i'm so stressed. i've got a $17,000 scholarship but I still have like $12,000 left to pay.

so question for Federal stafford & PLUS loans:
do you have to repay them as you go? or can you start paying after graduation?

Stafford is paid after graduation and you need to start repaying the PLUS within sixty days after the last disbursement of their loan. I'm not sure how this all works, but I've already applied and was approved for them. So if anyone has some more info, I'd appreciate it. smile.gif But I'm depressed... I have SO MUCH to repay because I'm depending a lot on loans.

the PLUS loan is really the worst loan option in a standard financial aid package.

yeahhh i'm like really depressed too. I'm sure we're over reacting though. everyone has told me that repaying student loans is super easy once we graduate.

hmm, well stafford loan also differs from subsidized and unsubsidized. for those who don't know, subsidized means that the government will pay for your interest while you are in school, military leave, or serious illness (i think). unsubsidized means that your interest accumulates while you're in school and you have to pay it off eventually.

oh, and i had a perkins loan, but luckily USC took that off when i notified them of my hospital scholarship. i was scared that they were going to take it off of my grant money.

I have the Stafford IDAPP Loan. What a way to live in debt, but well worth it for College. You pay after graduation, it's in all the paperwork they send you. A lot to read yeah, but you should.
Sometimes you have to look at the past to determine what you truly want to become.
Just make sure to look forward again.

^yea my school is like $35,000 and my PLUS for the 1st year is gonna be 7000... and sub stafford is like 2000... :`(

grrr! but i heard it's the best we can do other than apply for other out-side scholarships which are very competitive yet very little rewarding ($500-$2000). Other non-government sponsored loans have higher interest rates and a lot of times require you to start paying before you graduate. OMG!

I'm so confused about all this. I still need like five grand to pay for school and I don't know if I should get a PLUs loan or a private loan. Which is better?
I don't want to bother my parents too much though I'm listed as their dependent so I didn't get as much money as I could have.
I'm stressed. Can you tell this is my first time? smile.gif

^Private loans are no-no.
Honestly, go with the federal loans if you really have to choose.

One of my friends relied on private loans and she is having the tougest time to pay off since the interest is ridiculous.

My school starts in mid september. Will there be enough time to apply for a PLUS loan? It seems a lot hard to apply for than a private. I'm sorry, I losing it here.

Look into both for now and call your school if you are approve for it.
