alright.. (sorry last minute question).
i don't know if this has been answered yet, but i'm kind of confused on the undergraduate placement exams. so i went online to THIS WEBSITE. are the times to take the test only on those time on the specific days? for example, if i want to take a math placement test on wednesday (is it really required?), does it have to be at 8am?
& is the exam sort of like a SAT exam environment?
btw, my orientation is this thursday-friday. you have to take the exam before your orientation, right? ph34r.gif

You can take it on the first day of your orientation. You have to be there at like 9:30 if you're taking two tests and 11:00 if you're taking just one test. You'll have enough time to get to Kane by 12:45. biggrin.gif

And you only need the placement if you're going to register for a Math 124 or above class. If you got a 3 in AP Calc AB, you're already placed in 124. 4 = 125. 5 = 126.

I took it to register for 124. Then I got my AP scores and found out I got a 5, so I dropped it. Hahaha xD

hmm.. so i can take the placement test the day before my orientation, right? just checking
& if i want to take chem 120. do i have to take a placement test for that as well?

Nope. Chem 142 doesn't require a placement test. Some sections recomment placement into math 120 or math 124 though.

Hmmm ... went to UW today to test out the buses. I think I have it figured it out .... I hope .... lol

Some pictures I took randomly ... Didn't touch up anything. Too lazy and tired. xD

Can YOU guess all the places/things? tongue.gif

ooh and... if anyone is selling their Chemical Principles book 6th edition by Zumdahl for chem 142 for under 100 bucks PM ME! =]

i have the 5th edition of Chemical Principles if you want. i used it for the entire chem series and did just fine. the only different between the 5th and 6th edition is a different book cover, new page templates, page numbers are a bit off, and the word problems in the back of the chapters are in different orders. if you can overlook all that, then there's no reason to shell out extra money for basically the same book.

but if you really would like the 6th edition, two of my friends own it and i can see if they would want to sell it. smile.gif let me know!

P.S. Don't even pay for books for those classes.

You know you can download them online for free. If you need Math 124-126 book, I have it tongue.gif

Wear comfortable shoes. You'll walk a lot.

It'll be hot so wear something thin.

Bring a backpack if you want. You'll receive a folder, pencil, papers, and a book. Not backpack worthy, but I didn't like carrying it. Haha ... And you won't need it the second day.

Don't be afraid to talk to people. I'm normally a shy person but I met hella people during my orientation. Even met my roommate/clustermate for this year.

Do something epic for your Husky card picture. tongue.gif ... jkjk, the pic will last you through all your years of college apparently .... xD

haha oh i think i will strike a pose for my husky card. (:

how early were you guys there at?
& i'm driving there from home, so i was thinking about parking at the E1 lot (or the lot north of husky stadium). it's like 7 bucks there i think. does that sound okay or does anyone have any cheaper locations near campus?

I parked at E1. That's the cheapest place I know of. $6/7. There's parking right below Kane, but it's like ... 14 dollars I think. So, if you don't want to walk like 5-10 minutes worth of steps and hills, gotta cough up 7 more dollars. lol

And if you're taking placement, get to Smitz Hall by 9:30 (For 2 tests) or 11:00 (For 1 test). And Kane Hall by 12:45 for orientation. A line should start forming around that time.

Second day, you have to be there at like 8:15. I think at Mary Gates Hall.

Maybe I should be an OL next year. xD

you don't need to bring the textbook to lecture; i didn't even bring it to quiz section. all the homework should be done online on WebAssign so there's not really any homework from the book. it's good to do the problems anyways to get the concept down. i can ask my friends how much they'd be willing to sell their 6th ed. book if you're still interested smile.gif

strike a pose! my picture on my ID card makes me look like an Oompa Loompa dry.gif

E1 is perfectly fine, albeit a pretty long distance walk to Kane (half uphill). if anything, try to find free parking near Greek Row (near NE 47th St. & 16-19 Ave. NE) it's also a kinda far walk but at least it's not uphill laugh.gif college has made me lazy

No one brings their books to class, just notebook to write down notes.

Honors math ( 134 ) uses a different book; the title should be like -> Calculus: One & Several Variables. That's the one I used (but older edition of course). Math 124 uses the Transcedental book by Stewart (6e). Both are downloadable ohmy.gif!

You don't do problems out of the book for Chem 142 - 162 (it'd be ridiculous for a prof./ta's to grade 500-600+ hw assignments by hand lol + a ridiculous amount of cheating). It's all done online using web-assign, so you login and do problems online. You enter solutions like -> CF3CO2H, or if it's dealing with numbers like 4.22E-3. So no problems out of the book, 5th edition is fine. Difference between editions is just HW problems. Same goes for Physics, all HW is done online. The problems are different from the book, and from person to person (since it's online) to detour cheating lol.

If you have an idea of what you want your major to be, I'd suggest staying away from MGH and going to a departmental advisor to setup a schedule for the next four years.

Buying books in general it's good to use Facebook, Half.com and Amazon.com. Definitely best places, don't buy books from the bookstore.

Has anyone taken a Comparative History of Ideas class? I signed up for CHID 110 The Question of Human Nature because I needed a 3rd class, don't really know what to expect.
