Has anyone here gotten their MBA or plan on getting one? It seems most people who go to get their MBAs are employed for a while and then apply to business school, why is that? Can you apply right after undergraduate? Is it important that you get an MBA? What an you do with it? Share please!

an MBA degree can help you get positions that you might normally not be able to land if you were fresh out of college...plus the salary difference is in favor of the MBA degree-holder. I'm not into the business school stuff so I really don't know for sure but yea more money+more job opportunities. Yes, you can apply right after your undergrad years but I guess some people are just trying to save up before they go into grad school because it is EXPENSIVE. A few years ago my friend was accepted to NYU Stern for grad school and the two years she spent there added up to well over $125,000. Hmm hopefully someone in business school can provide you with more accurate details.

^ hmm idk if that's a trend for all grad schools but NYU, although known for it's business school, is also known to have an insane tuition + really bad financial aid.

the reason why you should work 2-4 years after you graduate is because MBAs are offered at _business_ schools. You need experience before you get in, especially if you're not sure what area you want to specialize in and so you can explore that when you're working. Business schools also use your work experience to gauge your ability to be a leader and such. Also if you work you'll be able to gain the recommendations from bosses and such.

you can apply right after you graduate, but your chances are slim. most applicants are people who have work experience and are more prepared to take on the MBA program.
most business schools require a couple years of work experience unless you have an exceptional resume when you finish undergraduate studies. the reason for this can vary from the school wanting to accept people who have already established a somewhat successful career to wanting a more diverse class of students to promote higher learning to simply wanting students who know what they want and not students who sign up for an MBA thinking it'll simply earn them more money. who would want to admit a student who's still relatively clueless about his/her career?
as for what you can do with your MBA..
people often get an MBA to advance within their career field. like transitioning from a senior level engineer to the chief technology officer, or going from management to partnership, etc.
there are others who get the MBA and focus on an entirely different topic, like switch from marketing to finance.
and then there are others who just switch careers. like engineering to business.
in general, the MBA will help you find a job on the upper levels of the corporate (and sometimes even non-corporate) ladder.

They say people these days don't require a MBA, but.... from a few of my internships and jobs, I found out if you want a "secure" job that pays 120k and climbing the corporate ladder is a must, you will probably have to get one sooner or later. Most of the time the company points you into a direction they want you to go. Some even help you pay for it.
DO NOT GET AN MBA right after your bacheolors. MOST MBA PROGRAMS REQUIRE X AMOUNT OF YEARS WORKING EXPERIENCE BEFORE APPLYING. Thats all =D
