Utada Hikaru will be coming on May 15th, at 6:00 PM for a fan signing at South Center Mall.

ALSO

Epik High will have a fan signing at the Verizon store (where se7en was at) the day after their concert (May 24th)!

Sweet! I'm going to both. Just looked up info for the Verizon in-store appearance.

Seattle: Sunday, May 24, 1pm, @ Verizon Wireless, 2125 South 320th St, Federal Way

KhSA (The Cambodian student org) is putting on a show in celebration of Khmer New Year this Saturday, May 9th at the HUB East Ballroom. Why now instead of 3 weeks ago when it was officially Khmer New Year? Long story short, booking issues but this show is also KhSA's annual main event they put together.

May 9th is also the day of Relay for Life along with KSA's Made in Korea performance in the evening so no hard feelings.

But if you're free on Friday(tomorrow) from 5-10 PM, drop by the Hub East Ballroom. We could use as many volunteers as we can for setup. Expect some downtime so bring a book, laptop, music, etc.

Other than that, Uncensored @ The Lakeside Event Center Friday evening @ 10 PM.

during orientation, you only get to talk to an academic advisor. however, if you know when your orientation date is, maybe you can schedule an appointment with a department advisor after orientation is over. you'd have to check the times that orientation is over/when the department advisors are in and make sure they don't overlap. or you can find their email and send them a message.

most freshmen i know aren't taking a language at all (unless they placed into the 3rd quarter of their language or something). the only person i know who's taking 2 languages is my friend who's majoring in international relations and spanish so he's talking french and spanish at the same time. i wouldn't advise taking two languages though. you won't have enough time to take all your pre-req classes that's needed for your major. most freshmen spend their first two years taking general requirement classes (VLPA, I&S, composition, etc) to get it done and then spend their junior/senior year taking a language.

Thanks for the input! smile.gif

Hmmm ...

For me it isn't worth it because I live about 30 minutes from UW.

I just hope I don't have to wake up that early for the 2nd day of A&O.

The second day of A&O you will have to wake up early. I think it starts at 8:30 or 9:30? I forgot.. but either way it's still pretty early. That's when you get your picture taken for your Husky Card as well as registering for classes. Start looking now for what classes you would want to take, because they could fill up quick. If you want to get in a FIG, look for those too.

I personally think that FIGs do help, but it depends on what FIG you want to be in. I chose an Asian American Studies FIG and I loved all of my peers in them. We still hang out from time to time too!

UW is my #1 choice, but the rising tuition rates are ridiculous :/
For anyone who has any experience with this, how is UW when it comes to financial aid and scholarships?
This may not be the best place to ask, but I've gotta ask somewhere~

mind answering a few questions for this noob soon-to-be freshman, por favor?

is FIG's right for me? so i'm going to live at home (if that makes a difference) and I don't know anyone that is going there. & i'm also taking pre-nursing program classes (?) i think.

is taking foreign language hard? i kinda want to take korean.. but idk if it's gonna be worth to pay for it, cause i am korean, but i just want to study more of it...

what kind of work study's is there? & how many hours do you actually work a week?

kind of random, but is there a gym on campus open to all students? or just a local gym? & do you have to have a membership..?
anyone play any club or recreational sports?

what should i do in the summer to prepare? i'm thinking about just working part-time or internship...

okay, i have like millions of q's in my head. i just want to be really prepared for college (:

soralee:
doing a FIG is completely up to you. it's not a lot of additional work but i think you have to meet once a week and you have to make a portfolio. i didn't do it, but most my friends did it. they're all kind of neutral about it, some people think it's a waste of time, but i think it all depends. the fig consists of 2 classes, so if those classes also have quiz sections, you'll be in the same quiz sections as those people too. so if you don't meet new friends in your fig, it kinda sucks i guess. but sometimes, doing a fig is the best way to get into the classes you want. i was able to get around that.

now as for the gym, the IMA is open to all uw students. you just need to take your husky card with you to the ima. part of your tuition actually goes to paying for it, so might as well take advantage of it.

and to prepare for the summer: honestly, i would recommend to just relax. work and save up money if you'd like. don't take it too hard. the time after senior graduation and before college is seriously the most relaxing time ever. you won't ever feel "free" like that again. you're done with high school, so you don't have to worry about SAT's and what not, and college hasn't started so you have yet to stress about it. so just take it easy :]

Sorry Amy! Utada actually announced she won't be coming earlier in the week (not just to WA but everywhere else in the US) due to illness.

Am I the only the one that thinks UW's admission process lately has been hit or miss??

No offense to some of my high school classmates (I'm c/o 08 btw) got accepted to UW...some who took little to no AP/HONOR classes at all.
Yet they're failing their classes right now, they have no idea what to major in yet they're paying 15,000 a year including dorming. And I KNOW FOR A FACT their parents don't make enough money to support that yet they are still burdening their parents with that debt! Some of my friend's families are in debt. DEBT!!!!

Yet they look down on my for not getting accepted and that I am incompetent. O.O
I met some amazing people at BCC who probably have more than a brain than they do.

I know this doesn't speak for the 2012 UW class as a whole, but these are the people I went to high school with. They really have NO IDEA what to do with their lives. Like NO IDEA AT ALL! I honestly don't think we should be wasting time and money. Honestly why go to a University if you don't know what to do major in or whatever. Especially with the cost.
