I feel bad for my pre-med/hard science major friends...they got it really bad so I guess we can consider ourselves "lucky".

There is a good chance that you'll pay a good buck for a psychology book (or two) and you might shell out some money for an American Government textbook as well, but for writing and English, you'll probably be required to purchase a bunch of small paper back books (novels, classic plays, poems, etc). For a writing class, be damn sure that you'll be required to buy a MLA book (if you already have one lying around from high school, then you're set).
A rough estimate off the top of my head would say that you're looking down the barrel of ~$300, $400 tops.
As long as you are not taking graduate level courses where there are 4 different major textbooks required that all cost more than $100 used, then you don't have all that much to worry about. Consider anything less than $500 a good price for a semester's worth of books. I know plenty of schools where people pay up to a grand for books.

For the three books you've listed, you're looking around $500-$600.
It will also depends on your college.

Anyway, I got some of my novels from the library (just borrowed it). The editions weren't always the same, but sometimes that doesn't matter. And I got some used. I ended up spending about $500.
