Like, you have one group of people just casually talking about it, and then you have another group cosplaying.

Freak = thinks anime is their life, they will marry Inuyasha, will go out sometime to eat ramen with Naruto, own ninja skillz, pwn someone with a zanpaktoh (sp? D: ), put excessive amounts of hairgel to look like Cloud, wear skanky clothing to make themselves seem like a "virginal schoolgirl", totally have alchemy skillz like in "Hah-gah-nay Ren-keen-juuuht-sushi", etc.

But I guess a fan would be a die hard fanatic. Someone who dedicates a lot of their time into all things anime. A casual fan is someone who enjoys it, watches it, even collects merchandise, but I guess it all depends on your level of, err, "commitment".

Alone; in five minutes I'll be safe at home...

Fan = appreciates anime w/o having to completely convert their looks to an anime character?
Freak = thinks anime is their life, they will marry Inuyasha, will go out sometime to eat ramen with Naruto, own ninja skillz, pwn someone with a zanpaktoh (sp? D: ), put excessive amounts of hairgel to look like Cloud, wear skanky clothing to make themselves seem like a "virginal schoolgirl", totally have alchemy skillz like in "Hah-gah-nay Ren-keen-juuuht-sushi", etc.

and then i know a girl who watches it on a laptop at lunch EVERY DAY at school, quotes her favorite characters in Japanese even to people she knows don't know any Japanese, says she's in love with xxxxx character, and memorizes the "birthdays" of all her favorite characters so she'll remember to sing the happy birthday song and be even more hyper than usual on those days. she also memorizes their "favorite foods." 0_o that, my fellow soompiers, is what i would call an anime freak.

Anime Freak=Someone who bites your head of for not saying the names correct ex: saying Sagat SA-GET
and not SA-GOT or Ryu Rhy-You and not Ree-You, when people don't kiss animes behind they wanna drop kick you and hang you on a cross. When people fantasize about getting it one with anime girls with big boobies and go on and on and on for ages about how hot they are and get boners everytime they watch the Fatal Fury movie. People who eat sleep drink Pokemon..stuff like that. Oh yeh and if you call anime a cartoon, your life is in Danger
Trust me I have encountered them too many times in my life.

They'd always go, "Blah blah blah, sushi, I'll give you some, blah, Pocky yum, and I'll bring some ramen too!"
And then this girl said, "What's ramen?"
And another would burst out, "OMFG YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT RAMEN IS WHAT KIND OF ANIME FAN ARE YOU?!"
And I'd cower.
