I got through high school with a lot of procrastination, and I always pulled off good grades. But will procrastination (putting off writing assignments until the night before or cramming for tests) work in college? Any advice/stories would be appreciated smile.gif

No
If you don't prepare for your exams early on, prepare to fail.
Uni is not like HS, cramming the course content the night before is definitely not a wise decision.
I personally haven't tried leaving studying till last minute, coz im the type of person that freaks out easily when it comes to exams.
Keep up with the workload during the semester, so you won't get overwhelmed the night before the exam.
If you prepare early on, the night before should just be a quick skim through the notes, no hardcore studying involved.

Yeah. You can do that at high school but not at uni. I guess I was too used to studying the night before so I didn't really study consistently through the semester and that resulted in really dodgy marks in the end. I actually neglected this unit totally for most of the semester, so in the end I screwed up big time. Trying not to do that this semester.

Definitely don't try to study the night before. There is just too much material to go over. Start at least a week before the test.

Just think about all the money that's going into your eduction... but I guess that only works if you're paying for your tuition and not your rents... happy.gif;;

you can put off writing assignments til the night before, but i wouldn't suggest cramming for any [major] tests. the workload is significantly bigger, so even if you do put off anything until the last minute, be prepared to work your butt off tongue.gif

I usually start studying 2 days before the exam. For papers, I start a week before it's due. I procrastinated once for a 5 page paper...lost my precious 5 hours of sleep. >.<

Studying or writing papers the night before isn't the best idea if you're looking for good grades. My old roommate tried to pull thatoff and she ended up failing most of her classes. Like everyone else said, Uni workload can't compare to h.s. workload. You might be taking 5 classes but once you see amount of material you have to study you'll realize one night isn't enough time. Sometimes 3 days aren't enough time either. I freak out when I have exams so I study about a week or so ahead of time. And I try to do papers as early as possible.

it really depends on each person. everyone is different.

If you are someone who sleeps in class/don't listen in class/skips class, then no you cannot procastinate when it comes to exams/tests.
My roommate are one of those people who sleeps in class fairly often. He doesn't have the ability to learn quick and memorize so he needs at least 2-5 days ahead of time to study or do a writing assignment.
On the other hand my brother literally did not go to one of his classes for the whole semester but he studied for his exams about a week before. He passed that class with a B without even turning in any homework. However, he's not the average lazy guy because he can study on his own. I don't recommend anyone who doesn't have the motivation to study on thier own to do this.

If you are someone who listens in class/understands the material/just plain talented, then feel free to procastinate.
i still procastinate my as$ off. FYI i take 4-5 classes a semester (as recommend). I usually get A's and B's, so far only one C becuase I hate history to the bones. But I guess here's another good example...
I took Health Science with my roommate last semester. We both hate going to class but we go most of the time for participation points. When it came to writing papers we always put it off until the night before. I have no trouble with it but he always needs help. When it came to exams it was the same thing. We both stay up til early morning about 2..3...4? doing study guides. I usaully memorize everything I read when I read it and then do a cramming session 30 minutes before class and get a passing grade (usaully A or B, sometimes C depending on the amount of material and style of test). But my roommate can't do this, he has trouble memorizing everything in a matter of one night.

Lychee's way is also another way to do it but it takes time to adjust to that. I personally will never be able to do that but it's a good idea to keep up so you don't have to cram and panic later

So my advice to you is to find out how you learn and how fast do you learn materials. Different people have different abilities. But yes, everyone is right about Uni not being like HS.. it's a lot more work 4 classes in a university can be like 7 or 8 classes in high school.. maybe even more depending on the class and teacher.

You might also want to check out ratemyprofessor.com before you sign up for classes so you will knid of know how the teacher is like.
