your desk, the way they talk crap about someone in front of you, the way they dont shower for a week straight, the way their stuff takes up most of the room, etc. etc. BUT THANKFULLY all 3 of us respect each other and don't do that to each other, haha. but ive heard of other roommates who totally hate each other. just remember to respect each other and have trust! you're gonna live with each other for the next 9 months! most people are usually in the same situation as you!
~food is pretty good. especially times when you dont wanna cook for yourself and i've heard it's gotten better over the years. i personally like it. i know i'm gonna miss it next year when i move out. it's buffet style and lots of different varieties! (burgers, rice, salad, desserts, soups, popcorn, bagels, cereal, waffles, slushes, all kinds of drinks...and brandywine has SHRIMP TACOS YUMMMM!!!! there's so much to choose from!!)
~washer/dryers SUCK!! remember your quarters! for me, dryers usually take 3 quarters (1 hour) to fully dry your clothes.
~even though middle earth is pretty much ugly, i LOVE it. it's sooo much closer to campus! most people i know who live in middle like it cause it's soooo close, plus better food! trust me, after a quarter or so, you dont really care if it's not as pretty, you just care that it takes you only 5 minutes to walk to that class you have at 8am whereas it would take mesa ppl around 15 minutes, depending on which building they live in and which building the class is in. mesa people like mesa court too cause it's better looking and the rooms are more comfy and have better furniture too in their rooms too. i so jealous. (oh btw, mesa gets regular keys while middle gets card keys). and it doesnt matter where you live, BOTH places are pretty social and nice, just depends on your crowd.
~i would really recommend the dorms! just for experience. it's different for everyone! i had to get 20,000 in loans (no joke) this year! but it's worth it. (kinda)
~honestly, A LOT of people go home during weekends. most people live close enough to do so. which sucks. food tends to not be as good. and it gets boring if you dont have anything to do. but hey, it gets really quiet for those of you are worried about noise! get close to those who live in norcal if you're also a norcal/outta-state student.
~EXERCISE!!! since the food is buffet style, trust me, you're gonna eat a lot! but remember to exercise and not gain that freshmen 15! it's hard not to gain it!
~and there is an overwhelmingly huge amount of asians. but there are still a lot other ethnicities here. i have a lot of friends who aren't asian! and dude, it's not like asians have all the same personality or something!
~and JOIN CLUBS! they spoil freshmen so much. i'm gonna hate being a sophomore.

ok that was too much lol.

_shineXO1 - maybe you can ask a friend who lives close by if you can leave some stuff with them for that week and get it when you move in.

AHH cliques? It's not like high school is it? I'm trying to get away from that!! I mean I know everyone probably makes some sort of general group of friends, but everyone is still pretty "open" right? It is...different from high school, right?

Hehe just out of curiosity how do they spoil freshmen? ^^ I want to join a bunch of clubs based on the ones I saw on the website. :]
I am studying abroad in Korea for 2 semesters!
Read about it here (WordPress) or here (Tumblr).

thanks for the info. irvine seems like a great place to attend, but not totally sure if i'd want to go since i want to major in business, and there really isn't a direct business major.

I go to Freshia about twice a month to stock up on korean food (mostly kimchi and ramyun) or to go eat some korean food at the food court. The food is pretty good there, I usually eat at the center one, their combos are pretty good.

FYI, there's also a new market in Irvine called Zion, it's pretty nice, but I prefer Freshia over it, because it doesn't have a food court (at least when I went there) and I feel more comfortable shopping at Freshia (yes I'm being biased biggrin.gif)

We should all go take a grocery shopping 'roadtrip' to Freshia sometime, haha laugh.gif

- I just got back from class and on my way I saw all these news station vans parked by the Barclay Theater for live broadcasting, does anyone know what that's about?

i heard tech/engineering was a hard major to get into UCI with.. but does that mean that UCI just has a lot of people majoring in tech/engineering already?

can someone explain to me please.

also how come there's so many psychology majors?

UCI soompi meet @ Freshia?! hahah. Wow, I really want to check that place out now. smile.gif

The Olympic Spectacular thing was at the Barclay tonight, right? Maybe they were covering it because of the whole Olympics protests thing going on. wacko.gif

helloPanda! - There are quite a few people in engineering, but I'm not sure how that affects people getting accepted. IMO (I hope this doesn't offend anyone), the number of psych and sociology majors grow because most people who can't handle biosci/other majorschange their major to psych/sociology. ph34r.gif

yeah some people switch cuz they're "easy" majors. those are generally people who believe they can do whatever they want with a psych major after they graduate. some people, like my roommate, had no idea what she wanted to do switched around a couple of times and finally settled in psych thinking she can do whatever she wants with it. she wants to do marketing but has no marketing experience, or ever taking any marketing/business related classes.

but some other psych majors do want to go to grad school... in the end its a lot harder than others.

Hmm..iono if what i saw on the news last night related..and i only saw a part of the clip. UCI was on the news because of protestors that were related to the Olympics in Beijing...lol..China was advertising the Olympics with some performances of dances at a theater in uci? and with all the protesting, they protested on/near uci? I'm not quite sure..but all i know it had something to do with people against the Olympics in Beijing..sorry for such a vague description ><

My friend went to the One World One Dream "show" thing at Barclay, so I'm pretty sure ABC7 was there because of the protests taking place outside
