ur gonna feel kinda (T_________T) when u see that they give you a whole blank page to fill in w/ clubs, activities, leadership roles, etc. and you have nothing to put

try doing one that you have some sort of interest in so that you're getting something out of it.

anybody can join clubs so unless you're the president or vice president or any other title, its not really important. The colleges want to see you being active in the clubs by being president or somewhat

either gain some sort of leadership position in a club, or do something notable, such as for science olympiad place 1st in regionals, etc.

also, it's good to be involved in clubs for more than 1 year. if you have zero clubs for the 1st three years, then all of a sudden have 10 clubs senior year, they're probably not going to look upon that very highly.

You should join clubs cause they help you. And try to go to every meeting and be active in the club so you can get some form of a leadership.

My guidance counselor told me to make sure to join clubs that will help others. Like Amnesty.

I'm planning to masters in economics or international business etc.

Schools look for well-roundedness in their future students.
If there were two students with similar academic backgrounds, but one of them shows vigorous activity in school clubs.. obviously the latter student would be chosen.

Furthermore, schools want leaders. Just because you're in some club won't really help you out in the long run, but being a leader (pres, vp, sec., etc) makes you stand out. It gives you that extra edge.

Join clubs. It'll help... tons.

They're pretty important I think. If none of the clubs at your school interest you, just participate in some sort of activity that isn't involved with your school. If you go to a church, you could volunteer there for example. Or start participating in AIDS walks or Habitat for Humanity. There are a lot of options that you can take as an alternative. If you're old enough, get a part-time job. Colleges love students who can demonstrate that they are responsible by maintaining good grades and a job on the side.

Be careful of what advice your giving. You state that clubs are important, then you say that they "won't really help you out in the long run." Let me reiterate this one more time, clubs are virtually meaningless except in special cases. These situations are leadership positions within the club where the entire student body is involved.

Also, I don't want to say that club activity never plays into the application review process, but I will say that it almost never is the dividing factor in choosing between two applicants.
