I ranked my dorm preference:
1) Terry.
2) McMahon.
3) Lander.
4) McCarty.
Hmmm ... xD ... Still debating on whether to switch Terry and McMahon.

Also, if you guys haven't submitted your housing applications yet, (and you're hoping to be in Lander) you better do it as soon as possible! My friend applied a week later then when the applications opened last year and he got stuck in triple rooms (same room as double room except they add an extra person). This should apply to all other residence halls as well.

Also, I'd say the dorm food kind of sucks (1101 especially). The HUB is pretty good (the pasta place). So if you have the money, get a lower plan and just eat out for dinner =p or something heh. The eight serves the same food every day so some people kind of get sick of eating the same thing every day heh.

I should've worn shorts too cuz I was sweating in my jeans. haha xD
Anyways, I really like UW now. I have fallen in love with the campus ... and the girls there. jkjk
Also, I don't think I want to stay in Terry and Lander next year. It's too shady and far from campus.
I'm leaning towards McMahon or McCarty. My friend showed me his dorm in Hagget and I don't it's pretty ghetto and tiny. haha

On Monday we went to Alki and currently have plans for Golden Gardens.
Does Terry/Lander seem -that- far from campus? I live at an apartment that's a 14 min. walk away and I consider myself close.

edit:
so i read the email from the president. he said that for the most part, tution increase will not affect students with financial aid... and a lot of students that do not receive financial aid will still get a major tax refund which will balance out the tuition fees. (something along those lines)

so what are figs? i've heard a little about it. i know it's like a freshman group thing, but what are the pros and cons?
& i'm kinda planning out my overall schedule during the school year...
-obviously school (full time)
-part time job (probably at starbucks, since i work there right now)
-work study (for financial thing?)
-& i really want to join lots of clubs. like some sort of community service, religious clubs?, and i realllly wanna play like club/immatural soccer.
do you think that's a busy schedule? like, up to the point where i couldn't handle everything? (school is my number one priority, so yeah.)
sorry it's a little long and random. i guess i'm just a confused senior haha -__-

figs are freshmen interest groups... basically you get grouped with a bunch of other freshmen who chooses the same fig as you...
pro - you have the same classes as other freshmen so you get to know them better etc. i think they also make you do lil group works in your fig class where you are forced to bond with your classmates. they help you adjust to college life.
con - i heard fig classes are a waste of time.. and most of the time, the classes you choose, you end up with a bunch of people you don't even hang out with outside of that quarter (i do know some who are still friends with some fig classmates tho).... they are generally a 12 credit course.. if you don't choose to take another class you might fall behind.... several of my friends who did figs ended up taking 15 credit classes for the following quarters and were still freshmen status the following year (you need 45 to become a sophomore) this probably won't affect you if you already have credits before entering college or plan to take heavier loads the following quarters
i didn't take a fig, this is what i've heard from a lot of other people though.
as for your work study... you can only do work study if you are qualified for it. they limit you to 18.5 hrs (or was it 19.5?) max per week. you generally work at school somewhere. there are a lot of work study but it's basically like a job... you should get one or the other... either a part time job or do work study. don't do both because i'm sure you'll be working almost full time otherwise.
there are a lot of clubs at the school. on the first week or so there will be a lot of advertisement for clubs. they generally will set up little booths on red square and advertise. check it out and see what clubs you would want to join.
if school is your priority, then make sure you can handle that load.. currently i work part time and go to school full time. it works out fine for me but it really depends quarter to quarter of what your workload is like.
sorry for the ramble. hope it helps..

I'm excited to meet new people and be a "college student" this September!
I sent in all of my stuff and applied for housing.
My choices were:
1. Lander
2. McMahon
3. Terry
4. Hagget
I also signed up for Advising & Orienation on July 20th & 21st.
Did anyone do the Overnight thing or just stayed in local hotels?
I'm going with my friend, so her and I were thinking about just staying
at a local hotel.
Any advice on what classes to take 1st quarter?
I already have English 131. and I'm taking English 111 at my high school this quarter.
If anyone has other advice for an upcoming freshmen like me, please share (:
Thank you! (:

Congrats on coming to UW. You'll like it.. it's really fun here.
As for first quarter classes, I would suggest taking light classes. (By that, I mean do not combine chem, physics, and math all together!) You'll find that classes at UW are a bit more challenging than high school classes and/or community colleges.. (I took IB in HS and usually got straight A's but the grades I got the first quarter were a bit shocking to me... I did ok but I expected a lot better)
Anyway, take classes that you might think are interesting. Read the course description. Or if you sort of know what you want to do maybe take a class requirement and see how you like it. I hope that helps...
