I'm also a polisci major...polisci/anthropology double major to be exact. I spend around 800-1000 on books per year. my freshmen year I spent about 1000, but that's because I took some psych courses that required thick-arse textbooks. I find that my classes don't require a lot of thick textbooks, but small books/course readers that cost "relatively little"...but multiply that by 15 four times and you'll see a major drainage in your bank account!

I feel bad for my pre-med/hard science major friends...they got it really bad so I guess we can consider ourselves "lucky".

i'm a science major and i think this semester my books will cost about $200-250, which is pretty good. last semester i think i spent about $400. shop around and look for the best deals and definitely get used books. most of the time you can get one edition older for like, 70% less, and one edition isnt that much of a difference anyway.

yeah, about $600 if you buy them in the bookstore... buying online would help reduce the cost though...

It really depends on the school that you attend. At my school, paying more than $400 is pretty bad. However, I work at the Boston University bookstore, and I have seen courses that cost that much.

There is a good chance that you'll pay a good buck for a psychology book (or two) and you might shell out some money for an American Government textbook as well, but for writing and English, you'll probably be required to purchase a bunch of small paper back books (novels, classic plays, poems, etc). For a writing class, be damn sure that you'll be required to buy a MLA book (if you already have one lying around from high school, then you're set).

A rough estimate off the top of my head would say that you're looking down the barrel of ~$300, $400 tops.

As long as you are not taking graduate level courses where there are 4 different major textbooks required that all cost more than $100 used, then you don't have all that much to worry about. Consider anything less than $500 a good price for a semester's worth of books. I know plenty of schools where people pay up to a grand for books.

you can save about half, or maybe even more, the amount of money you spend at a bookstore if you were to buy online (from my experience)..depending on the book though i suppose

Last year, I spent about $700-$800 worth of books.
For the three books you've listed, you're looking around $500-$600.
It will also depends on your college.

If I bought my books all new and from the school bookstore, it would have cost me ~$600. I'm an English major. But it was first year.

Anyway, I got some of my novels from the library (just borrowed it). The editions weren't always the same, but sometimes that doesn't matter. And I got some used. I ended up spending about $500.

So far for 4 classes I have spent 303$. I recommend buying books online rather than from the bookstore. addall.com is a great website.

lmao with those classes, I say about 400-500 bucks.
I think there are sites where you can buy used college books for cheapand even out of country that sells these books for even cheaper. I forgot the urls but I'll post it up when I remember em.

freshman year i spent like $1000 on books. it was crazy. i learned after my 1st yr in college....either buy books off upperclassmen, or online. sometimes, you could just go to the library, grab the textbook you need, & just photocopy the pages that you need.
