^^^ Hmm ... I see ...

I called an adviser today, and they just said not to take math altogether .... Because the 5 in Calc AB would give me credit in 124 and 125, which essentially fulfills the math req's I need to get into the Biology major.

But I'm still not sure whether med school that require math will accept the AP scores. I'm just thinking of taking a math course later and maybe stats. And also, just keeping a 12-credit FIG for first quarter .... xD

kinda random but im planning on majoring in microbiology! haha only i got a 4 on the ap calc test ab. im thinking of either starting at 124 honors or just starting at 125.... eek. idk which!

I'm not sure about other schools but UW's Med School takes AP credits, I was looking at it last night, LINK. But it refers specifically to science credits, maybe because its minimum course requirements doesn't require math.

I'm the same as you right now, I was thinking of taking MATH126 so I'll have a complete year of calc.
And I want to take CHEM145 plus something else... is that too much for freshman yr?

My orientation isn't until the 20th but I want to have some idea first, I take too long to decide. Bums me out that BIOL180 is closed, but then again, I think I might go crazy doing bio & chem in the first yr...

So for those of you who had orientation & stayed in the dorm, I have a silly question... Do they provide sheets & blankets for you to sleep? Or do you have to bring sleeping bag? I don't want to end up sleeping on bare mattress tongue.gif

Since you said that you wanted to take Chem 145, I'm assuming you haven't had any general chem classes yet that could count as college credit. You need at least a 3.5 in CHEM 142 or have passed CHEM 152 (the second quarter of general chem) with a passing grade in order to take BIOL 180. BIOL 180 is a ridiculous class to get into no matter what. Fills up in hours, I swear.

My friend actually took CHEM 162 (last quarter of gen chem) and BIOL 180 and she did just fine. Just depends on your work and study ethics. wink.gif

I got 5 on AP Chem so it says I get credit for 142,152,162... won't that work to get into BIOL180?
Hmmm, but doesn't really matter much since the class is already full...

I just changed my schedule for the 4th time ... sleep.gif

Dropped my FIG entirely. Registered for Chem 142.

Then registered for Psych 250 - Racism and Minority Groups. The very last spot, it like opened up right when I looked at it. No idea why I signed up for it ... but it sounds interesting ... I guess ...

Then registered for Phil 267 - Introduction to Philosophy of Religion. I hate philosophy, so again, no idea why I registered for it ... But then someone I know said it was a pretty crappy and hard class. So, I'm probably going to drop it .... Iono ...

And now I'm deciding between LSJ 200 - Introduction to Law, Societies, and Justice or SOC WF 200 - Introduction to Social Welfare Practice. Leaning towards SOC WF 200 ... I have no idea why ... And I have no idea why I'm taking 200-level classes ....... ph34r.gif

Sounds like a great Pre-med plan to me! lol

----------------------------------------------------------------

Well ... Just changed my schedule again. I think this one will actually stick. Taking Chem 142, Pysch 101, and Engl 111 (Composition: Lit). *Crosses fingers* laugh.gif

----------------------------------------------------------------

Now I'm contemplating between ENGL 111 or ENGR 100. Dam ......... sleep.gif

^ I would say stick to ENGL 111. You'll need a composition class eventually and it's way better to take it freshman year especially since sophomore year gets super hard and busy if you're going the pre-med route.

Also, make sure to not switch your schedule too many times. Registration will eventually block you from changing it then you have to go talk to an advisor to get it unblocked. ph34r.gif

Haha ... I think I'm just going to stick with ENGL 111. If I put ENGR 100 in my schedule, on Wednesdays, I'd have classes and a lab from 9:30 to 4:20 ...

No, thanks. XD

hey guys i was wondering whether my scheldule is pretty manageable for first quarter freshman year. it was hard trying to find the third class to fit with chem and psyc so i ended up with art history. what do u do in art history? is it hard?
im taking

chemistry 120
psych 101
art history ??

i am interesting in going into nursing however i also like pharmacy. would it be better to take chem 142 or chem 120? if i decide to take chem 142 for pharmacy and want to switch to nursing would the credits be transfered for nursing or does it have to be the 120 series?

oh yeah what are your opinion on figs?

^i'm deciding whether i should join a fig or not, but it seems like the fixed classes aren't working for me. like, in certain fig groups, i want one class, but i don't want (or need) the other class. hmm, idk. it's hard.

i'm interested in going into nursing too! but i also like physical therapy.. any class suggestions/recommendations?
oh yeah, and if i am in like pre-nursing, would it be better to take (for math) calc or stats? cause i read somewhere that you should take stats in order to go into nursing, but i always thought calc was more important. help?

& is it hard getting jobs on campus? i'm thinking about applying at the IMA say, at the end of July (after a&o and after i quit my other job, yee).

I personally would not recommend a fig. I didn't do a fig my freshmen year because I heard it was pretty useless. I know it advertises that it will help you make friend etc etc. But I hear from a lot of people that they don't normally talk to the people from their fig after the first quarter (it's really hit and miss if you'll end up being friends or not). Aside from that, they have useless fig projects and what not you have to do for it. I believe you have to create an online portfolio for the class.

Anyway, if you do plan on taking the fig which are generally 12 credits, I'd take another class so I don't fall behind later on (unless you already have credits from high school... then you don't have to worry)

---

As for your requirements for your classes I would use this handy tool called "Degree Process (DARS)" found on your MyUW mainpage. Put in your desired major/minor and it'd tell you the list of requirements for it and what you have already done for it. It's a handy tool so all freshmen/those who don't know about it should check it out. smile.gif

any sociology, neurobiology, or american ethnic studies majors up in this joint?! haha jk, but not really. are there any? haha smile.gif

and soralee,

DO NOT TAKE A FIG! DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME! the fig class is generally taught by junior or seniors that have NO IDEA what they're talking about and you get nothing out of it all. sure, it's easy credits, but tuition is expensive and it's on the steady rise, so why waste your time? also, they're almost all like 12 or 15 credits. don't waste your time!

Hmm ... Who's taken Psychology 101?

I'm still deciding over McDermott or Passer.

Right now, I'm in McDermott's class cause one of my friends said she's the better one. But after reading ratemyprofessor.com, I'm leaning towards Passer now. Hmmm .... >.<

i've taken it with a different professor, but it's highly reading-intensive. so the way i chose, was look under the textbook requirements and chose the one that required me to buy a textbook, or if they both require books, i choose the one that requires the least amount. professors that dont' require textbooks usually have TONS AND TONS AND TONS of 30 paged articles for you to read every day on the ERES.

or if you wanna save money on books, choose the one that requires no book!

i took passer last year. He is a good teacher. Long winded. His exam are hard, but he has volunteer you can do for extra credit. I remember the hw was some online thing, seeing if you are paying attention in class. My friends took McDermot. they said "i think it was a she" it was was easy for them. they had quite a few of hw but there test is easier then passer. That all i can give you. Oh and try to sit from middle or close to front. If you sit in the back..you tend you doze off and not pay attention. Hope that help.

I hope i'm not too random but...
how does a BA in economics differs from a BSc in economics? I'm majoring in economics but am undecided between a BA and a BSc. Any opinions?

by the way, has anyone taken classes under prof. john hamm?

^^^

Well, you essentially pay the same price from 12 credits to 18 credits.

I'm only taking a FIG this year because I wanted to get over with my Composition requirement.

In all honesty, I really really really don't want to spend that extra hour doing weird projects. sleep.gif
