Can someone please comment on the distance from CV to ARC? Looks like a 45 min walk from the campus map, or do i have my scales mixed up?

Quick question, I have the option of taking fiction (the easy way out) or writing 39 C. . from what I hear, is definitely a pinkberry. But I have a feeling I might need the research skills later on. Does writing 39C help you later on with upper division writing classes?

My friend took Fiction last quarter.. the TA kept saying her stories weren't good enough, lol. It seriously depends on who your TA is, but she ended up crying and getting a B =X

The thing about the arc is that it's not on the main campus, but CV is.. and on top of that, it's on the opposite side of campus. If you're walking, it would probably take ~45 minutes (maybe 35-40). If you're going on weekdays though, there are shuttles that can take you to the arc.

Another question for you guys.

To fulfill the Breadth 4 requirement with Humcore do you have to take the whole 1A-B-C series. And does each class have a separate writing component. 24 units seems like a lot just to satisfy some requirement.

Why would you take HumCore only partially? And it doesn't just satisfy "some requirement," it satisfies MANY requirements. Here's the breakdown:

I-A: Lower-Division Writing (2 courses)
Humanities 1A-B

IV: Humanistic Inquiry (3 courses)
Humanities 1A-B-C

VII-A: Multicultural Studies (1 course)
Humanities 1C

Taking three courses to fulfill six courses' worth of breadth is pretty damn awesome

Thanks for the tip, but the thing is I'm a Bio Sci transfer student from CC and i have enough worrying about upper division Bio classes and labs without piling on the units. I already have categories I,II,V and VI completed just from looking at the classes I've taken and comparing them to their UCI equivalents at assist.org

Let me lay this on you tho. How bout taking African American studies 40 A-B-C to satisfy the 3 category IV classes and also 2 category VII-A classes. They don't have a separate writing component, so it works out to 12 units.

Again, thanks for all the help.

Ohhh, it's a totally different story if you're a transfer. I thought you were an incoming freshman.

I lived at CV last year and yes, the arc is a long, long walk. Use the shuttle if possible. Also, CV has a gym inside their little student/convenient center that has weights, treadmills, and a few other exercise machines. I feel a lot more comfortable there and it's way closer (of course). I believe it's open until 10 or 12 every night? I can't remember anymore.

Thanks.

I saw pictures of the CV gym on the housing website, and it didn't look that big, so i was concerned about over crowding.

The darn power is out.

My laptop is running on battery power and I'm stealing wifi from who knows where.
It's out in the Science Library, Rowland Hall, and Campus Village.
Is it out anywhere else?

VDC Norte, and VDC are fine. I think langson is ok too. I think its a power outage only for the buildings on the same power grid.

Random rants...

I'm still looking for a single room to live in during Summer and 08-09. I've e-mailed at least 10 different people and the only one who got back to me happened to be a creeper when I checked out the place. :\ I wish people would just delete their listings if they found someone already.

And I want to know my aid package already. sad.gif

I was totally not aware of the power outage until I went to Langson at like 4:30 and there was a huge whiteboard near the entrance stating that a lot of the computers weren't working.

There are a lot of people at VDC looking for people to sublet their rooms for the summer. But as for the school year... yeah I've heard it's never all that easy to find a single room x__X GOOD LUCK!! I hear Craigs List actually has a lot of UCI apartment listings. But yeah, the creeper factor is always there..

and omg what happened when you checked out the creeper's place? ph34r.gif

I'm actually not too fond about VDC/Norte because their internet's unreliable anyway...lol. But yeah it's been such a pain in the ass looking for a place it's ridiculous. I just want to live my last year in peace with more privacy. sad.gif

And yeah...about that guy. Well, I never really wanted to live with other males but I was looking for just about anything. It was a VERY nice condo in a gated community close to school, and I definitely had to check it out. I figured that I wouldn't have to worry about the guy since the other girl living there was his girlfriend.

Anyway, I went by myself almost right when he called me back...I simply thought it was a great deal and wanted to be sure I could secure it ASAP in case I really liked it. Knocked on the door and met the guy...He seemed nice, but for some reason I already got an awkward vibe. His girlfriend wasn't home yet. He showed me the whole place, and first of all, the 'room' offered to me wasn't even a room. It was a small den (around 7x7 ft) that had a curtain as a door (which he 'forgot' to mention). What's more was that this den is RIGHT next to the front door so my privacy would be nonexistant. At that point I just wanted to leave, but to be courteous/respectful I took the tour just so I could think of some excuse to tell him. I pretended to be interested in the washer/dryer that was there and right when I turned around I caught him staring at my ass...He wasn't even slick about it either because his head was tilted to the side too. I pretended not to notice and right after that he just stopped talking altogether...

I paced myself to the door and told him that I was still weighing my options so I'd call him back if I was still interested...yeah right...

Thanks! I'll check that out. Hopefully I won't have any more bad experiences...hahaha.

And if anyone has a place or knows of one, let me know! I'd trust Soompi folks over random Craigslist people anyday, lol.

OMG. FREAK!!! I don't know, if you're going to be living with strangers, you should stick with girls T___T

Also, have you tried zotters.org? The people who post there are probably more trustworthy too

Is it a good idea to invest in a house near UCI? How many people would actually want to live maybe 15 mins away from school?
