A four unit class is roughly 3-4 hours a week of lecture.
How many units are you planning to take?
My fall of freshie year, I took 17 units (NOT BECAUSE I WANTED TO!!
Very heavy workload.

You're majoring in psych? That's cool. You'll probably have it pretty easy then. My apartment-mate is a psych major and he NEVER STUDIES
About your question, some classes are ONLY major-specific, meaning you have to be in that major to take it. But, most of them aren't and anyone can take them

Lol!! Of course I go to UCI
I'm a 3rd quarter freshie, about to become a sophomore. I have no idea how hard it is to major in psychology, but my apartment-mate makes it look like you have all the free time in the world. He goes out all day, doesn't come back until like 2AM in the morning. Sometimes he's like "I'm bored. You wanna go eat?" and the rest of us are like "Uhh... we have quizzes and stuff. We have to study." and he's like "BUT I'M BOOOORED!!"
*sigh*
Life is hard when you're a bio-related major

hahaha sorry. yeah when I applied for uci, they wouldn't just let me go undeclared just by itself. I had to choose something. so i just chose social science/psychology. but i'm still hoping i can change my major to business admin. because i really like that. and when I was applying they didn't have that option. so yeah.
ick. im sorry about ur roommate there. I've heard that psychology is a relatively easier major compared to some others, but if you slack too much, the consequences would be the same as that of other classes. i'm sure if the guy is being as careless as you say, i dont have much faith in his grades being that great. hahahaha. well as long as your doing fine, its all good right? i've never been personally good with the science area. i mean i'm just mediocre at it. so wow. Bio-related major huh? that just in itself is pretty amazing.

I don't think taking summer session is necessary before your first year. I don't even know if you can? I don't know anyone who has.
I have so much free time; it's absolutely ridiculous. I'm a Psych/Social Behavior major and I am taking 20 units this quarter, and basically wake up, go to class, sit around, go to work, sit around... and eventually go to sleep. Two classes is below the minimum amount of units you'll need to take, I think... That is waaaaay too few classes. At least take three (12 units). Like I said, I'm taking 20, and I have all the free time I need. I'm bored a lot, actually.

but really, units doesn't tell you anything about the difficulty of the class - it depends on what class you're taking and who your professor is. I took 4 classes (bio93, chem1a, writing 39b, soc1) my first fall quarter and it wasn't that bad. and there's a 12 unit minimum for you to be considered a full-time student. haha.

On the other hand, my bio 38 class (mind memory and brain). I am working my ass off in. <- its supposed to be for non bio majors, therefore easy! . . ugh.
you're ideally supposed to space out your easy a courses throughout college to keep your gpa up. Rate my professors is so convenient.

If you think writing 39c is hard, just be glad you don't have humcore. That class is a killer.

39C depends on your teacher. haha. We didn't start writing anything until week 5 and that was only an in class essay based on the research we were supposed to do in the first four weeks. You have to do annotations and have a certain number of sources, but that depends on your teacher. I only needed at most 30 sources, while some people needed more than 50.
and Creative writing fills up really quickly since there are only a few classes, right? So unless you have an early reg. time, you'll most likely have to waitlist.
