so... I'll be a third year at an art school, and my desktop just isn't cutting it.

I've found that my traveling lifestyle requires a laptop, and I haven't been up to date on computer technology for a long time. I was hoping some of you with better up-to-date knowledge could point me in the right direction.

Some of the things I need in this laptop are at least a 1.8ghz cpu, 5400rpm minimum, a nice graphics card capable of quick rendering in photoshop and possibly some video (no integrated graphics cards), at least 256mb of graphic memory, and at least a gig of RAM.

Uh.. so I realize I've left a lot of other things out, I guess this is where I ask you all to fill in the blanks. Price I'd really like to keep below $2,500, and the less the better... I do have a budget, I just want to know what a reach would be.

Any comments and good things to know would be greatly appreciated.

well i'm not an expert on this, but if graphics design is your main thing, I say Apple is the way to go....and with that budget you could probably afford one. But if you're looking for ultimate savings, you could probably match your specs with an HP or something.
