Okay, ever since I got into the boyband craze, I noticed that atleast ONE member gets one single TINY line, while another member might have the whole song. Kinda like H.O.T., poor Jaewon he got tiny parts! And apparently in alot of songs he had no part at ALL! (Do or Die, even though it was Woohyuk's song) and his OWN written song, he didn't even have more then two!

Then Shinhwa's Andy, and sometimes Eric, I could barely recongize Andy's voice rapping in the background in Perfect Man which lead me to thinking he had no part at ALL.

The same goes for Blackbeat and Super Junior, although you can kinda understand on the 13 member thing But they let the good looking people get into the spotlight TOO often...

But if you notice, hate to admit it but DongBangShinGi has really even parts, everybody gets a little bit of something or a lot of something. But in groups like Shinhwa and H.O.T. either Kangta/Heejun or Hyesung/Minwoo get HALF/3 quarters of the song.

Don't you think that's really unfair? And why do you think they do that? Sometimes it's talents, but it looks as if SM(the groups I talked about were ALL SM) wants the good looking people to be in the spotlight.

lol.. but really.. the first time i see the group , i was thinking, "wow, this group doesnt need any backup dancers" ..
my friend who isnt a kpop lover even asked me questions like, "backup dancers for kpop singers also sing?"

to make a boyband rise nowaday, u need more than eye-candy so that's when members like hyesung, ryeowook comes in.. they are there to do the job anonymously (somehow)

any group nowaday have those type of situation but it's so ridiculously obvious for suju ..
sometime i think talented singers have more lines but the camera is on the popular faces...
they jump in the face of the real singer for like 2 seconds then to the eye-candy... so sometime it make like the "popular-face" have more lines..

i feel so sad for the singers in the group who is there to sing.. but get treat like backup dancers..
it's really unfair.. but ii think it's only because we fangirls care more about looks than voice (some of us) looks led us into the band THEN we look over singing ability..
imagine all singers in SUJU have equal camera-time.. then we dont even notice kibum, shiwon, heechul.. anymore and wont be as crazy as we are now..

WOW! I understand how you feel, in Super Junior SHINDONG doesn't even get any parts at all! =[. I love that guy! He's so hilarious, but I don't even hear him sing at all. I only heard him rap in one of their most recent videos! It makes me sad, probably I didn't notice cause I'm too DBSK obbessed but now that i think about it. YEAH! POOR SHINDONG AND THE REST. I want them to be noticed for the talent they own, not for their looks =[. Thank you for posting this up. INTERESTING INFO!

Shinhwa is a really hot group...all 6 of them are good looking i think..but when they sing..its like..i cnat really feel them singing together..
its like hyesung, dongwan, minwoo sing their lines..which is like most of the song already
then andy, junjin, eric are just standing there...holding the mic..
its sad...but yeah~
even now..i still dont know if Andy can sing...we never really get to hear him T_T

and Super Junior..but 13 members..hard to give spotlight to all of them...but yeah
in every perf...ShinDong is like non-existant...it's so sad~
but AT LEAST..he does most of the dancing in like special stages or sumthing~

i see where your coming from, but its the same in the states when boy bands were big: like Kevin and Howie (to some extent) from Backstreet Boys, Joey and Lance from Nsync, Drew and Jason (i think) from 98 degrees, none of those guys got the same attention as the main singers like Justin and Nick. I think the reason is because of what you said: looks and talent, but also I think their music companies look to who in the group is easiest to market. I mean, don't we all agree that Justin is the best looking/singer in N Sync?? With that said, why not let Justin get all the attention if he attracts the fans..

Yeah, I feel the worst for Shindong =S I've never seen anything like it, even if Jaewon and Andy don't get enough lines they atleast get solo screentime every so often/alot! you know where i'm getting at? But ShinDong, I think they just don't want to give him screentime/lines because he's *whispers* chubby. It's not a bad thing about being chubby but it's the thing holding him back from getting screentime although I think it's cute that there's SOMEBODY DIFFERNET. =(

andy got more parts after he became popular...and what can u expect from suju? the songwriter must go crazy trying to write a song for 13 people...and if everyone got a solo than theyd all only sing for like 3 seconds...but i like shindong too...i think hes funnier than a lot of people out there and a bit underrated in gag

I think a lot has to do with who can sing, is good looking, and the most marketable (popular).

If you are rapper in the group then you aren't going to get much of a chance to sing. You usually stay as a rapper unless there is a urgent need to suddenly make you into a vocalist; only then will you get singing lessons to improve your voice.

Shinhwa - Andy was like the invisible member for the longest time. Now that they have moved to a new company we are finally hearing Andy rap more. Jun Jin has finally improved in his singing.

Fly to the Sky - 1st and 2nd albums Brian didn't sing as much as Hwanhee did.

S.E.S - it was more evenly spread, but Bada always had the bridge parts. I felt Shoo didn't have as many parts, but she was the weakest singer out of the group.

yeaa i mean dont you notice that usually the more "popular" members get longer lines. is it just me but in suju i think ryeowook or yesung both sing BEAUTIFULLY but they dont get many lines. i mean in the past couple songs i guess ryeowook is getting some attentnion, but members like SHINDONG and YESUNG still havent hit the spotlight.

oh and for shinhwa members, shinhyesung is the lead vocal, so i guess they need him to sing more and support the song. and in their around 3rd or 4th album, shinhyesung barely got any solos. mostly dongwan. [just my opinion] after shinhyesung released his solo i think he's been getting more attention and a bit more fame. i have never heard andy sing, and thats a shame. i know junjin can somewhat sing, i heard him on this looong ago show. but he never gets singing parts in the songs, which i think is pretty unfair. or at least i havent heard him singing. i think the singing part is all pretty equal now, but the rappers dont get much of the dough, esp in their BALLADS. rappers+ballads=no singing time.

for HOT, i personally havent ever really listeneed to them except for the song CANDY, so i cant really say anything.

DBSG IS VERY EQUALLY SHARED. they all sing beautifully. Yes, even yunho. he raps AND sings. listen to their song "Promise" he is veryyyy good. haha jestt makin sure. theres nothing really to complaing about DBSG. i'd say they are off alright.

so i guess it's true what the other people have been saying, like. sm focuses on POPULARITY and good looks.

but i'm guessing DBSG is mainly all equally liked? in my opinion since they usually all have pretty even parts :]

well, it's realy more like who stands out more and who can sing the best.

if the singer has a really outstanding personality, they would get more lines cuz they'd be more popular.
and H.O.T was really not fair with the lines. jaewon and woohyuk shared the raps while everyone sang the majority.

with shinhwa, i think junjin can sing better than before and is now getting more lines. like in their new japanese song.

and dbsk is pretty much even cuz they sing accapella, so they all have equal lines, but junsu changmin and jaejoong get the most lines cuz they can sing better, sorry, yunho and mick...

Thanks for mentioning this. I immediately thought of Shindong and Yesung when I saw the topic. Particularly Yesung. It took me a while to notice that he's got the best voice in SuJu (now that KyuHyun's here it may be a tie). Why did it take so long? 'Cause you barely see him on screen. I think he is just not cutesy enough like Donghae, Heechul or Eeteuk and so he doesn't get screen time. But honestly if you see their live performances he is 98% of the time singing on key and performing well. Also he's the one with the big background notes at the end of their songs to finish them off with a bang (or Ryewook) but you never see this. He's got quite a strong voice.

definately what people have been saying about Shindong from Super Junior. i mean did he even have a line in "Twins"? i didn't even see him in the music video. also what was up with kyujong in ss501's warning video? everyone got to seeing the parts with the good melody while when it was kyujong's part, it seemed like all the members left him (it was part of the dance routine) and he looked so sad singing his only couple of lines. jeez. so unfair. and also Buzz. i thought it was Buzz who was supposed to sing their songs, not Min Kyunghoon and the boys. i agree it's usually the most popular member who sings the most lines or gets the catchier parts in a song.

I agree, I feel bad for Yesung. Sometimes, when it is his turn to sing, they wont even give him a close-up. During the latter part of their song, they should focus the camera on Yesung since he usually does the ending background notes. He is a bit underrrated.

same with shindong, in their MV's you barely see him. Its good that they gave him a part in Dancing Out but he should be given more and give him some singing part. I heard him sing live in a show before and he sang pretty well.

JaeJoong is lead vocals and the other members have admitted before that Junsu is probably their best singer, so I think that's why. Yunho and Micky have the lower voices, but most people have to agree that YunHo is more famously known for his dancing, not his voice, so that may also be a factor. Even when you wikipedia the boys (DBSK) it says that YunHo's specialty is just dancing (>_<) where as the other members included singing in theirs.


I think SuJu has too many unneessary members and so that's why they really do get like 5 second parts, most of the time it seems even less. It seems to me like some of the members like SiWon, Eeteuk, Donghae and HanKyung do much of the singing, most are just background dancers. Eunhyuk does most of the rapping, with some assistance from KiBum at times, but KiBum, to me is there just because he's great eye candy. If anyone has seen the "Show Me Your Love Video" with DBSK and SuJu, he gets a lot of camera time but no solo parts. I love KiBum and he's one of my favorite members, but even I have to admit that he's mostly eye-candy.

DB/SHINHWA- i think they're based on their singing ability....hyesung with such a beautiful voice of course gets most of the line... dongwan and minwoo sing....and i believe junjin used to rap too but he's singing more now?? i <3 junjin's voice better than minwoo's tho ^0^ Andy is a rapper...it's understandable that he doesn't sing much....but Eric usually sings most of the rap lol sorry for andy but i think he's just there for his adorable-ness lol

dongbang yes su and jae sing more than the rest...cuz they're just...better singers???..but the other boys sing the background harmonies too while the lead sings....also in Kotoba Wa iranai yoochun is the lead and same with Changmin in Somebody to love

but with SJ i think it's based on popularity....cuz imho ryeowook and yesung and kyuhyun are the best singers....but they get the least attention...like in U they only have one line while Shiwon and Donghae both have two...if not more...

I'm glad someone else besides me is also thinking about this...

I already mentioned this in the SuJu thread, but they assured me that even tho they don't sing, they stil sometimes contribute in other ways. It was sorta getting me frustrated too.

But I've also noticed that in some songs (i.e. suju) some members will sing more, but in others, other members will sing more. I think it depends on the song you look at too...

I'm sure there's a better reason than popularity though, even though I still think it's a pretty big factor. Like in H.O.T.'s Candy, I can make out Moon Hee Jun and Kang Ta's voices, but can't hear some of the others. I initially thought that because the song was sung at such a high key that some of the voices couldn't handle that pitch so they left them out...
